Former Essendon player and coach James Hird has reportedly been taken to hospital in a major health scare.

Hird is said to have been taken to Cabrini Hospital last night before being transferred elsewhere.

Other news links say it was a deliberate poison overdose.

I dunno whether to feel sorry or otherwise for this bloke.  I had him as the sole passenger in the cab some years ago, after he retired from playing.

He was constantly on the mobile and the discussion seemed all high flying business deals going on in which he was the centre of success.

Pretty rude of him actually.

Perhaps he was only pretending to be on the phone so he didn't have to talk to you.

That's the $M64 question cods.  Did he know that the supplement stuff was happening and players were being duped.

We'll never know, methinks, but this bloke has gone from the penthouse to the shithouse in a very short few years.  I reckon he is in serious financial doo doo, (hence the overdose) and those blokes he was so richly talking to in my Cab have abandoned him to the wolves.

As I said, I dunno whether to feel sorry for him or not.

Hird was 100% responsible for what happened to those players and that the way it dragged out for years..

an absolute disgrace...  >:(

he trashed and ended careers of some very good players

the right thing to do would have been to put their hands up and pleaded guilty from day dot...

take your punishment and get on with life...

take some GOD Damned RESPONSIBILITY ffs.. >:(

Hird received 1 million dollars for sitting out a season with all expenses paid to go study overseas... etc etc etc..

if he's having financial difficulties then he's the world biggest dickhead...

he has brought everything onto himself and still cries "poor poor pitiful me" boo hoo... :'(

they are saying on the telly this morning that its an expected OD...

still doing drugs...?

Quote:
JAMES Hird is being treated for a drug overdose as concerned friends fear for his wellbeing.

The controversial former Essendon coach was taken to Cabrini hospital after an ambulance was called to his Toorak home late on Wednesday night to treat him for a suspected drug overdose.

Hird’s condition is still unknown, however the Herald Sun understands he was transferred from Cabrini’s on Wednesday afternoon to a specialist mental health centre where he is still receiving care.

Sources close to Hird raised fears about the former star’s welfare in recent weeks.

While Hird has maintained a strong persona throughout his three-year fight over the Essendon doping scandal, concerned friends today feared he may have been putting on a brave face.

One former Essendon colleague expressed private concerns about Hird’s welfare in the weeks leading up to Christmas and was keeping in regular contact with him, worried about his mental state.

Hird’s wife Tania Hird has returned to her home after leaving for a couple of hours on Thursday afternoon.

She didn’t say anything to waiting media as she went inside her home about 7.45pm. She arrived alone and without James Hird.

Cabrini Health has refused to confirm whether the controversial former Essendon coach was treated due to patient confidentiality.

“We are unable to provide information on any individual patient. The safety, wellbeing and privacy of all our patients is of utmost importance at Cabrini,” hospital spokeswoman Christine Elmer said.

Health sources confirmed Hird’s treatment related to a suspected drug overdose, but refused to speculate on events leading up to the health scare.

The former champion has been criticised in some quarters for failing to accept responsibility for his role in the Bombers’ supplements fiasco.

noone knows because none of us were there....all I know is ... he would not have been alone....and those at the top always manage to be invisible when it comes to BAD NEWS....and I do not believe anyone inthat position would act alone......

my heart goes out to him.. the same with cousins...they have left them to get on with something they received thanks to football and probably their clubs culture.......turning a blindeye should also be seen as a crime..

all I kn ow is I am so glad none of my grandsons have shown any skills in this sport...we talk all high and mighty about kids dying from taking drugs at rock concerts.......

yet its nothing compared to the ruined lives of sports stars in particular football stars... >:( >:(

I think he is a good example of how easy it is to fall off the narrow road to success when you dont stick to core principles.

ALWAYS, there is the EASY way to do something and the RIGHT way to do something.

the easy way to try to improve is to take some sort of pill.
the right way to try to improve is to train hard, hit the gym, learn about nutrition, become mentally resilient.

Injecting things is simply the wrong way.

This is no different to a woman who drinks booze and gets puffy skin and then does botox
This is no different to people who line up to try to win lotto rather then grind it out in their business.
This is no different to people who try to pump their ego with a flash car rather then get legitimate self esteem by "becoming" a successful businessperson, father, son, mentor or community member.

Always remember, success is difficult to attain and has to be earnt and re earnt.
Always remember that mediocrity is the norm, that failure is the norm.

An overdose (and this is not a dig at James) is a mental association with the cry-baby mentality.
Dont go there. Learning to think positive thoughts when the going gets tough (and it will always get tough) is what allows you to grow.
let me say that again.
When sh*t happens , we can take a lesson from the sh*t and go into growth or we can identify with the sh*t and become a victim and go into pain. It is entirely your choice.
i totally understand self pity. But you must understand that it cannot and will not help you move forward and it is an emotion that you must ruthlessly and aggressively stomp out

Read the OP again and see if you can possibly work out what other people worked out. Now it will be a difficult taks because it will require you to do more than simply red words, but to also COMPREHEND meaning.

And while you do that I might download some large super-fast files in the middle of a heatwave - something your said is IMPOSSIBLE.

And that is the problem with trying to debate with an imbecile. You dont understand almost anything and so no debate is possible. You just throw up some words on a page and thing you have constructed an argument when in fact, you have rarely even constructed a sentence.

There is the "right ' way to use christianity and the easy way.

the right way is to understand the deep meaning of walking the christian path which is a very narrow road to success, a road of humility and compassion.

and there is the 'easy' way to use christianity. this is to use it to pump your ego and feel that you are a 'superior being' and that salvation belongs to "you".

Humans, live in the default where they will usually do the easy thing.

For christians (as for all cohorts of humans), failure is the norm and mediocrity is the default.

I have had the pleasure of living right next door to 3 churches....and believe me all have had their problems....two Anglican one Baptist..

the family side thought they were superior and of course had special rights... ::) ::)

and the members of the church invariably had dealing with the schools my kids attended...and they came across as very clicky  yet behind peoples backs were just as bitchy....

I always thought they thought sitting on a wooden bench once a week..meant it was ok for them..

You don't catch a train to sit and chat to the train driver or the other passengers.  Ditto when you catch a bus.  You just want to get from A to B with a minimum of fuss.

Cabbies in Sydney sit and talk in foreign tongues into their ear pieces the whole time and have God awful music playing on their radios.  I consider that to be inconsiderate and rude.

When I catch a cab the last thing I want to do is chat to the driver, it's not a social exercise, I just want to sit and think my own thoughts whilst not having to concentrate on driving myself.  It's not rude.  It's normal.

That is a huge stretch from train driver to cabbie. I think you just wanted to denigrate Aussie. In other words, your post was simple abuse.

He called a passenger rude for talking on the phone. I think that's why he's getting denigrated.

it certainly was a bit of a stretch for a taxi driver to complain about that. But it is aussie... so it is not surprising.

The point you seem to miss, and clearly do not understand, is that people do not PAY for transportation (bus, train, cab) because they want a social experience.  They usually just want transportation from A to B.

Now if a cabbie considers it rude that a passenger does not want to talk to him you have to consider that it is equally, or moreso, as rude to assume that when he is being paid to take someone from A to B that the passenger should feel obligated to carry on conversations they clearly do not wish to have.

Just because a person is recognised through the media by said cab driver I would say it was undeniably rude to expect said passenger to carry on a conversation just because the cabbie knew who he was.   Hird clearly had no clue who the cabbie was and wouldn't even want to.  Shouldn't he be allowed adequate privacy when PAYING for a service?  Shouldn't he be allowed to talk on his mobile without being judged?

Exactly. When I catch a cab I am hiring a service. I do not want to indulge in senseless conversation. It is rude to assume otherwise.
If I want to throw a peanut to a cabbie I will instigate the conversation, otherwise he should shut up and do what he is being  paid for.

now whos being judgemental???..

we are just looking at it from different perspective its what threads are all about...

but by the same token aussie shouldnt judge a celeb by his indifference in his cab on a token day..

if aussie was his driver every day fair enough but when you pick someone up ransom like.. you dont have a clue what they are going through at that time...

With an attitude like that, you'd be left at the side of the road.  But......at least we agree......the service you hire is to be transported from A to B, not to be provided with an Office in which to conduct your business as if no-one else was there.

ACtually it is a service to transport you from A to B without interference from an obnoxious driver. And if you think it is somehow wrong to use a mobile phone in a taxi then it explains the spectacular failure of your life. You just 'dont get it'.  the back seat IS an office as if the tax driver were not there - because he isnt.

your op aussie..

YOU are DRIVING the passenger from point A to point B for a FARE. He does NOT have to engage in a conversation with you.  YOU are the rude person if you consider otherwise and whine on a Forum about it.

Do you get upset when other "celebrities" IGNORE you?  You are a TAXI DRIVER .... they do NOT have to make small talk to some Cabbie.

TAXI DRIVERS (whether the own the car or not) are NOT IMPORTANT.

BS.  If I am in a taxi and I need to make or receive a call, I will never ask 'permission'.  I am the paying customer, not a guest. And in this day and age making a discreet phone call is a big nothing to anyone at all. Except you.

If your conduct is distracting me, placing your safety, the safety of others, and my safety at risk, I'll tell you to desist and if your don't, you'll be on the side of the road quick smart.

When you get in a Cab, don't leave your manners on the footpath.

aussie taxi drivers attack and rape their passengers as well....

but of course most people know its only a few..

James wasnt rude he was using a service and I dont think its nice you talk about him like this...he has been going through this demonising for years and now hes a broken man...and you are being extremely petty about someone using a phone in the back of your cab as if its an office..

as I have tried to say this isnt about you and your cab  and the manners you expect your passengers to have...

I am sure he paid for your service and thats really all you have worry about..

if he tried to get out of paying I would be on your side..

but in this case you have tickets on yourself..

Aussie's problem is that he thinks he is being IGNORED as a taxi driver when, in fact, he OWNS the taxi and should get proper "consideration"  ....  "celebs" are ignoring him ... boo hoo.

Perhaps put up a sign in your Taxi, Aussie ... "I OWN several Taxis and they cost me $250,000 each" .... or something. ::) Then you might get some feedback about YOU being a REAL dick. ;D ;D ;D

"Generally"

cabbies to a great job and have got put up with a lot of rsoles..

a busy person who has to make a few calls while driving from a to b is the least of their problems..

the community seems to be getting more aggressive and violent .. and that is a worry for people who work in the public transport industry..

you also get rouge cabbies who do illegal things..

but they are a minority and should not be generalised about...

......

however... I will generalise about one thing..

and thats the Cabbies standard of dress..

most of them dress like slobs (around here and other places)

I was down in Geelong a couple of weeks back and I thought a homeless person was trying to get a lift in one of the cabs near where we were shopping,

turns out.. '

he was the Cab Driver...  :o

and thew other cabbies were't much better..

and they all smoke and stink...

"All?"

Cabbies will tell you pretty much the same thing about quite a few of our customers.

There are even these types:

Huge woman, morbidly obese, is currently likely to be black balled here by the local Cabbies, because TWICE now, in recent weeks, when she got in the Cab, she stank like a toilet, and after she left, the evidence she was using the Cab as one was on the seat she occupied.

Simple manners is all I ask for.

there you go the GREAT aussie twist

we are not talking about that and you know it.

you claim a passenger has no right to treat the back of your cab like an OFFICE..

you claim its rude.. in 2017 its rude to use a phone...omg..

they do it at the dining table in my family...

they do it while being wheeled down for surgery  they cant live without the buggers..

but dont whinge about anyone using one in the back of a cab..

I am sure James wants so rude he didnt say thankyou or keep the change!!!..

well you never know..

aussie you are squirming...this isnt about you and your taxi.. after all you put yourself out there and take money from all sorts of people and call yourself part of the service industry..

if you dont like people using a phone in your cab.. then you must put a sign up saying so..

I haven been in some doctors waiting rooms and they say PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PHONE>>

how hard is that?

but dont expect passengers to read your mind in the year 2017...

I am not sure you would get many passengers if you did so..

its pretty arrogant after all..

but you seem set on being correct so go for it.

No, cods.  Read what I have been saying.

Quote:

All anyone need do is use their manners and not treat the bloke whose Cab it is and who is responsible for your safety as though he does not exist.

For example, when ever I grab a Maccas (at the drive through) for lunch when I'm driving the Cab, when I get to the place where you order, I am polite and greet her, tell her what the order is, pay, and then 'thanks.'  When I get to the place where they hand over the order, the same, 'G'day, and thanks.'

To do otherwise is rude, don't you reckon?

YOU ARE A BLOODY TAXI DRIVER.  You are the BOTTOM of the customer service echelon.

Get over it.

Do you have a point?  If so, make it.  Is is that there is a class structure, a tier system in Australia, and where, at some level, the use of manners is no longer desirable.

Let's all spit at Cabbies because they are Cabbies, ~ is that it?

You dont seem to realise your place on the totem pole is BELOW GROUND.

Oh....I did not realise that.  Perhaps you can explain how that is?

It's true Aussie. I learnt it in my Masters of Cab Driving degree.

I paid for my Maccas too cods, but I did not leave my manners somewhere else, and treat those whose service I paid for as though they were invisible.  I was polite to them, just like I hope you'd expect me to be.

Simple manners is all I ask for.

you are making that up.. I am sorry aussie you will say anything to justify what you have claimed..

anyone heard of James Hird by any chance.. :( :(

Like Hell I am!  It is fact.  Three Cabs rejected her just today for that very reason.

bull shIte.......she could and can complain about that treatment....

I would imagine the UBER business in your neck of the woods is doing really well..you have really bad tempered taxi drivers in Fairfax  it would seem...

So...you expect Cabbies to put up with people bringing their shite stained clothing into their Cabs, and leaving the skid mark evidence on the seat they were using?

You can't be serious.

that isnt true and you know it......

why dont you take this dreadful person direct to the police station I am sorry I dont believe you....

if you dont enjoy your job or the people you come across then get out...thats all I can say..

you cant pick and choose who uses your cab.. if they dont have any manners or you expect them to treat you differently you are in the wrong job...

I am sure many bus drivers feel like driving by bus stops.. but they dont because its their JOB..

.like yours its taking people from one place to another....

there are   no rules about etiquette  or what to wear in cabs as far as I know...and if you dont have a sign telling passengers they are expected to say hello and or goodbye.. then what do you expect???

it goes with the job.. just like bus drivers.....the good and the bad...and the ugly....they are everywhere maybe worse in  Qld who would know..all you do is grumble

you wrote a thread on the life and times of a cabbie remember...all you do is whinge about passengers how awful it is putting up with the lowlife public...

as far as I am concerned if a passenger left filth in your cab then you take him or her straight to the police or the base and have them deal with it..

I am sorry but I recall an ambulance bloke being spat on by his passenger but he didnt whinge about on a public forum he reported it..

its up to you.. dont tell us about it.. tell the man who runs the base you do have as many rights as your passengers have after all..

there is no way would I get in a taxi that had been abused like that  it would take more than dettol..I can promise you....that is disgusting and I still dont believe it.. because you would have mentioned this before...

I OWN the Licence cods.  I drive when my drivers take holidays or need a day off for whatever reason.  And yeas, we do meet the worst of the worst, and one of the worst is an arrogant, but otherwise sane and richly successful bloke who can't even bring his manners with him when he gets into a Cab.

Grubs, we just accept as grubs.  High flying successful Brownlow Medalists.....nah, we don't expect them to be rude.

Quote:
if you dont enjoy your job or the people you come across then get out...thats all I can say..

Most people are polite and do not leave their schit in our Cabs cods, and many people need the service we provide and they really appreciate it.  They make the job worth doing.  I can guarantee you cods that one day, you'll need us.

Quote:
you cant pick and choose who uses your cab..

Stop trying to tell Granny how to suck eggs, cods.  I can pick and choose who uses my Cab.  For example, the address of the "Lady" who leaves her schit on our seats is well known now.  We simply ignore the job, some poor bastard Cabbie who does not know her and the address accepts it...he does the job..she leaves her schit behind and he joins the list of those who have 'black balled' her.

Quote:
if they dont have any manners or you expect them to treat you differently you are in the wrong job...

Cods, it is not my job.  I OWN the Cab.  I retired many years ago.  I drive occasionally as I have just explained.

lol and my new cat who has adopted me btw..  he is a gassy little man.. peg on nose.. ewwww
until this one I was convinced cat's don't have gas..

Trump when asked about Melania said he didn't think she went to the toilet..what kind of man thinks a woman does NOT have bodily functions..that speaks so much about his stupidity I say. Would he be shocked one day if he awoke and found her dead in her bed beside him because she eventually exploded?

Funny thing is, of course, that I prefer them to be polite on entry and exit, and in between to shut the ferk up.

Ask any Cabbie, and they'll tell you that our most favoured 'passenger' is a package, or lost luggage being delivered etc.

Tiptoe down to your nearest plant nursery and buy a small bottle of Glysophate Herbicide, and after diluting with water according to the instructions - apply to the new shoots with a spray can.

just seen this advice.. I have done all that herb... even Tough Roundup...and its like stopping an attack of fleas.... its some Chinese thing it rambled all over the trellis with beautiful orange flowers in Summer...l however shed every flower and leaf made such a mess it had to go.... at least that was the plan...

since then its like the avenge of the Triffids..I kill one up pops three... ;D ;D ;D

it is definitely taking its revenge... but armed with two bottles of tree killer.....cods is on the warpath.
