I updated to the latest Skype for windows desktop - it's terrible.

I've lost all the task bar at the top.
Most of the functionality is gone.
I can't even see how many Skype credits I have.
I can't switch to being away - the yellow symbol.
I can't even see what version of Skype this one is!

I tried everything to revert back to the older version but it won't do that.
I had an older version in downloads but it just went on & on for 20 minutes & wouldn't install.
I went to their website to download the older version & all it did
was re-install this latest crap version.

Anyone who reads this is lucky -
don't install the latest version - whatever you do -
you will really regret it.

You will also probably have to turn off "Automatic Update".

By the way - I found the name of the latest rubbish version -
it's Skype 8.20.09

Doesn't work - I tried that -
Microsoft gives only a link to the latest rubbish version.

Make sure you uninstall the latest rubbish version  8.20.09 first.
Anyway it's all working now -
the beautiful old version with all the features -
I can see my Skype credits too!

I'm so glad that I was able to find & load the older version.

Guess what? -
even the old version is now giving me the message below.
For some reason they don't want anyone to use the old software
which was 10 times better with far more functionality.

Microsoft keeps getting worse & worse.

If you had the old version you'd keep getting warnings
to update & also the latest warning as I've shown.

I was forced to upgrade to the latest version today:
8.34.0.78

It's terrible - I can't change my status
