Do we Aussies cook stuff for Easter?   Are there any traditional foods that families do due to their European (or other) ancestry?

Just curious.  ;)

I don't celebrate it at all.

Certainly don't cook anything special for it.

It's an extra long weekend - nothing more.

Yes, I guess for us Aussies it is just the last long weekend before Winter so probably more of a "holiday" weekend rather than a family get-together ... or anything religious.

So apart from the Chocolate Easter Eggs for the kids and Hot Cross Buns (which are already in Woollies and have been for weeks) NOTHING seems to happen .... although some people get married around Easter.  8-)

I just wondered whether other OzPol Members had a family tradition about Easter and FOOD. Apparently not.  :(

nope just the bloody chocolate..which is usually awful..lucky for me my grandkids are all past it.. well almost got one who 5 but he wont be home for it this year....

I think Easter has completely lost its way...cant be bothered to get involved..

we as per usual will eat too much.... ::) not a good look at all.

I don't even do the chocolate, or the hot cross buns.

It's just a long weekend.

We used to make a big deal about it when mum was around and all the family congregated for each and every occasion 'just because' but things change and nowadays it's just another long weekend.

None of us like hot cross buns much either.

In the old days we would have had some rain by Easter.
If we were lucky there would be a second lot of rain and there would be field mushrooms.

Its all changed now, but if I could I would have a long walk, collect field mushrooms and have a big feed of them at Easter

Mmmmm.  I thought that perhaps Aussies might do what their European and other ancestors did for Easter.  Here is a link of that sort of stuff (in pictures).   Sounds like a lot of extra "work" in the Kitchen to me, so I would pass.  ;)

I guess we do have hot cross buns, they are on sale on boxing day onwards

My mother used to have smoked fish/cod at Easter, she is long gone now but I still have smoked cod at Easter- I love it and so do my kids- chocolate and buns not so much though.

As a kid we always had fish on Good Friday but I don't bother nowadays unless we go to my mother in laws who still does a fish dish for Good Friday.
But I must admit I love Easter buns and I've been eating the buns since Xmas. I can't be the only one though or else's the super markets wouldn't  bother making them so I expect a lot of people are in denial that they are buying them. :)
I like red tulip Easter eggs too, the Lindt aren't bad either.
I don't celebrate it though, I'm a confirmed atheist and I have to work Good Friday and Easter Monday this year. Thats my Easter present,I get double time and a half pay.   :)

Growing up we always had fish on Fridays too.  Maybe on Good Friday we will have tacos, then again ...

I like the Darrell Lea Easter eggs but rarely buy them.
