Title: Meet The Millionaires Paying No Tax
Post by Sir Crook on Mar 22nd, 2016 at 6:02am
Tax stats. Meet the 56 millionaires who pay next to nothing   :(

Date
    March 21, 2016
    The Age

Paying tax has become optional for 56 of Australia's highest earners. Newly-released tax statistics show each of the 56 paid next to no income tax in 2013–14, not even the Medicare Levy, even though each earned more than $1 million.   :o

But escaping tax cost the millionaires dearly. The same document shows 27 of the 56 claimed a combined $46.7 million for the "cost of managing tax affairs", around $1.7 million each.

The Tax Office says "cost of managing tax affairs" includes the cost of preparing and lodging tax returns, the fees paid to recognised tax advisors, the cost of court appeals and interest charges imposed in relation to tax disputes.

All but two of the 56 high earners paid no income tax at all.

Combined, the 56 earned $128.6 million, around $2.3 million each.

The claims for the cost of managing tax affairs are so big in relation to their reported incomes as to raise suspicions that at least some had access to extra income they did not report.

Each of the 56 managed to drive their taxable incomes down below the $18,200 tax-free threshold. Fifty-one managed to drive their taxable incomes down below $6000. Forty-three reported taxable incomes of zero. Eight reported combined losses of $19.3 million.

Fifteen claimed a combined $21 million for gifts or donations to charities and political parties, equating to $1.4 million each. Three claimed deductions for uniforms or clothing, amounting to $150 each. Seven claimed deductions for interest payments, amounting to a combined $4 million.

Nine had been unsuccessful farmers, carrying forward previous losses of $6 million. Four had been unsuccessful in other businesses, bringing forward previous losses of $18.1 million. Seventeen had sold assets at a loss, carrying forward capital losses of $28.2 million. Five negatively geared, losing between them $240,000 in rent.

All but two paid no income tax at all. One paid $3603, the other was asked to pay just $4.

Millionaires weren't the only high-income Australians who managed to bring their taxable incomes down below the tax-free threshold. Another 117 high earners taking home between $500,000 and $1 million managed to drive their taxable incomes below the $18,200 tax-free threshold, paying no tax. They paid a combined $15 million to manage their tax affairs.

Another 2305 Australians earning between $100,000 and $500,000 succeeded in bringing their taxable incomes below the tax-free threshold in order to pay no tax. Between them they made $420 million. After deductions they lost a combined $38.2 million. They spent $47.9 million managing their tax affairs and lost $16.2 million negatively gearing.

The figures show 1.26 million Australians negatively geared during 2013–14, around 1 in every 10 taxpayers. A further 707,000 rented properties for profit. The negative gearers lost $12 billion between them, roughly double the $6.7 billion made by landlords who rented for profit.

The average wage or salary income in 2013-14 was $56,690. The highest taxable incomes, averaging $200,015, were found in the Sydney postcode of 2027, which takes in Darling Point, Edgecliff, Rushcutters Bay and Point Piper in the Prime Minister's electorate of Wentworth. The second-highest average taxable incomes of $167,407 were in the Melbourne postcode of 3142, which takes in Hawksburn and Toorak.

a correct thinking rightard should pay tax as his life should be about a "sense of contribution"

also, according to my universal law

All the good that you create, will be attacked, unless you defend it...well...jet fighters cost money.

Leftards hating on the rich though is coming from a place of low consciousness.

leftards should be trying very hard to become millionaires so that they too can move from parasite mode to contribution mode

these rich people...yes.
most rich people though have ground it out and realise that its the journey and the sense of contribution that brings true satisfaction.
i would consider extreme tax avoidance as an OCD focused on money and that is most distasteful

being a lowlife addicted to drugs is very very low consciousness living.

hopefully you can move up to the next level and be addicted to tv and the internet

then you can move to the next level of consciousness and be addicted to women and money.

some people get stuck there.

its still a higher level of consciousness tehn being a drunk or pot head on welfare but there are more levels to climb.

you should come to a realisation that no woman  and no ammount of assets will make you truly fulfilled.

so, if keeping all your money is that important to you, you have stopped growing.

you have failed to understand paradox.

you could even reach spiritual  enlightenment by studying the bible at this point.

the more you give, the more you recieve.(as Jesus said)

you could reach spiritual enlightnement by watching Walt Disney movies and the story of "scrooge mcduck"

Either way, to be attached to money or houses is just to have your ego attached to form and this is still low consciousness living.

you have stopped growing and stopped improving if you think like that.

better to be seeking to be a contributor, maybe as a mentor to other people.

like i am trying to mentor sir crook at this very moment ;) ;)

Horses will teach you much about business, relationships and mindfulness.
you cannot ride safely without mastering your emotions.
show fearfulness and bad things happen.

you cannot develop a good relationship with family friends or staff without having very good boundaries, very good assertiveness and absolute consistency.

it is almost impossible for someone on the dole, on grog or drugs , on the internet or social media , to progress in life. It just isnt going to happen.

People think that success is just something that happens to some people.
they think success in the workforce or success in a relationship is a matter of luck and that there isnt much they can do about it.

When the americans decided to try to 'successfully" go to the moon, did they just leave it to luck?
Did they just try to cobble something together?

They put enormous effort into studying working maths science , trying and failing and being very persistent.

This is how success is built....it is a conscious decision.

these rich guys not paying tax, have been "partially successful"

What often happens though is that successes can lead to loss of drive and then to ultimate failure.

In fact several books have been written on how success will lead to failure for most people.
one need only look at the way many rock stars lose their mojo once they become successful.

So my message to these rich guys would be to get back on track , maybe start a philanthropic pursuit and rekindle the fire that got them the success in the first place.  Dont just be focused on the $$. Your're better then that

You need emotional mastery.
You should not associate with the right side of politics when you are so emotional.
You give us a bad name.

The AGE sucking in the clueless True Believers with their repeat stories...

How many times has this been published?

So these 'rich' individuals didn't pay any income tax in 2013-14? Boo hoo.

To reduce their taxable incomes they must have experienced some pretty bad losses?

How much tax did they pay the year before, or over their entire working lives, compared to the average person?

Trash reporting.  Wedge politics.  :(

The second-highest average taxable incomes of $167,407 were in the Melbourne postcode of 3142, which takes in Hawksburn and Toorak.

did you mis this IMFULLOFIT?  the bit about how they had substantial losses that were being brought forward?

Missed the charitable donations as well. Really, why are people complaining about others looking to reduce their tax liability. With over 6 1/2 thousand pages of direct tax legislation and another 80 thousand in explanatory notes and case files is it any wonder that the lawyers and bean counters have field days. Look at the cause rather than the effect.

This is coming from a place of lower consciousness.

the unsuccessful are always at the effect.
life is something that "happens' to them.

it is threatening to your ego to hear this wisdom.

you must either do the easy thing...get angry

recognise the wisdom and change your ways.

most people choose the easy thing and this is sad

Wisdom, horseboy neighs. Other end of the horse is more appropriate, horseboy. Horse poop. I have done some psychology, you are talking pure, unadulterated shyte.

If you have done psychology , you would understand the concept of "ego-preservation"
The ego tries to preserve  YOU and YOUR SELF IMAGE.
The ego is dishonest.
It wont tell you the truth.

You look at a guy like Gates and the truth is, he started in a garage, he's worked super hard and he's become super successful.

Now on a logical level, you should find this story an inspiration.
But that would be a hit to YOUR ego as you would have to admit, YOU are mediocre and someone , who started with nothing has accomplished SO MUCH.

the easiest thing to do (for your own ego) is to hate on the successful.
Virtually all successful people have lots of haters.

Even tom hanks ( the guy who played forrest gump) gets death threats from haters.

Those in low animal consciousness will always hate the successful .

List of horse accidents
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of people and fictional characters who had severe injuries, or died from accidents related to horses. Some of the listed accidents had important political and historical consequences, which are given when relevant.   :(

Celebrities   :(

Holbrook Blinn (1872-1928), Broadway stage star & silent screen actor, died from injuries in an accident on the grounds of his estate.
Maureen Connolly (1934-1969), tennis star, career ended in 1954 by injuries suffered in a collision between her horse and a truck.
Malcolm Baldrige (1922 – 1987), American politician and United States Secretary of Commerce from 1981 until his death in 1987, from internal injuries sustained in a rodeo accident, when the horse he was riding fell on him during a calf-roping competition.
Roy Kinnear (1934-1988), British character actor, bled to death due to a broken pelvis sustained in a fall from a horse.
Cole Porter (June 9, 1891 – October 15, 1964) American composer and songwriter. In a 1937 riding accident his legs were crushed leaving him in chronic pain, largely crippled. (According to a biography by William McBrien and oral history by Brendan Gill.) His right leg was amputated in 1958 as a result of the injury.
Christopher Reeve (1952-2004), actor, paralyzed on May 27, 1995 from the neck down following a fall from his horse while riding cross-country in a 3-day event.
Kazu Makino In 2002 the singer suffered an accident falling from a horse; in the accident, the horse trampled her jaw and crushed her facial bones, which required massive reconstructive surgery

Historical figures   :(

According to this legend, romanticised by Alexander Pushkin in his celebrated ballad "The Song of the Wise Oleg," it was prophesied by the pagan priests that Oleg of Novgorod (? - 912) would take death from his stallion. Proud of his own foretelling abilities, he sent the horse away. Many years later he asked where his horse was, and was told it had died. He asked to see the remains and was taken to the place where the bones lay. When he touched the horse's skull with his boot a snake slithered from the skull and bit him. If you give enough to registered charities you wont pay either

a rich Australian retiree does not have to pay tax either, as I have posted before.

In 2007 the then Prime Minister John Howard introduced the tax-free super for the over sixties, if the super income comes from a so-called taxed fund.
As a result :

This is how the retirees are treated in Australia.
Retiree: 1)
Worked for 45 years and paid taxes, but did not accumulate enough assets to be completely independent of the age-pension. For every dollar of extra income for him and his wife above $6,500, the couple loses $0.50 of age pension, and if their income exceeds $45,000 per annum, the couple will pay tax of $0.315 in the dollar including medicare levy, leaving them with an income of $0.185 from every dollar extra income. For the defined benefit income a 10% tax-offset applies if paid from an Australian super fund, but not if the income comes from an overseas fund.
Retiree 2)
Has accumulated assets of $1.5million,mostly with huge tax concessions, and the assets are in a so-called taxed Self Managed Super Fund. To be very conservative, the assets are in a term deposit earning 7.0% income of $122,500 per annum and even if the retiree is single, he/she will not pay a cent of tax.
Now if the assets are in fully franked shares, like banks, and return $100,000 worth of franked dividends, he/she will again pay no tax on the dividend, and the government will send him/her a cheque of $30,000 for the franking credits.
Should the assets of these retirees fall below a certain level, they will be entitled to the age pension as anyone else, therefore why does the government provides the rich retirees with such huge tax concessions, while punishing the retirees at the lower income scale with the punitive means-test of the age pension?
Retiree 3)
Is an ex-politician or highly paid public servant, in receipt of a defined benefit pension of $100,000, on which he/she will have to pay tax, but he/she gets a 10% tax offset, which equals $10,000 after reaching retirement age, but before retiring, the public servant can establish a SMSF and contribute into it extra with tax concessions if the $25,000 total for under fifty and $50,000, if over fifty is not exceeded and in addition he/she can contribute $150,000 from after tax income, and the earnings from the SMSF will only attract 15% tax, and when the person reaches the age of 60 even the income will be completely tax-free for the SMSF.
Retiree’s 2) are well represented by the media and the super industry, as well as the Unions, and retiree’s 3) are represented by the government, and ironically by the leadership of various retiree Associations, like ACPSRO and its affiliated Associations,Acoss,COTA, but who represents retiree’s 1) the part- pensioners who are being robbed of a decent standard of living in retirement by the means-test of the age pension.
What is the fairest solution; scrap the mean test of the age pension and scrap all tax concessions for super.
Will the government change anything, as long as the above mentioned Associations support the government; never.
.
Is there any other country which treats its citizens in such a discriminatory manner?
I would like to refer you to two recent articles;
1st) AFR ,Dec 8-9. 2012 by Brian Toohey, “Compulsory super makes little sense.
2nd)AFR 13.Feb 2013 by Alison Kahler, “Don’t put super over the national good.
3rd) AFR 21.March “Call to scale back super tax breaks” by Sally Patten.
Recently there was a lot written about changes in super, which now seems to have disappeared, because the super industry and the Unions seem to be secure that the government will not make any drastic changes to the tax concessions for super.
Last year, a record number of Australians travelled to other countries, a drain on the Australian economy, and many of the travellers were probably self-funded retirees, who benefit enormously from the tax concessions for super.

Oleg died, thus fulfilling the prophecy.
King Afonso I of Portugal (1109-1185), was severely injured in a fall from a horse in 1167 during a battle; he was captured and as ransom, Portugal had to surrender to Castile all conquests made in Galicia in the previous years; they were never again recovered.

i am not a reactive person leftwinger.
Sorry, i consider myself better then that.
One has to break free of social conditioning to accomplish anything in life.
Part of that unshackling is the realisation that the approval of other people counts for nothing.
As long as you are on course with your life, then there is nothing that anyone can give you that is of value, nothing by way of agreeing with you.
To try to get approval from social groupthink is very low consciousness. ;) ;)

I am saving up out of my dole to buy a horse. Your my hero Aqua. ;D ;D ;D

Your're better then that

shut up about horses.  concentrate on people and you might actually get a relationship with one

;D

I have an excellent eco-system of good relationships.
inter-dependant relationships, not co-dependant. ;)

as I said... single.

in a mutually interdependant relationship with my beautiful lead mare  ;)

if you wanted to sound creepy and potentially illegal, thats the way to do it.
