Title: Tugging strings with lies
Post by bogarde73 on Feb 9th, 2016 at 6:24am
The ABC has been forced to back down & apologise over a lie about the rape of a 5 year old boy on Nauru.
The head of Immigration described their journalists as "political pamphleteers".
Too polite.

You're OK with all the other child rapes, though - right?

But the ABC has acknowledged there was an error in its reporting of the story.

"Our source, the treating doctor told our reporters about two cases. One was an older child," the ABC said in a statement.

"The doctor stands by her statement that this child was allegedly raped on Nauru.

"She also told our reporters about another of her patients, a five-year-old who was allegedly sexually assaulted on Nauru.

"Our story incorrectly used quotes about the older child in referring to the younger child.

"In addition on at least one occasion the incident was referred to as a rape instead of an alleged rape. ABC News apologises for the errors and confusion."

The 12-year-old child in question could be sent back to Nauru alongside 267 asylum seekers in the wake of last week's High Court judgement, which upheld offshore immigration detention.

The status of the five-year-old child also remains unclear.

did you read the whole story boges? or did you get excited at the prospect of bagging the ABC and stop reading after the first line?

The rightards went silent all of a sudden.

It appears that they have no problem with children being abused.

Typical.

"More than 50 of the 70 children who are at risk of being forcibly sent to Nauru are being held at Wickham Point."

Claims of sexual abuse against children at Wickham Point detention centre under investigation, doctors say

I'll will dance & sing whenever the ABC "political pamphleteers" are caught out pretending to be journalists.

If they want to tug strings at least have the decency to be truthful.
The once great independent ABC - those were the days.

Or, did he get excited at the prospect of children being sent back to face more abuse?

More than 50 of the 70 children who are at risk of being forcibly sent to Nauru are being held at Wickham Point.

do you apply that standard to newscorp as well? or is it only the ABC's journalists who aren't allowed to make mistakes?

We obviously have a disagreement on this.
On my side, I feel it is a matter of great concern when the nationally-funded broadcaster has been found to have lied to its audience, a matter deserving of great condemnation at the very least.

On your side, you don't.

geez, they mixed up their quotes and reported that the story that applied to a 10 y old occurred to a 5 yr old ... my gosh, how can they live with themselves :o :o :o

meanwhile, All of Murdochs Australian papers the other week had front page stories of how Abbott 'had a secret one on one meeting with Obama', how the president never makes one on one meetings with backbenchers but made an exception for Abbott because he is such a great man :D :D :D :D

you know what the truth was? Obama had a fundraising lunch with 100 select people, one of which was MURDOCH . Abbott was there as Murdochs guest only, there was no 'secret' meeting and the only time he spoke to Obama was the few seconds that it took Obama to shake his hand (Obama shook the hand of everyones that was present)

Murdoch fed this story to his editors and he lied about it to try and manipulate Australian politics. How many threads did you start on it?

Come back to me about journalistic integrity when you stop being a hypocrite about it.

Yeah - look at what's become of it under unrelenting political pressure from the NAZI party run by Abbott.. nerves at the ABC are so shattered they can't even get a story totally right....
