The bill to ban greyhound racing in NSW as from 1st July 2017 is a fait accompli. The Greens are simpatico with the Libs on the move. A move to have an amendment added to the Bill was defeated by the Green-Lib alliance. The amendment stated that the Wentworth Park greyhound track was to become green space and was not to be handed over to developers. You would have thought the Greens would have supported such and amendment. An emphatic NO to that notion. How strange for the Greens to refuse such an amendment considering their opposition to the idea just 2 years ago.

Not only has property developer Brookfield Multiplex got Wentworth Park greyhound racetrack in its sights - it is also seeking to redevelop a swathe of the Blackwattle Bay foreshore.

The company wants to include the Sydney Fish Markets, the only public high school for students in the inner city, a concrete works and boat wharf in its unsolicited bid, set to be lodged with the state government.

As local Green and independent MPs reacted with alarm to the proposal to turn the Wentworth Park greyhound track into 700 apartments, the NSW government has confirmed the company is seeking a much bigger redevelopment but would not give details.

Greens MP Jamie Parker, whose electorate of Balmain will include Wentworth Park at the next election, said the track sale was an outrageous proposal, as neither Brookfield nor Greyhound Racing NSW owned the land.

When you look at the dates these Wentworth park apartments were designed it raises the question of why would anyone design these buildings that couldn't be built with no land available.

It's quite clear banning the dogs and selling off the land to developers was planned long before it was announced.

Without knowing the details, I'm guessing such an ammendment would not have the support of the libs, and therefore ran the risk of derailing the ban. The Greens couldn't take that chance.

The ban must be the priority here. The culture of rampant suffering and abuse in this industry is scandalous, and it must be banned forthwith. And yes, it is worth sacrificing a tiny spot of green space to get this ban through.

Actually Wentworth Park in Glebe suburb is a sitting duck really.

On Saturday nights when the dog races are on there are more dogs than people there, the crowds are so small.

Only a year or so ago the Harold Park horse trotting track on the other end of Glebe suburb was converted to hundreds of high rise residential.

Glebe suburb is only a kilometer from the Sydney city area and so is very high value land. There is already light rail from the city to Glebe.

The deal with the disgusting Greenies was to get greyhound racing banned in NSW if the Greenies supported the takeover of the Wentworth Park Dog Track which will nett the NSW Govt multi millions.

The revolting Greenies would also like to get Randwick Racecourse closed down but this is unlikely to occur.

Would anyone like to keep a Greenie as a pet ?

Apparently they smell fowl and dribble a lot on the carpet and do that wipe thing along the carpet due to high worm infestation.

PETA calls wool the new fur

The British arm of animal rights organisation PETA is shifting its attention from fur to wool with a scathing opinion piece that directly references Australian wool production.
