Title: Climate change:Beech Trees booming in forests Post by Unforgiven on Feb 27th, 2018 at 1:30am
Beech trees are starting to dominate and displace more valuable species of tree.
Another brick in the wall of evidence of climate change. http://www.techtimes.com/articles/221889/20180226/beech-trees-are-booming-in-forests-because-of-climate-change.htm Quote:

I had a beech tree emerge suddenly in my native garden a few years ago. I didn't know what it was, but when I saw how prolifically it began to grow - I removed it instinctively. It wasn't that easy. You can chop them down, but they grow back up again quickly if you don't remove the root. When they're young - they look attractive, so they have probably been generally overlooked. Now they're out of control. |

Used to be a stand of Beech trees where I grew up.

Are these beech trees there because of clear felling of the original trees or climate change?
In the Adirondacks - "Those birches sprouted from the ashes of early 20th-century fires that razed vast sections of the forest. Before, few birch saplings could fight their way up through the dense canopy. The fires opened windows of opportunity, and they thrived." http://www.esf.edu/communications/news/2002/07.21.adironforests.pdf So beech are an invasive species, they seem to need cleared forest to thrive. But put climate change on a paper and it is bound to be accepted. |

There is much evidence for both sides of the argument. 309 pages of global cooling evidence here: http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1464603949/0#0 That's longer than most books. |
