In recent times I've spoken to not ONE, not TWO, not THREE, but FOUR middle aged women in my neighbourhood who live alone and wouldn't DREAM of taking on another man in their life now that they've tasted life as single, independent women.

I was surprised by the strength of their antipathy towards the idea of getting hitched again.

(PS. Make it FIVE - I've just thought of another one).

We've also had a few fems here who've declared they would never live with another man again.

WHAT does this all mean?

Neferti has turned up - so I'm expecting some intelligent, experienced, and wise comments from her on this subject.

I really WAS surprised by the reaction these FIVE ladies I know had when I asked them if they would ever consider getting married again. Not ONE of them told me why not .. and I was too polite to ask.

Perhaps that is why they are single.

They are all ex-married singles.

And let's be honest here - the VAST majority of women do not like sex after having the third child, but go along with it in a perfunctory sort of way just to get the Old Man off their back, so to speak. (I could have phrased that a little better).

And so, through divorce or early death of the husband, the woman finds herself highly relieved that she's no longer obliged to suffer his annoying 'attentions' in the bedroom.

Hence, when I asked FIVE women living alone in my neighbourhood about how they feel about getting a new partner - they ALL, with raised voices, said "NO SHAGGING WAY, MATE! - AND YOU CAN PUT THAT BACK IN YOUR PANTS - AAAAARSEHOOOOOLE!!!"

Well, they didn't have to be so rude, but one has to live in hope, doesn't one? 8-) Hmmmm ... ?

so true so right...

women are far more independent than men will ever be...its the men that want to get another partner..

when you are older your values change...sex is one of the least things you get married for....unless thats all you think about...which I guess is the case with some folks..

a dear friend who married for the second time over 20 years ago... is now basically his carer.... her life is all about him...and no I dont think shes happy.

There are plenty of men who take the same option and won't re-marry after divorce or their partner dying.

And plenty of men who are their ailing/disabled wife/partners carer.

Women don't have a monopoly on that situation.
