Title: board avatars Post by freediver on Jun 25th, 2016 at 2:43pm
We need new avatars for the following boards:
Politicians Suck (something different from the existing one please) Europe America QLD NSW VIC TAS SA WA NT Board avatars need to be 33 X 33 pixels and can be any image file type. I made most of the current ones in MS paint. However I would prefer images with a transparent background that look good with different background colours (some people view this board with a blue background). If you can improve upon any of the other existing ones I would appreciate that also. |

Dear FD and fellow OzPolers,
Pls have a look at this link. It has the State flags, Coat of arms, state Badge, Floral, Bird, Animal, Fish, Motto of each state and territory. Personally I really like the Coats of Arms or the state badges for OzPol. (except Victoria, it looks crap). I hope this helps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_symbols_of_states_and_territories_of_Australia |

Getting back on topic. I have re-sized the various State Badges to 33x33 in this link, in case you missed seeing them. At cods' request there is one for the ACT as well ... a page or so over. ;)
http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1466903172/0#6 I don't think these would be suitable, now that I see them so tiny, as most people would probably not even know their own State's Badge, less alone other States. Freediver has suggested avatars that depict the State, etc. that everybody would recognise. I tend to agree. Here is one I did (33x33) of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from some clipart. Even that isn't very clear. ![]() |

OK, so I have tried to create some avatars for the new State Boards. Some look OK until you reduce them to 33x33.
None look very exciting to me. I tried. Sorry. Do Members actually recognise anything that is symbolic of their STATE? Queensland = the Big Banana? Big Pineapple. XXXX beer? Cane toads, sugarcane .... NSW = Opera House/Harbour Bridge Victoria = Trams Sth Aust = Churches/Barossa Valley WA - already done (Black Swan) Tassie - Tasmanian Tiger NT - already done Which State is known for crocodiles? mosquitoes? Great Barrier Reef? FNQ! What else is Victoria known for ... other than the Melbourne trams? |
Title: Re: board avatars Post by freediver on Jun 27th, 2016 at 8:53pm
A croc for the NT.
A maroon canetoad for QLD. A sky blue cockroach for NSW. Cartoon style images with 2 colours seem to work best. |

Title: Re: board avatars Post by freediver on Jul 2nd, 2016 at 9:45pm
Powerpoint preserves transparency when you edit png images:
Powerpoint 14: Simple method: Drag and drop the image file into powerpoint. Right click on the image, size and position. Size will be selected on the left, change it to crop. If the width is less than the height, increase it to match under crop position. Also under crop position, in the left box, put a negative number equal half of the increase you did to width. This will centre the image in the blank white space. Or similar if height is less than width. Now go back to size and reduce the image to 33 pixels by typing "33pixel" in the height box. Right click on picture and save as picture. Check the file properties, under details. If it is wrong, undo the resize in powerpoint and try again (21 pixels seems to work). |
Title: Re: board avatars Post by Neferti on Jul 3rd, 2016 at 11:37am
I don't have PowerPoint.
I just used Paint that comes with Windows to re-size those avatars. It is very basic so anyone could have done it. It wouldn't accept 33 x 33 in some cases, just reverted to 33 x whatever despite what I typed. |
Title: Re: board avatars Post by freediver on Jul 3rd, 2016 at 12:29pm
You need to crop it square first. It preserves the aspect ratio when you resize.
