Title: AGW: Secular eschatology? Post by GordyL on Jun 21st, 2016 at 5:58pm
Firstly I believe in science so I believe in AGW. I don't think anyone really knows what the exact changes will be.
I do however believe the doomsday prophesies of AGW and what ever calamity will come next is humans expressing their need for some good old fashioned eschatology sorely missed in our ever more secular society. Perhaps this is a reason why more religious people tend to not believe in AGW, they get their eschatology elsewhere? |

How does recognising AGW relate to the final destination of the soul?

Does the science show AGW or merely natural variability? It was about the same or warmer in the MWP. If it was natural then, why can't it be natural now? |

Recognising it is different to thinking it will usher in the end. |

I blame Intelligent Design.
God created a faulty system, proving god is faulty ... and because of god's faults, god's creation, humans, who are also faulty. That's why there are so many dumbarses who ignore the science that back AGW. |

Do you think the Cold War was another doomsday complex? Or simply people responding to real threats? |

Interesting use of 'believe' - believe in science, believe in AGW. Do you also 'believe' in the heliocentric planetary system - or do you know it's heliocentric. There's the big difference between science and AGW. The former means, literally, that you know (sciare = to know). Nobody knows how exactly the climate works. AGW is a matter of belief because there are more unknowns about the climate than knowns. |

So lets replace 'believe' in science with 'following the scientific method'. You get the point, lets not get bogged down in pedantry. |

"I follow the Christian method' or "I follow the Scientology method" shows you that this is not about pedantry. Muslims follow the Islamic method and say they 'know' what Allan wants from them. Details matter because a little bit of difference at the outset can take you a long way away from truth in a relatively short time. |

Tough question, was it? More interestingly, do you see parallels to the Cold War paranoia/fear and belief that AGW paranoia/fear and your own paranoia/fear of Muslims? |

Don't blame God - he never did anything.... is that the same science that told us we'd never get past 30 mph since the air would be sucked out of a train or car? |

I believe that when there are two conflicting ideologies and weaponry to match with the knowledge of what those weapons and what war can do - that somehow is a far more salient issue than studies that suggest the world may or may not suffer badly through a rise in overall temperature. I always say that if governments are really behind global warming etc, why then do they insist on massive burn-offs of native timber every year? |

If you believe in Anthropogenic Global Warming then you are believing a fairy tale straight out of mythology.
In 1990 the science or (misconstrued hypothesis) that was pumped into the IPCC's computer models project the following, By the end of this century a warming of 2.78°C Last 25 years of observations tell a different story By the end of this century empirical data shows a Warming of 1.01°C So you will be taxed on a lie, the temperature will remain under that magical figure of 2°C, whether we are taxed or not. Believing in science is a good thing. But believing in a science that is little more than a misconstrued hypothesis where observations do not match your theory well what can I say. In the old days they would have thrown the baby out with the water and started over again. Like I keep saying the oligarchy have realized that the Earth is too small for large scale wars where they can fleece the nations of their wealth. What's the next best thing to fleecing nations of their wealth, taxing us all on the air we breathe under the false pretence that that demonic greenhouse gas CO2 somehow controls temperature on Earth. If there is one gas that controls temperature on Earth that is water vapour and clouds, now they cant tax us on water can they....???? Or can they......!!!! |
