Gay couple awarded compensation in sexual harassment case against Tasmanian neighbour

A Tasmanian couple say they are pleased they have been awarded $6,000 compensation for loss and injury in a sexual harassment case.

The Anti-Discrimination Tribunal investigated two complaints from Julian Punch and his partner Brian Doran against their Longley neighbour Ben King.

One complaint involved Mr King aggressively approaching and touching Mr Punch in March 2013.

In April of the following year, Mr King sexually harassed Mr Doran when the tribunal was yet to make its final determination on the first complaint.

The couple said the decision by Magistrate Glenn Hay was groundbreaking in protecting and defending the rights of same sex-couples to walk the streets safely with their dogs.

Mr Punch said he hoped the decision helped others in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community.

"It's a great decision. It's very good for both Brian and I. We've been enduring this for seven years and we've been trying to get redress for what happened and we're very concerned also for other members of our communities," he said.

Mr Punch said they resisted calls to move.

"Why should this sort of behaviour be tolerated? Be allowed? Certainly the police suggested that we move," he said.

"In this day and age, in this country, when people have got to move when they've been so violated - there's not much to living in that."

Magistrate Hay said both deserved compensation for loss and injury, with Mr King ordered to pay the couple $6,000 within 60 days.

The ABC has contacted Mr King for comment.

So it means that they are in fact taking immediate family to court.

When you add that the neighbor is being charged for "Touching" his neighbor/ brother/ first cousin.
And the fact that they are poop hole pokers.

It starts to get all a little silly.

And with a judge/ magistrate who is also probably also related, it gets downright absurd.

But I guess that what life is like in Tazzy.
After all any island that looks like a woman's pleasure center will have to be a little twisted.
