Title: Arctc Methane Post by lee on Jun 23rd, 2016 at 12:31pm
Remember this-
'THURSDAY DEC. 4 2014 – Press Conference Room 2, COP-20, Lima PRESS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT Arctic Methane Emergency Group FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TIME: Thursday, December 4, 2014, 12:00-12:30 PM SUBJECT: Arctic meltdown: a catastrophic threat to our survival AMEG calls for rapid refreezing of the Arctic to halt runaway melting' 'The lack of significant long-term trends suggests that more complex biogeochemical processes are counteracting the observed short-term (monthly) temperature sensitivity of 5.0 ± 3.6 ppb CH4/°C. Our results suggest that even the observed short-term temperature sensitivity from the Arctic will have little impact on the global atmospheric CH4 budget in the long term if future trajectories evolve with the same temperature sensitivity.' http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/2016GL069292/pdf From the science is settled department. |

Well that was meaningful. |

Sorry, i didnt realize you were looking for more of a response.
Ill expand. yes, i remember. They are researching the interactions between climate change, permafrost thaw, methane and nitrous emissions. Theory suggests that ch4 is a potent geeenhouse gas. They are studying the effects and making tentative predictions about the impact of yhus methane release. After two years the predictions dont match the observations. Feel better? And out of sagacious curiosity what point were you making? |

'Twenty-nine years of measurements show little change in seasonal mean land sector CH4 enhancements, despite an increase in annual mean temperatures of 1.2 ± 0.8°C/decade (2σ).' http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/2016GL069292/pdf Empirical evidence trumps theory. |

Im just happy to hear you accept that temperatures have been increasing at 1 dg per decade for the last thirty years....... ;)

Yes. But it doesn't seem anything more than natural variation. Did you know about the methane seeps from the ocean that also don't appear to be adding to the global warming? 'Methane gas released from the Arctic seabed during the summer months leads to an increased methane concentration in the ocean. But surprisingly, very little of the climate gas rising up through the sea reaches the atmosphere.' https://cage.uit.no/news/methane-not-escaping-into-the-atmosphere-arctic-ocean/ |
