What a nong.

She was waist deep water at the beach. Would be curious to know how many warning signs were on the beach.

Just further reinforces my opinion of FNQ as being a holiday in hell.

Can't swim in summer because of the jellies, can't swim any other time because of of the crocs. Can't walk thru the parks without being bashed by Abos.

There doesn't seem to be any way to explain it. One of the women lived in Cairns, so she would have been well aware of the dangers.

They had arrived at this destination in the daytime and therefore would have seen the danger notices all over the place.

Was it foul play with no croc involved? 10.30 at night with no witnesses on the beach at this holiday resort ....  ? Mighty suspicious. Did one kill the other somewhere else and then claim it was a croc? A love triangle with the deceased's husband?

No remains to be seen anywhere despite all-day searching from sea, air and land? Crocs usually 'save some for later' ...

I smell a rat here. It's all too impossibly insane that the Cairns woman wouldn't know it's a suicide note to go waist-deep in those waters late at night ...

I've been swimming at Port Douglas before. If you pick the beach you can go for a swim.

I got the impression from reports she was in some kind of backwater.

Do those 'safe' beaches have crocodile warning signs? - and if they do - then WHY did you risk getting rolled by a croc?

It's hard to tell because the tourists leave their towels hanging over the signs. It's the only way to keep the sand off.

Jesus!  ;D ;D ;D

That should be an indictable offence ... in fact I think it already is an indictable offence.

So okay - you didn't have crocs nibbling at your toes, but how about the irukanji?

Marla and other potential tourists beware! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYTEOGPG3zg

It was in the off season. No irikanji. Plus I think the swell would make things difficult for a croc. I did check with the locals first. Mind you I was a bit nervous because the water was filthy. That's when the sharks come in.

Never check with the locals - they'll tell you anything just for a private laugh. Always check with the ambos and the police - they are the ones who have to deal with the aftermath of a mauling or killing.

Also - pay for some local abos to form a circle around you in the water.  8-)

They were tourism employees. The last thing they want is a dead tourist. Even if he does still pay for his room.

I was about 19, at a beach party at Yorkys beach and wanted to get back to my camp site at Holloway beach. The locals just told me to walk along the beach.  Thanks Yirrganydji people

There really is only one road to Cape Tribulation and you would have to be blind to miss all the Croc Warnings signs.

When this story broke yesterday, I went to google which linked me to the brisbanetimes.com.au website. The story was text with a video of a news bulletin. So I clicked on the play button, and of course it went to a commercial first. It was Allianz Insurance and it kicked off with the old R and R song, See Ya Later, Alligator, in a while crocodile. Allianz would probably not want that to happen, but it shows you how bloody stupid the internet can be at times.

That's actually really clever. You were reading an article about crocodiles, so it played an ad with a reference to crocodiles, now you are posting on internet forums about Allianz insurance.

yes, I am under the same impression, some sort of backwater.

I was up there a few years ago and we did not consider going near the water.

We went on one of the 'croc spotting' tours on the daintree river.

Notice how little effort the croc puts in on this attack.

And they say a bigger one has been recorded in the records. What surprises me is how fast these dinosaurs move on land when they're going full pelt after something.  Almost as fast as a grizzly bear. Bloody awesome.

I've met so many arseholes like Gordy.

I was a vegetarian for about 20 years.

Whenever arseholes like Gordy found out that I didn't eat meat, they'd immediately become defensive & aggressive, even though I never once suggested that they should stop eating meat themselves or that I was superior to them or healthier etc.

I never made a fuss about not eating meat, and never mentioned it until I was asked.

Still, once the arseholes like Gordy found out that I didn't share their love of meat, they immediately went on the attack.

Yep, I know Gordy all too well.

You seem very insecure.  I was simply asking if you're one of the vege types who actually DO feel morally superior for not eating creatures. I lived in byron bay for a bit luvy,  I've been called a murder for eating meat
A simple yes or no answer would have been just dandy.

Do you eat meat?

Nope.

Do you feel that makes you morally superior to meat eaters?

Why? Do you think I ought to?

You seem to be suggesting that I have an argument?

I've met so many arseholes like Gordy.

I was a vegetarian for about 20 years.

Whenever arseholes like Gordy found out that I didn't eat meat, they'd immediately become defensive & aggressive, even though I never once suggested that they should stop eating meat themselves or that I was superior to them or healthier etc.

I never made a fuss about not eating meat, and never mentioned it until I was asked.

Still, once the arseholes like Gordy found out that I didn't share their love of meat, they immediately went on the attack.

Yep, I know Gordy all too well.

That's exactly what she gave you.

She said "Nope".

However, you couldn't leave it there.

You had to push it.

The insecure one is you.

You're showing your true colours tonight, Gordy.

First we need to establish what you mean by "morally superior". We haven't established that.

Personally I think you mean 'ethical superiority'.  A much more interesting  conversation anyway.

its called debating lefty style.... of course somehow somewhere homosexuality will creep in...mostly if gweggy is in the thick of it which is usually the case...

I think crocs often let the body rot for a few days to soften it up.

Did he die?

I'ld think so.
I was not on that boat, I assume it was in Africa.

The owner of our boat told us how they hunt.
They are stealth hunters.
In real life they are very scary beasts who will remain hidden underwater for over an hour before doing a surprise attack.

As what is shown in the clip.

We get pleasure from the things that come naturally to us. Otherwise we would develop an aversion to survival. All intelligent social predators display the same behaviour as us - including hunting and killing just for fun and even leaving all or most of the meat behind.

There are a few other animals that play with their prey before killing it. And they don't always eat it either. Cats, dolphins, killer whales and some other species do this.

Primates also. I expect anything that passes for an "intelligent, social predator" does this. You might have to add warm blooded, but I wouldn't class any of the cold blooded predators as particularly intelligent. The cold blooded animals tend to have a strategy of spending as little energy as possible.

from Gordy's link:

Surplus killing, also known as excessive killing and henhouse syndrome,[1][2] is a common behavior exhibited by predators, in which they kill more prey than they can immediately eat and then cache or abandon the remainder. The term was invented by Dutch biologist Hans Kruuk after studying spotted hyenas in Africa[3] and red foxes in England.[4] Surplus killing has been observed among zooplankton, damselfly naiads, predaceous mites, martens, weasels, honey badgers, wolves, orcas, red foxes, leopards, lions, spotted hyenas, spiders, brown[5] and black and polar bears, coyotes, lynx, mink, raccoons, dogs, house cats,[6] and humans.[7][8]

I think you are stretching it a bit when we are talling about humans hunting down a croc or shark that has had a nibble on a human...

what about snakes... do we hunt them down..they also kill humans..

havent heard of a badger attack in ages though.

The psychology behind the ghoulish gawking is the subliminal satisfaction we feel in knowing we ourselves are safe from these painful and fatal episodes that are being acted out in front of us.

At a bloody car accident, the Chinese will gather in a huge crowd from all around and laugh themselves sick. The laughing is from the relief they feel at not being one of the victims. By common agreement the majority feel it's okay to express themselves honestly at these occasional hilarious 'events'. Politeness and consideration for the victims is a Western cultural construct that they need not bother themselves with.

The bullfights have the same psychology behind them. It's not to identify with the primal aggression of the matador's 'hunting instinct', but to wait in hopeful anticipation that the matador will get gored and mutilated by the bull.

Speed-car racing. It's accidents that keep bringing the paying spectators back again.

That's good thinking on their part.

I do the same with my chicken wings, only I speed up the 'loose flesh' condition by deep frying them and then simmering them in 50 / 50 water and soya sauce with a couple of star aniseeds.

I don't have time to let my chicken wings rot on the side of a river bank, otherwise I would.

The footage doesn't match the title of the video.

No Warthog ... just a wild pig.

And obviously the pigs were looking for a feed from the people in the boat.

So they deliberately got that pig killed by the croc.

Bottom line ...both women were idiots .... crocs have been making a comeback down the QLD coast since 1974 when they became protected....

there have been enough fatal attacks starting with Beryl Wruck in the Daintree in 1985.

http://www.amazingaustralia.com.au/animals/crocodile_attacks.htm

They have re-established down as far south as the Mary River near Maryborough/Hervey Bay & Fraser Island.

Look out Brisbane/Moreton Bay you're next.

There are far too many now in QLD ... they have ruined a lot of tourism potential for our beautiful beach locations.

and I believe that they should be culled from south of the Daintree.

Oh anyone thinking it's safe to ever swim at Port Douglas no matter what the weather ... has rocks in the head.

Yep. True.

And when this news item was covered on Seven's Sunrise program, a croc expert mentioned that crocs are definitely getting BIGGER in size.

So you can forget about being in the water....people now need to be careful when in boats. You have to be in something big to be safe.

You don't even go trying to fetch you golf balls from the water hazards at the Mirage Resort Golf course.

Agree entirely

Yep. True.

And when this news item was covered on Seven's Sunrise program, a croc expert mentioned that crocs are definitely getting BIGGER in size.

So you can forget about being in the water....people now need to be careful when in boats. You have to be in something big to be safe.

Anyway......back to the topic.

A singing white flag?

Two white flags, waving in unison to music.

If that isn't nice I don't know what is.

There was a proposal to allow trophy hunting with crocs which would allow tourists to shoot them and employ Aborigines as guides.

Crocs are not endangered despite the claims of the tree huggers, it could help reduce the welfare dependency of Aborigines.

We should allow trophy hunting for crocs with cashed up tourists.

In principle yes, but is there much demand for hunting crocs?  They are impressive creatures, but they don't seem particularly elusive or difficult to hunt, but I guess that wouldn't mean much to canned hunters.

Zimbabwe is going to cull 200 lions where is the outrage over that?

Not many wealthy tourists willing to pay $50K a Lion since that Dentist was hounded from his place of work and home with death threats from peaceful animal lovers despite the fact he broke no laws.

Zimbabwe was getting $50,000 a Lion from wealthy tourists to shoot Lions they would have to cull anyway, now they have to shoot 200 of them for no money thanks to do gooding retarded leftists.

I guess there will be no outrage over the culling of these 200 lions since a black man will be shooting them, the retarded racist leftists are only outraged when white man shoots something.

First we need to establish what you mean by "morally superior". We haven't established that.

Personally I think you mean 'ethical superiority'.  A much more interesting  conversation anyway.

What are your thoughts on vegetarians/vegans who claim moral/ethical superiority over omnivores?

In what respect do they claim they have moral or ethical superiority?

What argument are you referring to? There are so many.

As I mentioned, I Byron Bay for a while which is fruit loop central and I've met heard countless diatribes on countless reasons why vegans are morally superior to meat eaters.
I once saw a group of ferals link hands around a fund raising BBQ and chant 'meat is murder meat is murder'. Good old Byron Bay :)

Simple question.
Did you choose vegetarianism for which of the following reasons:

A Dietary
B Environmental
C Moral
D Other - please state

Why would you ask me a question you knew nothing about?

Did you want me to educate you?

I've actually met a lot of the meat is murder crowd,  I'm curious if you're one of them.  Simple question.

I started being a vegetarian when I was 9 because I love animals but since making that decision, I have come across many reasons to validate my choice.

In principle yes, but is there much demand for hunting crocs?  They are impressive creatures, but they don't seem particularly elusive or difficult to hunt, but I guess that wouldn't mean much to canned hunters.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Unless, of course, the hunters are tackling the crocs without the aid of weapons.

People pay to kill tame lions lured with food.

Some people just want to kill things.

No. Most people don't approve of trophy hunting.

It has nothing to do with skin colour. Seriously.

A white hunter shoots a Lion and the leftists are butthurt with outrage, a black man has to cull 200 Lions in the same country and not a word from the racists who oppose white man hunting.

The Lions are going to be shot is it better for a poor country to charge $50K a lion or shoot them for nothing?

Borsak was in the news for shooting and eating an elephant he shot, Zimbabwe say they have double the sustainable population of elephants in some parks what are they supposed to do with them without upsetting the ignorant soy latte sipping inner city types?
in.reuters.com/article/zimbabwe-elephants-idINKBNOMG24K20150320

Trophy hunting is bad yet wearing leather or having handbags, purses, shoes, chairs, car interiors from leather is ok according to the hypocrites who dislike trophy hunting.

Hunting has been going in in Africa before you were born and will continue long after you die.

What are you arguing Baron?

You concede trophy hunting is bad but run all over the shop defending it.

Hunting a wild animal is vastly different to canned hunting in any event.

And shooting cross would be little more than that.

What thrill could a person get from that other than the joy of killing?

I agree. I've shot feral goats, pigs, bunnies and a few roos.
Of all those things I really only liked shooting bunnies because they're smaller, most plentiful and nice to eat and they die very very quickly.

Shooting crocs would be like sitting around in a boat waiting for a log to surface then shooting it.

I've got no problem with it.  Lefties can't seem to get their heads around the fact life eats life.

If they knew how many mammals and grind nesting birds are killed to provide their vegan diet, not to mention the indirect deaths from habitat clearing required to do so, they'd have quite a dilemma to face.

God that's a crap argument. More land is cleared for livestock and feed for livestock than there is for growing crops for humans.

More water is used too.

As for animals killed or displaced for growing crops, who is claiming to be impeccable ? The point is to find your own line and stick to it.

Minimising both suffering and your footprint is a good thing.

Not the case I'm afraid:

Quote:
In Australia 70% of the beef produced for human consumption comes from animals raised on grazing lands with very little or no grain supplements. At any time, only 2% of Australia’s national herd of cattle are eating grains in feed lots; the other 98% are raised on and feeding on grass. Two-thirds of cattle slaughtered in Australia feed solely on pasture.

Anyway, farm animals are off topic.

Wild game that was being culled anyway should absolutely be consumed.  I was gonna buy some kangaroo the other day and was horrified that it was $25/kg.  Crocodile was not a great meat - very rubbery when I had it, but that might just have been poor cooking.  I'd give it another try.  We should be utilising these unique resources much better than we do.

Eat more goats?, you've got to be kidding me  :D

There's a shitload of em, just running wild in the outback.   If I didn't have to go through such a song and dance to get a gun, I'd be eating them instead of paying for steak.

Get a coupla roos and a coupla goats on a long weekend, have them butchered and I've got meat for months.

Ah, yes.

A girlfriend of mine, during my vegetarian period, always used to bring that one up.

She was one of those arseholes, like Gordy, who would get all defensive when confronted by someone who doesn't eat meat.

Vegetarians just really bug some people. I think they feel challenged.

Gordy clearly does.

Vegans bug people even more.

Yes, Gordy is one of those arsholes that can't stand the thought of people not eating meat.

They get very defensive and aggressive, for no reason at all.

I probably eat more meat today than I've ever eaten in my life.

However, I truly believe that the fact that I was a vegetarian for 20 years, and the fact that I have not so much as a single polyp in my colon, is no coincidence.

Please show me were I've mentioned I dissaprove of vegetarianism,  particularly for dietary or environmental reasons? You're just making that up like you said I think gays are pedos.

Why do you think gays are pedos, Gordy?

I don't,  I've also participated in 2 Gay Mardi Gras.
You falsely accused me of saying that.

Pics, or it didn't happen.

I have originals with exif.

I've only eaten goat once.
It was stringy, tough and tasted ........ 'rangey'

I guess it could be cooked differently to improve it.

Goat curry is great.

I've also had a few goat meals at Jamaican restaurants - always good.

Borsak broke no laws what he did was 100% legal, the Greens MP who whinged about it does break laws.

Most Australian beef is grown on unirrigated land that is too poor for cropping.

We should allow trophy hunting for crocs with cashed up tourists.

In principle yes, but is there much demand for hunting crocs?  They are impressive creatures, but they don't seem particularly elusive or difficult to hunt, but I guess that wouldn't mean much to canned hunters.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Unless, of course, the hunters are tackling the crocs without the aid of weapons.

People pay to kill tame lions lured with food.

Some people just want to kill things.

No. Most people don't approve of trophy hunting.

It has nothing to do with skin colour. Seriously.

In the circumstances described above I think it is great. Instead of wiping out the natural ecosystem to grow food, the locals will see a more natural environment for the valuable asset it is.

you just haven't cooked it properly ... make a bolognaise sauce using pieces (not mince) of goat, on the bone, let it stew in the sauce on low all day (occasionally adding water so that it doesn't burn or dry out) and I guarantee it'll be the best bolognaise sauce you've EVER had.

Worlds most stupidest woman found inside crocodile ...

Police have recovered what are believed to be human remains from a crocodile that was removed from Cooper Creek on Friday afternoon.

At this stage, police believe the remains are those of a woman who was reported missing on May 29.

Police will be preparing a report for the coroner.

Wildlife officers captured and put down the 4.3 metre crocodile on Friday that was believed to have killed New Zealand-born tourist Cindy Waldron in far north Queensland.

The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) removed the estuarine crocodile from Cooper Creek, near Thornton Beach where Ms Waldron was taken on Sunday night, and euthanised the reptile.

'Wildlife officers believe the 4.3m crocodile is the target animal due to its size and location,' Queensland police said in a statement on Friday evening.

Not particularly elusive??  ;D

They are stealth predators.

That's why they can sneak up on their prey without being seen or heard until it's too late.

They are particularly elusive .... ask the NPWLS Officers that were here trying to catch/trap a 4.5 mtr croc.

It took them 18 months to catch the first one and the over a month to catch a second one sighted in the town reaches of the river.

Animals can be nearly impossible to hunt where they are frequently targeted. They learn. But if you go to a sufficiently remote location, there will be lots of them and they will be easy to hunt.

People will still pay a lot of money for the privilege, and crocs aren't as cute as lions so there is no risk of a cecil type incident ruining it.

A few years ago the QLD enviro department stupidly released a 3.5 metre croc near Townsville thinking that it would stay in the river they put it in, away from people. They had fitted a tracker on it to see where it went and what it was doing.

Well within a week or so, it went to Maggie Island and start hunting tourists, the island was basically shut down for 3 months while an A Team from the brisbane Enviro Dept made hunting a single tracked crocodile the most difficult task known to man.

The labor member from Cairns pointed out the crocs were a tourist attraction and we should be happy her government made Townsville a better place to visit. For some reason Cairns loikes to elect cretins from the labor party on a regular basis, who know fkk all about crocs or much else for that matter..
