Perhaps we could get extreme in elder abuse, in extreme? We could post about all those old ladies hitting the accelerator rather than the brake and driving into shops etc?

I've seen old women driving, well not driving per se, but parked and it takes them 10 minutes to exit the vehicle. No I don't help them, I've been tempted but if you can drive, you can get out and walk. A danger to society.

We have few like that and you can't hear them sneaking up on you. Perhaps we should make it mandatory they stick something like the pegs and cardboard/plastic we did as kids on our stingray's spokes.

for whats its worth I agree with you- important to stay active- I mean who hasnt fantasised about some moped action- a spin around town in the latest model already but must resist the allure of that passion wagon lol

There are some that I know can walk but they don't- and i feel like having a chat with them about that - }anyway they have made their decision- and only they know why could be painful to walk { knees etc}

sure is.... one of the reasons  I havent got NETFLIX yet   I dont need excuses to sit down.....and I would sit there for hours.. mopeds are only meant for the disabled anyway...... I drive everywhere [car]because I can no longer walk any distance   leaking heart gives me breathing grief.....it isnt because I dont want to or cant be bothered.......if only I could breath... it is what it is..... so be fair and kind to those who ride these things.... they are a blessing in disguise to remaining independent

When I was a young man my most beloved Aunt, one of the few adults to show me real joyful love as a child, who I adored, developed emphysema, and it was very hard for her. She had such a poo life, alcoholic turd of a husband, mean selfish arsehole children of her own, who resented and hated her, for not removing them all, without knowing how hard it was for a catholic girl to walk out on a husband in those days.
He was a respectable man, an esteemed man in some circles, literary, highly educated, quite the raconteur, with a great career, and good income.

He was also a bully, and mean, and nasty, and violent.
She was trapped, maybe it was the nerves that drove her to smoke 60 cigs a day, whatever, it killed her lungs.
It pained me to see her struggle for breath in her latter years, smoking until her dying day.
That was a thing I admired deeply, she was never a quitter.


I certainly hope you are in much better health than she was Cods.
Funny you have a problem with your heart, it has always seemed to be the strongest part of you, from my perspective. Take care.

oh so sad for you.. I watched my husband die with lung cancer through smoking  I always do my best to get any member to stop....seeing someone go through that  gives you a different perspective on breathing my dear one gasped for breath he was helped with the pain but nothing for the breathing....it bring tears to my eyes even now....I guess you are the same when you think of what your loved one went through 

she was brave for you, you were probably the light of her life as well....

funny thing with me is  when we talk about fear  my one fear is being buried alive...even now I cant breath thinking about it......I did think it was the lungs at first   but no its something they cant fix  so I am told...trust me!... so I do things like use a trolly at the shops  that really helps...I can get around leaning on something..

I get frustrated more than anything.....

yes I am a tough old biddy   I can hold my own with most... not all of course....but most....and whilst I am sitting at the computer  I dont run out of puff... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yup, use it or lose it is just so true. My dad had a double hip op a month ago and they were nagging him to walk the next day.

I very sadly recently discovered I can only do 2 lousy chin-ups!!!

I'm on a mission to get back to 10 and will do my best to stay there.

you poor dad a double hip omg.....I only had one done  it was cruel...and yest they have to get you moving asap...I dont know if he had this fun experience...but you dont wear any undies...because getting to the bathroom    always on the other side of the ward....takes longer than usual... and yes you have to use the bathroom....oh its bloody awful...be kind to him gordy   

he has physio to go through as well......

I'm thinking getting a double would be better than x2 separately.

Anyway, better the hip than knees. Hips have a very high success rate. Knees not so much.

It's 6 weeks actually and he's doing 30 minute gentle walks. Not bad!

I got in, only after an exhaustive search tho. I had the frypan secreted away in a false compartment in the car. I reckon it's still there, under the skeletal remains of a wombat.
