Title: Turnbull government tax slug plan
Post by The Mechanic on Mar 15th, 2016 at 6:44am

Quote:
Cigarettes could rise to $40 a packet under Turnbull government tax slug plan

THE price of a packet of cigarettes could soon soar to $40 if the Turnbull government copies a Labor plan to help pay for income tax cuts by slugging smokers.

A senior government source confirmed to the Herald Sun that a proposal to increase the tobacco excise in the May Budget would be taken to the Expenditure Review Committee.

It is understood Treasury has already costed various options and Labor has claimed that its proposed tobacco excise increase would raise $47 billion in revenue over 10 years.

the only policy Turncoat has had in 6 months and its a Labor Policy...  ;D ;D ;D

Income tax cuts?  Did someone mention income tax cuts?

OH - he meant the ages-old restoration of income parity by performing a bracket creep removal operation (a creepectomy - not to be confused with a creepivivisection, which is the dissection of a creep), so that the middle ranges aren't slugged at the highest rate...

Why not introduce honesty in government and index bracket creep so that the middle incomes remain within that range rather than becoming 'rich' overnight despite escalating costs of living?  (**commits the cardinal sin according to the child university essay markers and does what the New England Journal of Medicine does.. starts with one of them wrong words**)  Although doing so would cut out any chance of 'giving' income tax cuts (a taxectomy - not to be confused with a taxedermy, which involves surgically skinning the taxpayer), and would thus not be a 'good move' politically.

Bit too socialist, I suppose.... ;D ;D ;D  ::)

Did you see that episode of 'Yes, Prime Minister' about getting rid of tobacco for the health of the nation?

Mr. Turnbull is nice man who was unfortunate that his parents separated when he was only nine, with Mr. Turnbull's mother leaving for United States falling in love and married an American man. Turnbull was then raised by his father.
Poor Malcolm he suffered so much as a boy without his mom.

"When he was opposition leader in 2009, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull championed a higher tobacco excise to help fund private health insurance rebates."

It's actually a Turnbull policy from 2009.

He cannot do much reform, because the ultra conservatives in the party keeps on making trouble for him.   See, he wanted an ETS, change the negative gearing, capital gains tax, and looking at super tax concession.   But alas it was not possible.    And you can only cut the spending so much before people start to yell:  Malcolm = Abbott the second.

The real problem is however, instead of being seen as Malcolm in the middle, he is beginning to look like Malcolm stuck in the middle.   And thats a danger.

more like Malc slipping further to the left....he is a fake Lib...always was... a divider sadly...hes not a team player...its all about me.... ..

he wanted the top job...now hes got it.....well thats all he ever wanted to be SEEN at the top..to be PM...so he snatched it...now like the dog with the car.. he doesnt know what to do with it...

if libs are waiting for him to act and produce some new policies ... they could be waiting a long time..

.but hes what they wanted.. ::)

so likewise with shortarse

you make your bed   you then have to lay in it...

because you are stuck with them

no matter what they do its going to be painful....and serve them right...

with luck both parties will find a huge backlash....and the INFORMAL vote will send a big message to everyone of them...

dont ever  take us for granted again..
