SENIOR Labor MPs have revealed plans were being hatched two months ago to mount a challenge to Bill Shorten over fears that Malcolm Turnbull would “wipe out” the Opposition.

Those plots, however, have since been shelved with two polls putting Labor back in contention and a third this week putting Labor in front for the first time since Mr Turnbull rolled Tony Abbott for the leadership.

Senior shadow cabinet members close to Mr Shorten had made the Labor leader aware of “rumblings” that suggested the NSW Right might be moving behind the Left’s Anthony Albanese.

Strange as it may seem but Shorten is probably more at risk now as the polls turn in
labors favour.
They might think getting rid of Shorten may be just what is required to get them over the line
