some Global Warming..

HOTTEST YEAR EVA..  :D

Hobart weather: Summer snow shocks Tassie

JUST two days after the state sweltered through blistering heat, snow has been falling on Tasmania’s higher peaks.

The Great Lake Hotel has posted photos of snow falling at the Central Highlands pub this morning and the Bureau of Meteorology has reported snow above 900m.

Parts of the state suffered through temperatures as high as 40C just two days ago but the weather has turned suddenly.

The BOM has issued a bushwalkers alert saying snow as low as 900m is possible during this morning.

Snow at Great Lake Hotel on Tasmania's Central Plateau.

These hazardous conditions are expected to occur in parts of the Central Plateau forecast district, the warning says.

Hobart can expect 17C today with showers clearing but at it was just 8.4C at 5.30am with an apparent temperature of 5.3C. On Mt Wellington/kunanyi it was -0.9C at 7am with an apparent temperature of -12C. There was a dusting of snow on the mountain visible from the city.

One day it's a pizza oven - the next day it's snowing.

What weird weather.

Local weather over 30 years (or longer) is local climate. Global weather over 30 years (or longer) is global climate.

When it is hot the alarmists say "look at climate change is doing", when it is cold it is merely weather.

It's not unusual for Tassie to get snow in summer, the Victorian high country also gets a dusting of snow at least once most summers.

It's really not that strange

Actually it is normal to get snow in summer.

"We do typically see one or two of these events each summer ... so it's unusual, but certainly not incredibly unusual," Mr Bolden said.

Wow, so it typically happens one or twice every summer in Tasmania.
Yet Mechanic thinks it's important enough to start a new thread

The Mechanic often struggles to differentiate between certain terms.

6. Where can I find snow in Tasmania?

The central highlands and the more mountainous areas often get snowfalls in the winter months. However, snow rarely settles at sea level.

Mount Wellington in Hobart has sporadic snow in the colder months (although it's even been known to have snow in December), and you can drive up the mountain to meet it.

so if our climate is getting warmer like the "loons" say then why are we still getting snow in the summer months?

a rare event getting summer snow in Tasmania but its been getting more regular over the past few years.. even down to sea level...

people like al gore and Flannery said that our children wont even get to see snow and wont know what it is...

Again you are confusing global climate with local weather events.

There is no evidence to suggest that summer snow is getting more frequent and there is no evidence that it has occurred down to sea level. The latest event involved snow above 900m altitude.

You are talking garbage as usual Mechanic

I recall one time when staying in Hobart for a couple of days that I wanted to take the Mrs up to the top of Mt Wellington...

but the first day was to wet and low clouds...

the next day was better but still low cloud... I decided to go for a drive up there anyways... all the way up from around half way up we were fogged in by the clouds..

and then as we drove around the last corner we popped up out above the clouds like you would an an aeroplane...

it was amazing..  :)

Snow drifts often last well into the summer in the high country. It is a common occurrence. And once again, local weather is different to global climate

And local climate is different to global climate. ;)

and remember this?

"According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become "a very rare and exciting event". "Children just aren't going to know what snow is," he said."

You mean you think a climate scientist's views are peer-reviewed? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
But from a different source -

"1.) Scientists predicted in 2000 that kids would grow up without snow. It was 14 years ago now when UK climate scientists argued that global warming would make snowfall a “a very rare and exciting event”.

“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” Dr. David Viner, a scientist with the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia, told the UK Independent in 2000."
