I dont think I am up for making the cake.. am thinking about it..

but I know I am not decorating it...

has anyone ever made one...that has to be special.

its due in May.

my granddaughter had an 18th recently think the cake may have come from the Cheesecake place...

it wasnt good  all thick paste like cream.. ugh!

There's an excellent place in Sydney for cakes but that's too far.

How far are you from Jindabyne?   There's a good one there too.

Failing that you can get cake tins in the shape of numbers.   The 5 and the 0 will be the statement and you won't have to get all tizzy.

You can also get bags of soft writing icing at the supermarket and you would have a bit of time to practice lol

well I have googled it of course and there are heaps of choices... I rather liked the Fabulous 50 idea..

I did a cake course last year BO it was a CHristmas cake..though.. and tell you what its hard work...you need to know all the little tricks that are used a lot of skills involved.....I might have a go at making  the cake or cakes...... I made a nice choc cake for grandson last week  it only took two goes to get it right..lol..and I have a nice recipe for a citrus one ...but of course the recipe wouldnt be big enough...I will give it some thought....these cakes can cost heaps cant they?.....

I made a Winnie the Pooh cake for my son once.  I cut the cake into different sized pieces and shapes and put it together.  Then I made an arm chair and a small table and covered it with fondant.  I made Pooh out of icing and a jar of honey and painted the chair and table cloth in a chintz design, using food colouring,  and had Pooh sticking his fingers in the jar and dripping honey from his fingers to his face.

OMG never again!!!!

I would post up a pic but can't take me out of the pic and that might send some into a frenzy lol

I can't make him put up non existent PMs.  Report him to a GMod.  I can't do much about it except delete his posts here and that, in itself, just deletes the evidence.

Made a fruit cake (rum soaked) for x'mas this year, first time since with my mother when I was a kid.

It was really nice - problem was that I made it a week before x'mas and it was all gone before x'mas day.

Not sure how a fruit cake would go for a 50th.

These days people often settle for a mud cake (I don't like them).

Have seen people do a token / generic Birthday cake and supplied other deserts like Pav and other stuff.

If it is still hot ice cream cake can work but not sure about for a 50th.

Sounds like a challenge.

you should make it a few weeks before Xmas to be a clever sticks.. and keep in the back of the fridge in alfoil..where no one looks...

I dont think it works for a birthday cake though..

if I make it it will probable be a choc cake and a citrus maybe lemon cake.....I wont be decorating it...havent got the skills.....it has to special its for a special lady...

lots of young ones at the party/dinner.....I do have a nice carrot cake recipe  but not sure thats a good idea either...
