The findings haven’t been peer reviewed yet, but he plans to present them at a science conference later this year. “In our paper we said that might happen in two to three decades,” Zwally says. “Well, this is an unpublished result, but now we’re very close to the zero line.”

It was thought that the tipping point for Antarctica was a couple of decades away. Could be here now.

The West Antarctic Ice Sheet is where the rift is. The rift is over the ocean; so it floats. Any melting of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is unlikely to add to sea level rise. It would depend on what happens to the glaciers behind the ice sheet.

You will get some nice iceberg calving though.
