President Donald Trump has lashed out at the US intelligence community and media after new reports of contacts between members of his team and Russia.

Mr Trump accused the National Security Agency (NSA) and FBI of giving out information illegally.

Some US media say top Trump aides were in constant communication with Russian officials in the election campaign.

Intelligence officials previously said they believed Russia tried to influence the vote in favour of Mr Trump.

Moscow has dismissed the claim, describing it as based on unsubstantiated facts.

The allegations look set to reignite tensions between the president and his own intelligence services, which flared during the 2016 election campaign, says BBC Washington correspondent Gary O'Donoghue.

They come a day after National Security Adviser Michael Flynn resigned amid a row over reports he discussed US sanctions with Russia before Mr Trump took office.

Leading Republicans have joined calls for a wide investigation into Mr Flynn's links with Russia.

Mr Trump appeared to attack the NSA and the FBI for what he described as leaks to the media about the contacts.

"Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?)," he tweeted.

This is the President of America accusing the FBI and NSA of deliberately undermining America.

How on Earth can his supporters accept this?

Yes ok, you've hitched your wagon to Trump, he won and well done but surely at the very least his actions raise an eyebrow.

He is essentially calling the FBI and NSA traitors by accusing them of leaking intelligence.

This is another angle to undermine him - constant leaks, then if he says anything about it, the narrative will be "durrrh but u wuz fine wiv wikileaks leaking poo about the DNC"

Of course the nice person never-trumpers are well conditioned to dismiss anything he says, even things like this that are obvious.

He should "declassify" some documents that show exactly what sort of monster he has to tackle.  They want to leak?  The US government has got a whoooole lot more secrets than Trump does.

Let's face it, much of the unthinkable is happening right before our eyes, but impeachment? I doubt it.

I've watched 2 ........ Very little of Nixon & all of Clinton ....... Nixon saw the handwriting on the wall, & decided to cut bait rather than assume the shame.....

Not at all. All Trump has to do is promise them lots of money for their electorates. There's only a few who'd vote on principle.

I also doubt any actual crimes by Trump will be uncovered. He'll have fall-guys all over the place. He's already used Flynn as one.

Peter Reith (after the 'children overboard' incident had been erroneously reported to Canberra and the media (and in less than 12 hours retracted) claimed he had pictures taken of the incident (they were taken after the boat had sunk) which 'proved' the original story was true... Fact is, by then cabinet was aware the original story was incorrect (or highly likely incorrect) and had been retracted.

Over a week later, Howard is still claiming children were thrown overboard...

There was evidence given to show that Howard had been told it was untrue within 12 hours of him originally making the claim. The we will decides speech was about a week later and Howard continued to support the claim up till it was exposed as untrue about 2 months after the election.

The film of Howard being passed the cropped photos by his chief of office and being whispered what it meant just before he made the original claim was shown in the news clips. A suitable time after the election Howards chief stood down from his position. He is now a senator.

The Liberal Party then won this election on the slimmest of margins.

This is indeed the sort of news that should be reported by the media. The fact that you're still telling Howard's lie highlights one of two things:

1. The truth still hasn't gotten through.

2. You're lying.

Either way, this suggests that, yes, the truth still needs repeating by the media you so despise.

The SIAV4 was intercepted on the 6th of October and sunk on the 7th. your premise as usual speculatively made up and incorrect. The boat was under Australian control and sunk because of the strain of towing.
