Why did everyone criticise Howard Sattler for spreading rumours about Gillard's partner being a fag, but not everyone loves it when rumours are spread about Abbott committing infidelity? Where is the criticising and sacking of Niki Savva?

Personally I don't think it matters.... what matters to me is that TA was a merchant of dirt on people, and a sneaky, low-down rodent, as the Hanson affair (Hansongate?) showed, and was not remotely PM material, but handed the plum spot for 'services to the party in back-stabbing'.

Leadership? A charming Eisenhower could carry off talking with tough paratroopers before D-Day - Tony came across as an outsider clown trying to get inside by talking what he thought was the talk....

As Laura Tingle said, the affair scandal is a distraction - and quite frankly a welcome one as far as both Credlin and Abbott are concerned. That is why Credlin is now talking that particular aspect of the story up now - and being conspicuously silent on what a bitch she was to her staff and MPs - and how she almost single-handedly drove a wedge between Abbott and the rest of his government. yes its quite telling how she isn't saying anything to defend herself on that front - because she can't.

Her book’s quite good though. I’m reading it as we speak. Peta Credlin sounds like a true warrior of the right, just like Mr Abbott says. We need more of these in politics. I have no idea why there’s so few in parliament.

It was known that she had an affair with married Craig Emerson.
Crean had to tell them to knock it off.

I read the book. There is no doubt Savva is on the money. She literally quotes a host of former staffers and politicians not afraid to put their names to it. Many of them loyal to Abbott for years previous to Credlin.

Savva had an axe to grind, but Credlin being Credlin made so it easy for her.

One of the most interesting ones was from Peter Reith. John Howard suggested to Abbott to support Reith for President. So Abbott went to Reith and told him he would support him. Just before the ballot Reith had heard rumours, so he confronted Abbott who re-affirmed his support. So Reith stands against Stockdale. When Abbott votes, he does a public act of showing Stockdale his voting slip as a way of saying "I voted for you". Reith loses. Reith said later about Abbott, "He just lied to me."

The background to the story was that Credlin thought Reith as federal Liberal party president would undermine her husband Liberal federal director Brian Loughnane. But Abbott didn't just turn on Reith, he publicly humiliated him.

Exactly. This sort of nonsense shouldn’t be written in the first place. The slurs of infidelity pale in comparison to the other things this book goes into. Scullduggery, leaking, political assassination, policy ineptitude and almost complete government paralysis. I mean, really.

Not like Shortens rape case where he was investigated or Pilbeserks hubby who spent time in the slammer for for dealing heroin and was later caught with X pills.

After repeal of the carbon tax. Mr Abbott go on to $2 billion dollars on his own 'direct action' - aka giving away tax money to big corporations by means of 'environmental contract'. Which comes to about $100 per every man woman and child. So much for $550 of savings.
