Good afternoon/evening everyone

Following discussion with Freediver, there's an obvious need for an additional Moderator to help cover the site.
I will be away for a few weeks holiday in the US this coming month and with it being largely FD and myself covering the moderation at the moment, it is time to add another GM to help us.

It's not a popularity contest and its not a public vote but we would like anyone who would like to perform the role to please PM FD and myself so we can see who is interested.

That could be a chore for you, nothing is insurmountable though! I think someone who already posts with restraint on language etc would be a good choice. Issuevoter for example.

I have nothing against you John, we're mostly towards the same side politically, I just think that someone that, that came naturally to would be a better choice than a nobbled poster that likes to mix it up.

I have to say that Management here moves in mysterious ways.  It is clear, by Board activity, that BigVic has been appointed but Management have not given Members the courtesy of a formal notification by a Post from them.

Poor form.

Excellent choices , can they do things on their own accord or do they have to have a circle jerk meeting with you and FD ?

They have exactly the same powers I do.
They don't need mine or FD's approval.
However like before each moderator knows what others have done and I know both these guys will do an excellent job and give us good coverage in future months.

Well, I am an honest person, so I'll say what I think.  Setanta, while being a good Poster most times, has let himself down on others, and posting male genitalia was one of those times which was a deal breaker (GMod wise) for me.  He is now vulnerable to those I need not name posting similar, and if, as he ought, he acts, they will rightly call hypocrisy.  I have other reasons I'll keep private because I ought, so, Setanta while I'd love to give you the kiss of death with my endorsement, I can't, and you know why.

I also should add that Setanta has helped me out big time on matters only he knows about, and he knows I am grateful for, and hugely appreciative of that.  Without the assistance he willingly gave me, I would have struggled on a project.

I just cannot support this decision, however.  Sorry.

Whoa, sorry, but that's pretty self centred and heavy duty.  GMods should not show bias and should be able to balance their personal likes/dislikes.  Easy to say, I know, but what you said constitutes a threat towards Cods and that is not at all balanced or non-biased and GMods should at least try to rise above pettiness and tit for tat.

Cods is definitely not the worst abuser here and it now seems that she will have a target on her back whilst the worst abusers will get a pass.

You have a job to do here- but we the posters here will stand up for anyone we feel have been treated unfairly by any mod here. Cods is considered as a valued member here and one that keeps the spirit of Ozpol alive and humming along. I have no problem with the person ...  just the post.

With the amount of abuse and trolling that goes on here unhindered, singling Cods out like that on a personal level was not what I think is appropriate for a GMod to make as his first post.

It's all relative but I see it as totally inappropriate.  We obviously all have differing standards.

I had private communications and expressed that I didn't think it was a job for me and offered a couple of people I thought may suit. For me, at this stage, yes. Unfortunately I read no-where near every thread. I doubt any of us could, it'd be a full time job.

well of course I have no clout here emma.. and being female I guess neither have you...however I do believe calling anyone other than their id is insulting in some folks eyes....it will depend on the person you chose to do that too I do think giving someone a silly name is a little childish if one want to be taken  serious on this forum...thats just me...I am sure the mods will find nothing wrong with it unless they get a complaint...

its when the gmods start to abuse you that you need to worry emma....

other than that just give back what you get.....and hope the mods take into account exactly why you said what you said..   after all it takes two to tango...and I am almost sure that isnt always the case.

Hi Emma - for me - I am on here a fair bit as I am now retired after a few decades in the RAN.   I enjoy these boards but as stated before, I may not get the chance to view the total postings each day.  I have now 4 grandchildren to keep amused and, as we look after two each day whilst Mum works, I may find my time on here limited!    After 30 years I am now coming to grips with bottles and nappies again - I think sometimes I would rather be back in Darwin!

As for your main question, trolling and abuse seem to be the realm of only a few on here - but I agree it can be onerous and unenjoyable.    From my perspective I can only do what I see - so please advise if you wish

Confirmed.  As a reader, I do not find her posts offensive - however, you may. Is she  stating an opinion that I would presume can be supported by fact?   Should you find it offensive or personal abuse - why not do what I have done when abused on here and report it.     Mind you, it takes a LOT to get me to that point, but I have reached it and have been satisfied that my submission has been dealt with.

Noting that, and should you decide you are aggrieved party I would suggest you take your grievance to a GM of your choice and let it be tested for non compliance with OZPOL rules, regulations and guidelines

Actually there are Lisa, they are listed for GMs to read on appointment.  As I stated to Cods,and I am paraphrasing here as I don't have the exact writing, f she has a complaint then take it to a GM of her choice and it will be taken into account with rules, regulations and guidelines.  Just because they cannot be seen by some posters does not mean they don't exist.  There is also a very comprehensive code of conduct for GMs.  That is also not in the public domain.

No bait, Big Vic, a genuine question.  How many times do I have to say that I am literal.  You can bet I mean simply what I say.  There are no baits when such a simple, unambiguous and clear question is asked.

So......now you have confirmed what I suspected ~ there are other things written only GMods can see.....is it any wonder Members are totally confused?

Mere Members see nothing except the Rules, and they are clear and unambiguous.  Elsewhere, and where enforcement is considered, those Rules are expanded or perhaps even watered down......but for some inexplicable reason, Members are not to know about it that.

That is just complete insanity, and it is no wonder people are thoroughly pissed off and frustrated with how the Rules are so inconsistently applied or not applied.
