Belgian ambassador labels Malcolm Turnbull’s comments linking refugee crisis with Brussels attacks as ‘dangerous’

The Belgian Ambassador to Australia has labelled Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s comments as “dangerous”, after he linked the European refugee crisis with the deadly Brussels terror attacks.

During a speech at the Lowy Institute yesterday, Mr Turnbull speculated the Islamic State (ISIL) is taking advantage of the crisis to sneak extremists into Europe.

“The attacks in Brussels are an unfortunate reminder of how Islamist extremism appears to have reached a crisis point in Europe,” he said.

“Recent intelligence indicates ISIL is using the refugee crisis to send operatives into Europe.”

In response to the speech Belgium’s Ambassador to Australia, Jean-Luc Bodson, warned against linking the two problems.

“It’s dangerous because it’s precisely what (ISIL) wants – that we would make a confusion between terrorism and migrants and between terrorism and Islam,” he told ABC News.

Mr Bodson went on to say that it was his belief the terrorists behind the Brussels and Paris attacks were Europe born, not migrants.

“(They) are European-raised and born. Maybe from foreign origins, but they are Europeans.

“So it has nothing to do with the refugee crisis and I think that is the main danger to assimilate that.”

It's abundantly clear that the Belgian Ambassador to Australia is completely clueless when it comes to the tactics of ISIL. It's a widely accepted fact that some of those terrorists involved in the deadly Paris attacks were able to get into France by posing as refugees fleeing from Syria. For the Belgian Ambassador to Australia to say that there is "confusion between terrorism and migrants and between terrorism and Islam" just proves not only how hopelessly clueless he is, but also how much he doesn't want to face the facts.

All mosques in Australia should be legislated so that Imams must give their services in English. There is one leading Imam in Sydney who does exactly that. His reason? This is Australia, not the Middle East and as such, most people here speak English and so he insists on his services being conducted in English. Look at the Grand Mufti, an Egyptian who came here 20-odd years ago. He still can't speak a word of English. This is part of the problem with young Muslims being radicalised - they aren't assimilating with our culture.

The average person has no idea what is said when services are given in Arabic. But besides the security aspect, I think it would be worthwhile for all new citizens and immigrants to learn English so that they can properly assimilate with the people of this country, don't you?
