I don't think it's that petty but people are forgetting, or choosing to ignore that North Korea have been inviting each US President since Carter to meet with their leader and they've all refused.  After they'd made a deal with him for aid and a softer approach and renegged on freezing their nuclear research no other President has accepted the offer.

This deal is being painted by Trump supporters as a positive, which I sincerely hope it is, but so far rather than it being about genuine disarmament, it looks like a power play by North Korea to show to their people and the world that now they have Nukes they're on the same level as the US and being taken seriously with this agreement to meet.

Given that Trump is all about the deal, it was a very easy manipulation to make.

And let's not forget that the Trump administration doesn't have any ambassador to even South Korea at the moment let alone the North.  Their diplomacy skills in their area are severely lacking.

I want this to go well, for the security of the region, this needs to go well, but it looks like Trump may be getting played by Kim Jong Un.

Trump would be the first sitting American President to engage North Korean leadership since the armistice that paused the Korean War in 1953. Technically speaking, the United States and North Korea are still at war, since no formal peace treaty was ever signed to officially end the conflict.

There are mutual benefits to be seen from a NoKo/US rapprochement.
1. a reduction in nuclear tension of course
2. a likely improvement in north/south relations
3. something of a buffer state "friend" viv a vis China
4. possibly some trade benefits for NoKo in exchange for a reset of the bellicosity meter
5. political gains for both KJU and Trump

In the post-communist world, the collective power in NoKo (there must be one even if it's only the military) will know they need new friends and some means of developing their economy, starting with being able to reduce military spending.

He even used the word bloodbath. He referenced Armageddon. What happened, Bogie? He only said that a few weeks ago. Why the change of heart?

It's easier to set the stage for Trump not getting the outcomes he wants, as the fault of the "loony left".

It's the same thing that's happening to anyone who looks even remotely like they're going to face Trump in 2020, the Trump supporters go on the attack.  They're afraid that Trump will fail.  They talk about letting the best man win, and that man will be Trump, then they start spreading fake news that the candidate, or even public figure who has said they won't run but people want them to, has already lost to Trump, or they're Liars and crooks etc.  You know, all the things that Trump is guilty of but it's ok when he does it, but I digress.

Right now, everyone knows that North Korea cannot be trusted.  They've back tracked on nearly every promise and agreement they've made with the outside world for decades, generations of leaders have done it. 

Everyone knows that while Trump talks a big game about the art of the deal and his negotiation skills, since entering politics and no longer being able to rely on a department of lawyers to bully his opposition into doing what he wants, his deals haven't come close to living up to the hype.

Everyone knows that this is likely a push by North Korea to show their people that now they have Nuclear weapons the rest of the world is taking notice and they're being invited to the big boys table with Trump accepting the meetings.

Everyone knows for 30 years North Korea have been trying to get this meeting, any meeting, with world leaders but they've all refused.  For America, this is largely to do with the fact that they're still technically at war with North Korea.

And Everyone knows that all it would have taken to get Trump to ignore the above is to play to his ego and manipulate him by telling him he'd be the first US President to meet with the North Korean leadership in a very very long time and that Obama wouldn't even do it.  Trump would jump at the chance to boast about being the first.

So Trump's supporters, the ones who can see past his coin pouch while they fellate him, know all of this and they're scared that Trump won't get the outcome he wants.  Of course no matter what happens Trump will paint it as a success, but you can tell by the way his supporters are attacking the left, or bringing up Clinton (H) or even Obama, they're petrified.

And the thing about "the looney left" is that this more, a diplomatic one, is right out of their play book.  Yes they show concern as to who it is that is going to attempt this diplomacy (Trump's record is terrible), but this is the closest thing we're going to get to a peaceful solution.

Trying to blame them or turn this around onto them just isn't going to work.

To the Trump supporters, have you really forgotten the recent history with North Korea?  In the waning months of Clinton's presidency, he seriously considered travelling to Pyongyang to put the finishing touches on a deal to limit North Korea's missile programs. It didn't work out.  They back tracked on their early commitments doing the exact opposite and the trip never happened.

Clinton of course did eventually visit North Korea in 2009, though it was to win the release of two journalists being held hostage by the regime. Footage from that trip, interestingly enough, was re-purposed for the final instalment of a curious series of propaganda films made by North Korea under the title "The Country I Saw."

According to the film's narrative, Clinton travelled to North Korea because the U.S. respected North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile programs. Produced at the end of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il’s life, "The Country I Saw" was an early indication of how North Korean propaganda would embrace the bomb as a symbol of power and legitimacy.

A visit between the two countries' heads of state has been a North Korean goal for decades. It would be the ultimate symbol of recognition and, crucially for North Korea, legitimacy. This is why no former leaders have been willing to feed into this, or be duped by them.

The problem is that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has said nothing of the prospect of denuclearisation.  If anyone thinks this is what the meeting will be about, they're dreaming. 

Some of Trump's supporters have realised this, so they're trying to set the stage to blame others when this doesn't work out.

For the record, as much as it would pain me to congratulate him, I hope this works and he is able to get us to a peaceful solution with them.  He might just be the right fool for the job.
