My ex, the tight Scottish b@stard, bought us a new car for a few hundred dollars. A Datsun 120Y. Mind you this was for me to ferry kids around in. We could afford a better car but he found a bargain so he went for it.
I spray painted it bougainvillea pink with a sparkly green bonnet and hood. It got defected. I got a Commodore. |

Usually driven by men with small penis' or butch women! Mainly hated for obstructing ones vision both on the roads and in car parks They should all be blown up! |

What about people who like putting big things in their car? I have a big softroader which lets me chuck my windsurfing gear and a SUP in the back, then after work if the wind's up I go for a blast, if not I go for a paddle. I'll always have a board of some kind in the car plus my work gear. I can also get 3 bikes in the back without frigging around with racks. |

Yeah, It's a bit rich (bloody stupid) to say that all 4WD enthusiasts are compensating for something. It's a question of utility. I'm very fussy about what I would drive on Fraser Island for example. I have pulled out a Great Wall and a Subaru among others over the years, although getting bogged usually is due to the driver. Many of these soft roaders come to grief pretty quickly. Even in a less harsh environment, I'd trust my Jeep or my Cruiser any day. |
|
Title: Re: homo cars Post by Redneck on Apr 14th, 2016 at 9:34am
How many 4WD are driven by 4WD enthusiasts?
For that matter how many never leave the city streets. The hardest bit of 4WDing they do is drive up a gutter or two. I realise that some people need to carry lots of stuff may need one, although a large station wagon would do as well. I just find them a bloody pain in the arse blocking ones view when backing out of car parks or at intersections etc. I suspect their are a lot of collisions indirectly caused by them obstructing peoples view at intersections |

Fair enough, but I live in a regional city where about 2 out of 3 vehicles are large SUVs. Here it's the norm, and most people here also use them for accessing good fishing spots and 4WD'ing. Judging from insurance premiums, I don't think we're more accident prone as a result. |

I wasnt suggesting that 4WD were more accident prone, I was suggesting there may be other vehicles involved in accidents as a result of having restricted vision at intersections being in lanes adjacent to the big 4WD, as one cant even see over their bloody bonnets. |

4WD's are actually pretty hopeless at carrying stuff in the cabin. All the height you see on the outside is wasted on underbody clearance and poor cabin design. You will fit more in a good station wagon. Plus, you can put roof-racks on a station wagon without making it roll over if you do more than 10km/hr round a corner. |

SUVs are just the new version of the wagon, but better. Mines got 7 seats. The back two get used a few times a year but fold flat so don't even know they're there until I need them. All seats fold flat so I can fit a hippo in he back if I need to. It's high enough so when I get into it, I don't make any pain induced grunting noises from my windsurfing and snow boarding destroyed knees and don't have to listen to wife and daughter say, oh daddy don't make groaning noises'. It's got selectable FWD,AWD or 4WD lock, goes like stink and only uses 10L/100km in retarded Sydney traffic. Makes a Falcodore Wagon look like a horse and buggy. |

That's why my other car is a Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 with quadra-lift. If you don't need the extra height, you can adjust it down instantly. The diesel is also very economical. I get 7.5l/100km on long highway drives, which is not bad for a vehicle that size. The downsides are that dealer service is woeful, and they had a lot of toothing problems. I do a lot of 4WD'ing, but if you don't, a softroader is fine. I used to have a Ford Territory. Just bring your own extraction kit if you ever take it on the beach. You'll need it. |

I can't imagine why station wagons aren't as popular as they used to be. I drive one and I have been surprised at how much you can fit ini it. They carry just as much if not more than an SUV, and they drive like a car rather than a small truck. There still are a few of them out there on the market. |

I love station wagons. We went out to the Dig Tree in a falcon wagon. Had it set up so we could sleep in it if we had to. It carried all our camping gear in the comfort and economy of a sedan. We slept in it a few times. to do that sort of trip, you have to be self reliant if need be. A 4WD is not required. More space is, more than a fourby. |
