Title: Poll on AGW Post by Jovial Monk on Mar 31st, 2017 at 10:47am
We have a couple not very bright members saying we are in a Little Ice Age because, uh, sunspots. This is despite the sun being quiescent and the globe still heating up.
We have plain old deniers like Lees and Greg. We have those who read the science and can see AGW in action. Doubtless other views. So, I will set up a poll, as fair as I can make it, no meaningless choices etc. Please vote and discuss why you voted as you did. |

Title: Re: Poll on AGW Post by Jovial Monk on Mar 31st, 2017 at 10:54am
So, a bit of a spectrum of opinion.
Try and justify your vote, that will be more interesting than your vote. You have five minutes to change your vote. |

Title: Re: Poll on AGW Post by Jovial Monk on Mar 31st, 2017 at 11:00am
I voted for “AGW is happening as scientists say” of course. Scientist have shown the mechanism whereby greenhouse gases block some IR leaving the surface and heading for space, warming the globe and have recorded the temperature increases and changes to patterns of precipitation and the lengthening of the bushfire season here.

your poll sucks..
we are not in a little ice age... we are entering one... but basically... historically... our climate is as was 100 years ago... |

Your videos are worthless crap.
Not changing it, in/entering a little ice age now is preposterous, you believe that silly rubbish vote for the ice age option. |

Title: Re: Poll on AGW Post by Raven on Mar 31st, 2017 at 12:00pm
Some argue that we are still in the ice age that began 2.6 million years ago, due to the ice present in Greenland and the Arctic and Antarctic ice shelf.

Parts of the world that get 6 months of no sun you expect to be cold (tho warming up) so I don’t think much of that argument.

We're in an interglacial period. It's been going for 12,000 years & usually they go for only 10,000 years. So - we will head back into a full ice age any time now. In the meantime we have a mini ice age to deal with. |

Title: Re: Poll on AGW Post by Frank on Mar 31st, 2017 at 10:19pm
AGW is a pathetic psychosis by progressives who will never ever credit humanity for anything positive but blow everything out of proportion when it comes to their hateful regard for humanity.
In any case, humans, being a species of animal, are part of the biosystem, like bees, ants, algae, fir trees and all the other living things. Nothing humans do is 'unnatural'. The progs have a problem with humans who do not think like them. That is the massive chip on their shoulders. The AGW lunacy is about an ideological assault on all who do not accept the ascendency of the progs. And they are livid about any opposition. Like the gays are about opposition to their treatment as if they were normal married couples. |

It is not possible to reason with people who say there has been no effect from the amount of crap pumped into the sky over last 200 years.
And what's up with all these unnecessary imports that require shipping to pollute the sky? Heinz Ketchup from the Netherlands? Vegetables from South America? And I don't want out of season fruit that has to be trucked across the country. |

Exactly right. The Earth is clearly warming. The worlds receding glaciers are irrefutable evidence of that. The only question is whether it is due to humans or due to natural variation. The sun is stable, our orbit is stable and there are no other natural reasons evident for the warming. However we do have 7 billion humans pumping CO2 which is a known greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. From a scientific point of view it is an open and shut case |

There is no way that the Earth will have a carrying capacity of 7 billion people if a real ice Age starts again. One of my videos was from scientists in the Antarctic - they have proof that a previous full Ice Age started in a matter of only 3 years. Such an Ice Age would be catastrophic for mankind. Almost the whole world's population would be wiped out. Given that we are already 12,000 years into an interglacial warm period & that such periods last normally 10,000 years - we are well overdue for a full Ice Age. I just hope I die before it happens. It may not happen tomorrow or in the next 100 years or 500 years - but it will happen. |

Interesting poll results.
One brave charlie reckons we are in a Little Ice Age. An oil seed salesman told him so, apparently. One not very bright soul reckons the climate is the same as in 1900. That is clearly not true, it has warmed 1°C which has caused extreme weather, longer bushfire season etc. The bulk say AGW is happening pretty much as scientists say. Sensible. One thinks AGW is worse than scientists say. OK, dunno what brought about that decision. One says the world is heating but its not AGW. Like to know what the reason for the heating is then. Lees tries to obfuscate AGW facts and derail discussion on it. To no avail, most take the sensible decision that it is warming and it is due to GHGs that we emit. We have raised CO2 from 280ppm to 405ppm, a 40% increase. It takes real lack of intelligence to think all that carbon pollution does not change anything! It is idiotic to talk of Ice Age! |

At year 18,000 and counting our current interglacial vacation from the Ice Age is much nearer its end than its beginning." http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/ice_ages.html The figures are not exact. "Who could possibly have been measuring Global Mean Temperature (GMT) so accurately (±0.14°C) in 1880?"
"As one would expect, reliable data sets from the late 19th are sparse. "How then to calculate GMT from such sparse data, which happens to be concentrated in North America and Europe? Well the solution is not to calculate GMT from contemporary 1880 data but to reconstruct GMT by identifying correlations among modern geographic temperature data distributions and then projecting these same correlations backward onto the support of the relatively sparse empirical data available in earlier times." "Thus, "climate change" alarmism is based on two mathematical models: 1) a statistical model that "reconstructs" historical data using modern correlations projected backward for 100 years onto the thin support of sparse empirical data sets available then; and 2) a "climate model" that uses this very same reconstructed historical data as key input data to project climate forward for the next 100 years." http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/09/one_more_reason_to_distrust_gl.html#ixzz4eNhDfrpi So that "data" from 1880 isn't data but a fabrication. |

You have never, ever posted “evidence” in the ridiculous LIA thread. Stupid, lying videos yes, evidence no.
If “scientists in the Antarctic” reckon a full blown Ice Age can be here in three years there would be papers you can find (or find the abstracts anyway.) So, there you go, Sir Booby the Louse, go find some papers/abstracts showing that Ice Ages can arise in 3 years. Might also see what 40% more CO2 in the atmosphere than for several million years would do to an Ice Age. Away you go. |
