Title: The most Potent Green House Gas on Earth..??
Post by Ajax on Mar 3rd, 2016 at 9:16pm
If we leave water vapour out of the equation, it seems CO2 is the clear winner taking up about 73% of the green house effect.

If we add water vapour into the equation then water vapour becomes the dominant and most potent green house gas at 95%.

All the other greenhouse gases including CO2 only account for 4% of the greenhouse effect.

Water vapour is responsible for 95% of the green house effect.

After all we do live on a planet who's surface is covered 70% water.

CO2 in the atmosphere is a measly 0.004%

Absolutely correct.
If it wasn't for the greenhouse effect our planet would be too cold to live on.

But we are talking about global WARMING. Water vapour doesn't accumulate in the atmosphere (it falls out as rain and snow) so it won't cause the earth to get any warmer.

CO2 on the other hand DOES accumulate in the atmosphere, so it will gradually cause warming. Sure, CO2 is a trace gas, and that is why this warming is happening gradually over decades.

So Ajax, once again your argument is terminally flawed.

CO2 can remain in the atmosphere for thousands of years

Quote:
Between 65% and 80% of CO2 released into the air dissolves into the ocean over a period of 20–200 years. The rest is removed by slower processes that take up to several hundreds of thousands of years, including chemical weathering and rock formation. This means that once in the atmosphere, carbon dioxide can continue to affect climate for thousands of years.

H2O remains in the atmosphere for only hours or days

Quote:
Water vapour is a very effective absorber of heat energy in the air, but it does not accumulate in the atmosphere in the same way as the other greenhouse gases. This is down to it having a very short atmospheric lifetime, of the order of hours to days, because it is rapidly removed as rain and snow.

Well we agree on something.

Oh it doesn't hey, have you ever seen a picture of the Earth from space, its always covered with clouds.

CO2 has a life span of about 5 years or so, I see the wool can be pulled over your eyes very easily, you seem to accept any dribble that comes from the IPCC.

Mt argument is flawed or you believe anything...???

BS.

Look into our history numnuts, that's the quickest way to dispel your worries about CO2.

More like about 5 years and there is nothing wrong with what we're doing.

We are just converting CO2 from one phase to another from the whole.

Its not as though we are introducing more CO2 from mars or the moon, we are just modifying what already exists on the Earth as a whole.

But while it does rain elsewhere new clouds and water vapour are being formed.

Water vapour is about 4% of the atmosphere.

CO2 is about 0.04% of the atmosphere.

That's a big difference if you can add.

CO2 doesn't stay in our atmosphere for thousands of years like the IPCC claim and you being the good person that you are believe them

This sums it up well.

Quote:
Before the establishment of the IPCC the conventional estimate of CO2 residence time was  accepted to be five years.

When that short time-span didn’t seem to fit what the early models projected, Tom says, ‘[t]he IPCC next constructed an “artificial” residence time for atmospheric CO2 to fit their model, of 50-200 years (IPCC 1990, Table 1.1)’. By and large the IPCC has stuck to this rather generously wide estimate ever since.

One of the leading figures in the IPCC, Susan Solomon, has argued for a thousand-year residence time, but her paper starts with a model, and ignores observations.

It is a good example of the ‘scary’ AGW paper that assumes that it is completely right, despite the lack of supporting evidence.

Moreover, if carbon dioxide had a life of a thousand years in the atmosphere, would we still be able to make carbonated drinks? Would plants to able to use CO2 so efficiently in photosynthesis? Tom points out, in any case, that ‘the measured rise in the atmospheric CO2 level is just half of that expected from the amount of anthropogenic CO2 supplied to the atmosphere’.

In short, something is chewing up the carbon dioxide, and that makes any estimate of a thousand-year residence somewhat mysterious, if not head-scratching.

It seems as though the IPCC has a static model of the atmosphere, in which carbon dioxide is in some sort of natural balance, with the gas moving in and out of the ocean, the atmosphere and the ecosystem — an equilibrium model.

When humans add more CO2 the system goes out of balance, which is bad. Humans must stop doing that, so that the system can return to equilibrium. You’ve heard this before, you say. Yes, so have I.

Ajax at his acme  :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

If I cook a chicken at 200C versus 100C is the cooking time only halved?

No: because the required cooking time required is in a non-linear relationship with respect to the temperature of oven  ::)  :D :D :D :D

Go bugger**********'n Ajax cos he is da man boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyys- ..ah!!
