Title: gossip about SAVVA
Post by cods on Mar 10th, 2016 at 9:32am

a funny thing happened on the way to the publishers.. ;D ;D

Quote:
Credlin is the target of journalist Niki Savva, who obsessively attacked her as a columnist on The Australian and now savages her in her book, The Road to Ruin, purporting to explain why the Abbott government fell.

Quote:

But there’s more. Six years ago Savva wrote another book in which she confessed that “as a journalist I lied often, usually about my sources, but about other things, too”.

She admitted she had a rule that politicians were either sources or targets and that “I learned to slice and dice anyone who … spoke to others and not me”.

Quote:
They knew Savva was no friend. As Savva wrote in 2010, she was even then keeping a “loser’s file” of cuttings on Abbott, someone from whom she’d “recoiled in horror at the prospect of (being) leader”.

sounds like savva has a bigger reason for this book and having it released NOW..

at least we knew Mark Latham was a bitter soul...

this person pretends to be impartial...at least isnt that what a journo is meant to be?..

Savva has done no more or less than several newscorp opinion writers and shock jocks did and still do to people associated with the Gillard government.

You cheered then, acted as if their thoughts & OPINIONS were gospel.

Now apparently you want ethics in journalism, a clear distinction between fact & rumour/opinion.

Funny, when Gillard called for that we had Gestapo pictures all over a certain papers front page, & again Cods you cheered the loudest.

Sucks to be you hey?

I look forward to your proof of above ;)

You have been following this story closely I see, have you read the book?

I haven't, but I have seen reviews from people that have, Abbott's & Credlin's supposed sex life actually equals about 2 & a half sentences by their reports.

Which begs the question, are we so debased that ANY innuendo amuses us plebs & therefore is the only thing focused on.

Or is the rest of the book a damming tomb of incompetence that supporters in the media & others such as yourself here hope we are that shallow & never move past dicks & tits.

Savva's credentials are impeccable, a political correspondent for over 30 years employed & published in some of Australia's most respected journals.

In fact she was so respected by one Tony Abbott he often sent her texts, this is of course whilst she was being critical of the Gillard government.
However once those critical eyes turned to Tones in government suddenly she's a hack, rather than shrewd.

Quote:
"Abbott would text reasonably frequently to say, 'Good column, very shrewd observations'."

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/niki-savva-how-journalist-went-from-conservative-darling-to-abbott-she-devil-20160307-gnc6vl.html#ixzz42SPDEAmu

The "informers" are named

Quote:
One senator, Connie Fierraventi-Wells, bravely approached Abbott and Ms Credlin over what many believed was a major issue for his public image, and for the government, Savva’s book reveals.
“Politics is about perceptions,” Savva quotes Ms Fierraventi-Wells as saying.
“Rightly or wrongly, the perception is that you are sleeping with your chief of staff. That’s the perception, and you need to deal with it.”

No, but perception is everything especially in politics, from the author you all wish to think solely is focused on sexual innuendo

Quote:
One former staffer compared their relationship to that of King Edward III and American socialite Wallis Simpson, who were famously “slavishly dependent” on each other.

“This was not meant to imply an affair; it was meant to describe the depth of the dependence, the consuming obsession, and what Abbott was prepared to sacrifice for it,” Savva wrote.

“Like King Edward VIII, who gave up his throne because he could not do the job without Wallis by his side, Abbott had convinced himself he could not do it without Credlin. Ultimately, it cost him the highest office in the land.”

They both seemed to agree Abbott could not perform as prime minister without Ms Credlin by his side.
In the end, they went down together.

But let's keep the focus on dicks

Since Edward III died in 1377, Mrs Simpson must have been incredibly old when she finally passed in 1986.

Fierravanti-Wells has even confirmed that she indeed had this conversation with Tony Abbott. Really, what has Savva done that is so awful. Seriously, we all know why Abbott fell on his sword without reading Savva's book.

Yes, that is true for Edward VIII. The original transcript is out by 5 Edwards. Edward III and Mrs Simpson lived 600 years apart.

It doesn't change the meaning at all. Savva never claimed it as fact. She only made note that Fierravanti-Wells spoke to the PM regarding the subject. She spoke the truth.

So "Fierravanti-Wells has even confirmed that she indeed had this conversation with Tony Abbott". Does it change its meaning from perceptions to fact?

I'm not understanding your line of thought.

No one has said Abbott & Credlin WERE having an affair, so no facts are involved or needed.

The actual facts are that their relationship was so intertwined that it could be perceived they were, Cods implied it was gossip with no source or basis in fact & I pointed out that it was not an unnamed rumour but a piece of history confirmed with a name & actual quote from source.

The "fact" is they were perceived to be sleeping together, not if the actually were or not.

But hey let's keep playing word semantics because as Cods said this is a thread on the credentials of Savva.

Quote:
Savva has worked as a correspondent in the Canberra Press Gallery, for The Australian newspaper and for the Herald Sun and The Age. She's also worked as the Washington correspondent for News Ltd. She now writes for The Australian and appears regularly as a panelist on ABC Insiders.[1]

She worked as press secretary to the Australian Treasurer, Peter Costello in the Howard Government, for six years, before working on Prime Minister John Howard's staff for three.[2]

Savva is married to Vince Savva, a Liberal political staffer in the office of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.[3]

They seem pretty solid to me.

I gather you have read her book....

on ly two lines... are they the two lines that tell us the names of the informers????..... ::) ::)

just wondering...]

I’m reading the book now, dear. Witnesses are all on the record.

Savva is not alleging an affair. She tells two stories about the intimacy between Abbott and Credlin: one, where he slaps her on the bottom and they have a giggle; two, the incident in the resturant, where Credlin feeds Abbott her food with her fork and rests her head on his shoulder.

The only mention of an affair is the Liberal senator, Connie Fierravanti-Wells, confronting Abbott with her concerns about the party’s perception. Abbott and Credlin are not coming out to defend rumours by Savva, but rumours from within their own party.

Having read this, I’m not in a position to know whether an affair took place at all. Savva says this too. Her book is not about an affair, but Abbott’s dependency on a woman who a majority of his party hated. Savva’s argument, shared by all the senior Liberal politicians she quotes, is that Abbott chose Credlin over the leadership. The backbenchers were clear after the first revolt: Credlin goes, or Abbott goes. Abbott told many of them he simply couldn’t do it. Abbott believed he couldn’t lead without Credlin.

And this is Savva’s point. Rumours about an affair are irrelevant. Abbott couldn’t govern without Credlin managing almost everything. He couldn’t travel overseas without her, and he looked lost without Credlin by his side in meetings.

This isn’t evidence of Abbott cheating on his wife, it’s evidence that our former prime minister could not stand on his own two feet. Fair enough - no man is an island. Abbott, however, gave the role of governing not to an elected official, cabinet or committee, but to a staffer.

And not just any old staffer, but one who bullied and micro-managed Abbott’s own colleagues. She even bullied Abbott himself. For some unknown reason, he tolerated it.

Whether this is evidence of an affair or not is trivial. It’s evidence of the government - and our system of governing - being undermined by an unelected control-freak. More importantly, it’s evidence of the prime minister himself being too weak to stop it, and too arrogant to listen to his colleagues - those elected officials we did vote for.

This is far more important than whether Abbott and Credlin were having an affair. Whether Abbott f cked Credlin is superfluous. She f cked him.

And ultimately, they both f cked us all.

I think it says more about Abbott being his own man rather than a puppet ... get rid of Peta yes just for appearance sake.. but give turnbull a lift up NO WAY...we are seeing what a  pathetic PM he is.. gawd if he had been made treasurer....stumble stumble...hes a ditherer....

give me a break... in hindsight I am sure most people would not repeat something in their lives that gives them heartburn.... but its all too late...

I know, Mechanic. Unbelievable. A book.

I’ll put it away and read about it in Bolt’s column. Better yet, maybe you can provide some insight and I’ll read that.

I’m always keen to hear from sharp, unbiased political analysts, dear.

You must love bouncing around in an echo chamber.

Oddly, that rings a bell..... lemme think now...

Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?

Howard told Abbott to dump Hockey and make Turnbull treasurer and he also told him to dump Credlin, but we all know Abbott thinks with his old fella not his brain.
As for your rant about Turnbull when you put up a screen shot of your voting slip with the Liberals below Labor we might believe your  disgust. ::)
You're the epitome of someone that shoots the messenger.

Do you think Hamlet would've tripled the budget deficit as treasurer instead of just doubling it like sloppy joe?
