Title: Humans need not apply Post by bogarde73 on Apr 28th, 2017 at 12:10pm
See Wikipedia or YouTube.
Estimated 45% of employment can be replaced by bots. Examples: Medical diagnosis & even surgery Legal work - researching thousands of precedents in nano-seconds, goodbye articled clerks, churning out contract documents etc Public servants - Wow! Here's a saving. Not much a bot can't do in the public service except stand out the front & have a smoke Don't mention process work - I mentioned it once but I got away with it. Journalism, teaching - why not Interesting times ahead |

Good post, Bogey. You've explained why Amerika will never get its manufacturing jobs from the 60s back.
Mr Trump will have to find another way to make Amerika great again, no? My money's on a corporate oligarchy, but that's just me. |

Oh, well, then - all that needs to be done is to work out some way of spreading the benefits of technology around to all so all can enjoy them...... consider it a form of compensation to the unemployed for there being no jobs, that the big corporations who use technology instead of humans pay a massive levy into the common pot.
To do otherwise is to risk revolt..... but stoopid is as stoopid does.... |

Guide your kids towards technology & robotics as a career if they are suited.
Other option is personal & therapeutic services. Use your imagination for that one. |

Indeed. We are, after all, a service economy now. |

Wasn't that always the point of automation, to free humans from drudgery? At least that was the way it was sold. Free at last! Free at last! Free to watch videos and order pizza.
Were the Luddites correct after all? |

I was actually talking about the implications robots will have on employment at dinner time with 1st born the other day.
She suggested a good job would be fixing the robots that fix broken robots. I also told her Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, another year and I can watch T1 with her :) |

Exactly. And in response, we turned the human service jobs into a production line. Risk management, WHS, process after process, procedure after procedure. We decided that through uniformity, we have safety. Cover your arse. If everyone does it like this, there won't be any fallout. The flow-chart became king. After a few years in the public service, I think I'd be ready for a job on the production line. We will make Australia great again, no? |

Karnal, have a council of Imams discussed Islam and artificial intelligence? If an AI is considered female, will it have equal rights of a male AI? What about AI sex robots, will they have to wear a burka? |

Hasn't this always been happening? Jobs are just created in other areas. Automation has been replacing humans ever since the industrial revolution. When I was growing up in the 80s it was automatic teller machines and the loss of bag packers in supermarkets that has the harbinger of doom. The economy is an elastic, evolving beast which can handle these sorts of changes. |

As more people go hungry expect more crime, might get to the stage you'll be too scared to go shopping.

Another menial job gone. This will probably increase employment in bricklaying.

Yes - your daughters could escort visiting dignitaries around town and your sons could keep the Greek community happy..... any excess children could be sold off into sex slavery for the Arabs or whatever.... |

Plenty of people with spare without work time now - look to the future!! There's a Brave New World in building bridges for people to sleep under and in making and selling tents and swags..... billies and stuff to put on a backpack.... big hat and a good pair of boots and willingness to walk from town to town seeking a day's work.....
The answer is to tax the corporations sufficiently to pay everyone a living wage indexed, for life, regardless of whether or not they work instead of the machines. Raise the dole now to AWE and top up low income earners from the community pot into which the Big Boys toss handfuls of dollars daily.... it's either that or death on the scaffold or Hunger Games.... pity the author didn't quite catch the full import of social mismanagement there...... Bet they'll love that idea..... you earn mega! You pay mega!! Sorry 'bout that.... |
