South Australia lost all of its power as a result of unrealistic Greens and Labor policy to use only renewable energy.

Let this be a warning to all Australians and those who want to oppose other developing nations in the world coal fired power production.

Renewable energy is not capable of sustaining base load!

If you don't know what that means, it's time you look it up.

This was proven to have been a lie a week ago or more. Why do so many continue to show off their stupidity.

A billion tons of coal was never going to keep the poles up in the now yearly once in 50 year storms

err... you mean that ONE line between SA and Vic??

whereby SA Government can't supply their own state with power so have to rely on other states??

A series of high power towers north of Adelaide came down causing the network to shut down to protect itself.

Yes that's the one, they have to get coal fired power from another state when there is no wind or sun.

Blame the Liberal Government which privatised South Australia's power generation and supply system, not the South Australian Government.

As was said, a billion tons of coal was not going to stop the wind blowing over power supply towers which would have carried the electricity to the users.   Time to face reality.  Have a go at the privatisers.  Have a go at the electricity supply companies.  Do not blame the renewable generators which were not responsible for what happened in the one in fifty year weather event.    ::)

.as has been pointed out... which you seem to have no problem with SA had to depend on Vic for backup... ::) ::).. you see nothing wrong with that..

Had SA had its own power generating capacity even the collapse of 22 towers would not have blacked out the entire state.  The wind turbines were not running because they are unable to deal with wind gust of more than 90kph, which occurred in that storm. This placed an extra load on the lines from Victoria which in turn shut down to avoid damage.  Had SA been running its own power stations and not been reliant on a limited capacity connection  from interstate the blackout would have been far less severe.

That bit you made up, there has been no mention of extra load causing anything. Wires going short circuit from tower crashes was the cause

Agree though SA needs at least one gas/coal powered station though and perhaps another interconnect

rubbish ..

at the time the safety switch tripped and caused the blackout, the turbines were running and they were generating power. You realise the wind isn't uniform across the whole state, right?

The wind turbines shut down in strong winds it's a safety thing.

Solar panels don't work when overcast and stormy.

Renewables are not very reliable in high or low winds with cloud cover.

that is referencing the wind farms in the states mid north

that 260MW collapse was the deliberate result of an automatic shutdown of the wind farms based in SA’s mid-North,

.... and the other farms? I noticed both you and 'stop these things' pretend they don't exist ... funny thing a site set up solely to stop wind farms is cherry picking it's data .. who'd a thunk it?

The stopped producing power only once the safety switch tripped. Up until that point, they were still producing power.

Game, Set and Match John

Once again others have to be embarrassed by your ignorance  :-[

Make sure you read that 'power generation for dummies' ... it'll help you immensely  :)

the only one embarrassed is you ... where in that story does it say the windmills stopped generating power?
;D ;D

"That 260MW collapse was the deliberate result of an automatic shutdown of the wind farms based in SA’s mid-North, located in the path of the storm front: the final and total collapse in SA’s power supply follows immediately thereafter."

that is referencing the wind farms in the states mid north

that 260MW collapse was the deliberate result of an automatic shutdown of the wind farms based in SA’s mid-North,

.... and the other farms? I noticed both you and 'stop these things' pretend they don't exist ... funny thing a site set up solely to stop wind farms is cherry picking it's data .. who'd a thunk it?

The stopped producing power only once the safety switch tripped. Up until that point, they were still producing power.

Yes, the safety switch tripped, which would not have happened to a power source unaffected by wind. The same thing happened to all SAs wind farms over the course of the day.   Once more, slowly....wind farms must operate within narrow limits ....limits that were exceeded across SA that day.

Yet, in NSW and Victoria the otherday, which are dependent on "a power source unaffected by wind", tens of thousands of customers lost power.   Gee, I wonder what caused that?  The wind perhaps?  Nah, they had coal fired power stations...    ::) ::)

Exactly, they had coal fired power stations that could take up the load in spite of the weather conditions. They did not depend entirely on a source of power that cannot work when its too windy.  ::)

So, then, what caused their power blackouts, Belgarion?

Gee, was it a loss of the power grid?   Gee, isn't that what happened in South Australia?    ::)
