Title: The clinton foundation folds
Post by Sprintcyclist on Jan 17th, 2017 at 2:22pm

Quote:
THE Clintons are moving ahead with plans to downsize their controversial foundation’s network of offshoots, a decision carried out as the powerful family’s political influence wanes and its once-lengthy donor list shrinks.

In a decision announced last week, 22 additional employees are being laid off from the Clinton Global Initiative — known for its annual glitzy gathering of high-powered leaders and celebs. The lay-offs are tied to a decision to shutter CGI that originally was announced in an August 22 letter from former President Bill Clinton.

At the time, the Clintons were under pressure to explain how they would handle potential conflicts of interest with their namesake foundation if Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton were to win the White House.

Bill Clinton wrote in his letter at the time: “Nine years ago in my book Giving, I wrote, ‘I want to continue these meetings for at least a decade, with the objective of creating a global network of citizen activists who reach across the divides of our interdependent world to build real communities of shared opportunities, shared responsibilities, and a genuine sense of belonging.’ That is exactly what CGI, its members, and its dedicated staff have done.”

Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump — but the family is proceeding anyway with its CGI plans, and those “dedicated staff” are getting the axe.

The 22 staffers are part of a wave of lay-offs.

Syracuse.com reported on October 4 about a WARN notice announcing 74 employees would be laid off. Another notice was issued on January 12 stating 22 more employees would be let go. WARN is the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires employers to give 60 days advance notice of business closings.

Under the form’s “Reason for Dislocation” section, a staffer wrote: “Discontinutation (sic) of the Clinton Global Initative (sic).”

The “lay-off date” is set for April 15.

It’s unclear how many employees will be left at CGI after the latest round of lay-offs, or if any of those workers will be shifted to other Clinton projects. A spokesman for the Clinton Foundation declined to comment on the record for this story.

CGI, which began in 2005, is not a direct-action charity like the Clinton Foundation, but instead brings power players together to address “significant global challenges” through their own commitments to action.

While Hillary Clinton’s presidential prospects were quashed mere months after Bill Clinton penned his August letter, other factors may have contributed to CGI’s ending despite the disappearance of looming conflict-of-interest issues.

While the 2011 CGI meeting boasted a roster of 46 sponsors, that number had been cut in half by the final September summit, Politico reported. And since Clinton’s presidential election loss in November, other donors have cut back or stopped giving to the overarching Clinton Foundation, too. After 10 years and more than $88 million in donations, the Australian government decided against renewing its partnership with the foundation. Norway reduced its giving from $20 million in 2015 to $4.2 million in 2016.

The final CGI event came only days before anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks released a trove of emails from the account of Hillary Clinton campaign Chairman John Podesta. Some of the emails, dating as far back as 2008, revealed internal tensions — and possible impropriety — among the Clintons and CGI insiders.

“I signed a conflict of interest policy as a board member of cgi,” top Clinton confidant Doug Band wrote in a November 17 email to Podesta in which he referred to Clinton by his initials, WJC. “…Oddly, wjc does not have to sign such a document even though he is personally paid by 3 cgi sponsors, gets many expensive gifts from them, some that are at home etc.”

He added: “I could add 500 different examples of things like this.”

Chelsea Clinton was appointed to the CGI board in late 2011 and the Podesta emails show there was no love lost between the Clintons’ daughter and Band, with notes from both sent to Podesta privately excoriating the other.

Band, who began as Clinton’s “body man” during the White House years, was one of the masterminds behind CGI and played a key role in securing donations for the Clinton Foundation. He continued soliciting clients for the Clintons even after founding his own company, Teneo, in June 2011, according to a memo he wrote addressing his role in the Clinton’s world. Two of the major clients secured by Band — The Coca-Cola Company and Barclays Capital — did not sponsor CGI in 2016, Politico reported, despite years of reliably donating to the event.

So what? Trumps folded a few months ago as part of a deal with the Justice Dept to avoid prosecution for taking charitable donations and using it for himself.

Quote:
..........Jerome Corsi, an investigative reporter at WND and a New York Times bestselling author, focused on the evidence of corruption in the foundation’s financial reports in “Partners in Crime: The Clintons’ Scheme to Monetize The White House for Personal Profit.”

He argues shutting down CGI is a defensive action.

“The Clinton criminal enterprise is finally sputtering to its end, but that doesn’t mean people should walk away,” Corsi said.

“Actually, there is a great deal of evidence to suggest the Clinton Global Initiative is shutting down simply to avoid a further criminal investigation. But this only means it is more important that such an investigation take place. The fact they are shutting this down shows they are running scared.”

Clinton Foundation corruption also was uncovered during the presidential election campaign by investigative reporter Peter Schweizer, the author of “Clinton Cash,” which exposed the “pay-for-play” schemes.

Edward Klein’s “Guilty As Sin” and “Gary Byrne’s “Crisis of Character” also unveiled Clinton corruption.

In “Clinton Cash,” Schweizer recounts how the Clintons, who claimed they left the White House “dead broke,” have personally taken in more than $130 million since.

“Where did the money come from? Most people assume that the Clintons amassed their wealth through lucrative book deals and high-six figure fees for speaking gigs,” the book poses.

‘Grifter scheme’

Corsi argues the Clintons used their foundation to commit inurement, the criminal offense of running a charity for personal profit. Unlike bribery, which requires proof of an explicit quid pro quo, proving inurement can be done simply through scrutiny of financial records.

“The Clinton Foundation was simply a grifter scheme,” Corsi declared. “Ultimately, how did Bill and Hillary Clinton, who have never held a job except for the Clinton Foundation, become so wealthy? It was because they used the massive donations that were given to the Clinton Foundation to personally enrich themselves. And we know this because financial reporting shows the money spent on the supposed programs of the organization was far less than the money which was taken in.

Corsi said analysis of the financial statements is essential.

“A close look at the financial records means the Clintons will literally be caught in the act,” he said. “It’s the exact same kind of thing that was used to bust Al Capone – and the Clintons’ criminal empire is much more far-reaching than Capone’s.”

For example, Corsi alleges the many millions of dollars the Clintons took in speakers’ fees were funneled through a dummy corporation called WJC LLC.

Corsi argues Bill Clinton essentially engaged in money-laundering by taking the money from speaking fees, using a “pass-through” account at his dummy corporation to transfer it to other nominal accounts. The scheme made it impossible to show whether or not the speakers’ fees Bill Clinton received were foundation-related. Consequently, the Clintons’ had created a way for donors to transfer money to them personally.

You gotta wonder why the foundation is closing. After all it was set up to help disadvantaged kids and those needing help. What difference does it make that she is not pres? Unless Hillary meant to use her position as a way to gain financial leverage for donors.

Such a gross violation of office would have been picked by our vigilant press. For example look at how they are looking into every aspect of Donald's business dealings for any possible infringement.

Double standards? You betcha!

Well, with any luck, they will just pack up their little circus and go have a quiet retirement. Little Chelsea can figure out how to make a life for herself, and we all can just move on.

Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes -- we just need them all to go away.

The Kennedy's?

Definitely the Clintons and Bushes. Yes we need them to go away - to jail. To teach future "leaders" that they are not above the law.

For the big donors, it was a way of getting access to Hilary.

America worships success. Once you've failed, people flee from you. We are about to see the demise of the Clintons as a power-couple. I doubt there will be a comeback.

All very true. But it is not as if Clintons are exactly disappearing. Bill makes $10M a year on the speaking tour and you can bet Hillary will be interviewed extensively as the world watches Trump screw up big time and on Twitter.  Her time might be over, but check out 2020 and the next President (Michelle) Obama

Quote:
The Clintons have always claimed their family charitable foundation was able to raise so much money because, deep down, Saudi princes and Ukrainian oligarchs are really concerned about poor children in Haiti.

It will be interesting to see if past Clinton Foundation donors will continue their generous giving in the years to come. Hillary’s shocking defeat in the presidential election means that no member of the Clinton dynasty currently holds, or is running for, a powerful government position.

The foundation has already started reaching out to donors to ask for money, the New York Post reports. Clinton Foundation chairman Bruce Lindsey announced in an email to supporters Wednesday that former President Bill Clinton would personally match donations up to $200,000 before the end of the year.

“As we prepare for a new year, President Clinton and Chelsea remain dedicated to our work providing everyone a chance to succeed,” Lindsey wrote in the email. “Your contribution before the end of the year is so important that President Clinton is personally TRIPLING every gift to the Foundation, up to $200,000.”

Interestingly, Hillary’s name is nowhere to be found.

The FBI is still investigating the Clinton Foundation for corruption and money laundering. It was a hot topic during the presidential race; Donald Trump repeatedly described the foundation as a “criminal enterprise.” Emails published by WikiLeaks exposed questionable behavior at the foundation, such as the Qatari government presenting Bill Clinton with a $1 million check for his birthday.

In the email to foundation supporters, Lindsey dismissed allegations of wrongdoing, describing the foundation as a “force for good in this world.”

We’ll see in the coming months and years if the foundation’s sketchy donors were truly committing to “saving the world,” or if they just saw the foundation as an easy way to purchase influence and access to power.
