Title: Hey Big Spenders
Post by bogarde73 on Jan 29th, 2016 at 5:40am
Here they come again. A fist full of dollars in their hands coming from God knows where.
Promising the earth and delivering their own special brand of hell . . .not that they'll get the chance thankfully.

You guessed it, your best mates the good old workers' friend the ALP, looking to try it on again with the only game they know - Bribe the Mugs!

Roll up Roll up! Whadda ya want? Freebies!
Where do you get it? The ALP!
Who's gonna pay for it? Who cares!

I think people have been bitten once too often don't you?

Are you referring to Labor's $40 billion extra for education?

The money will come from the magic pudding cooked at every election -

just like Turnbull's alternative to the NBN -
nothing happened.

Of courseeee, when it came to tax cuts for $50 a year better off per individual boges was all over it, jumping for joy.  When it comes to funding the education of our next generations, boges gets all upset.

Typical right wing mania.

The 2 party system is there to give the illusion of choice -

the fact is you don't have any choice  -

both parties will tell lies to get voted in & then not represent you or anything they've promised.

It's fixed - the table is tilted - the game is rigged.

That's a poor attempt at satire. Compared to Howard's freebies, these guys are still on L plates.

Do you hand out freebies to your kids, knowing full well they'll never accept having to return the freebies if your income dries?
That's what Howard did.  Spend like an imbecile in an overheated economy.  Why? Because he was, and is, an imbecile.

Cods, there is not much of a problem with selling assets that are not useful for government. The problems arise when the sale proceeds are used to fund recurrent expenses. Especially when it is political suicide to start removing the freebies once the cash runs out.

We can easily fund Education & Health.

Instead of baby boomers only paying 15% tax on money invested into super they can pay 20 or even 25%.

They still get their "I've paid tax for years" special discount.

And seeing as they cost the most on the health side they actually are living their mantra of "User Pays"

Just how is a business supposed to fund improvements in clean technology investment if they're being double-taxed by government? Where do they get the money to buy cleaner technology? Coal power has become vastly cleaner over time and how did that occur? It wasn't by government taxing them - it was by businesses investing in cleaner technology. The market is the best way of introducing change, not government. You're the biggest knob of them all.

double taxed?  ;D ;D ;D paying additional tax for polluting is not double tax.
and they can fund it the same way everyone else does. Are you allowed to dump your rubbish on the street? does the govt. pay you to use the garbage bin?

No, he just sold everything. Trouble is we're still handing the freebies out today long after there's nothing left to sell off.

Funny you say that. Keatings' debt is a pittance compared to Rudd'd debt.

I think you mean Tony's debt.

No, Tony inherited Rudd's debt.

And doubled it.

The running debt when Keating left office was $96 billion or 19% of GDP at the time. Calling it massive is ridiculous.

and he didnt leave labor a MASSIVE DEBT>>>

No he didn't. He did leave some serious expenditures that need to be met with funding only from the national budget. These will inflict pain on following governments for years to come.

Any mug can sell off assets and jack up taxes to keep the federal budget in the black. Unfortunately, the world economy is not strong at the present time. A deficit is entirely appropriate at this time. Raising taxes now would be a drain on growth. Treasury understands this. Managed debt is not and never has been a problem in this nation.

for goodness sakes give some credit where its due..

The title of the thread is "Hey Big Spender". If you want me to give due credit to Howard then start a thread with some of his notable achievements and I will happily oblige. If you want me to sing praises for the litany of election bribes and giveaways you'll grow very old waiting. Indeed a rather black period of wanton waste with profound lessons for following administrations.

what freebees got to do with anything?>????...

Quite a lot. We're still paying for them long after the cash has dried up.

I dont get any so I havent a clue what you are on about.

I don't know your personal circumstances but for starters think Private health rebate, Child care subsidisation and concessions to CGT. The list is actually rather long and not all instigated by Howard but the costs of supporting them in a recurrent way keeps growing while income can't keep up at the same rate.

Calling the ALP "My mob" is a mistake. They've come in for plenty of stick from me on this board.

You're the one who needs the history lesson. 2013 debt is less than half 1996. Highest debt was 1948 at 125%

While in minority govt against Libs’ fullthroated opposition Gillard and Swan:

• Removed the Baby Bonus

• Means tested the private health care rebate

• Made the first moves to cut the outrageous super tax exemptions

That is a pretty good start. After they win the election later this year (and they will, Libs are a bumbling, leaderless, divided and incompetent rabble) they will cut much more of the Howardista waste out of the Budget.

The 25.9% figure is the current years spending to GDP. That's not the same thing as debt. Net debt is the accumulated year on year deficits minus the year on year incomes.

Part of Shorten’s statement on gonski funding:

Quote:
This funding will be offset, over the forward estimates and the medium-term, by existing improvements to the Budget proposed by Labor including making multinational companies pay their fair share of tax reforms to the taxation of multinational entities, reducing superannuation tax concessions for millionaires, increasing the changes to tobacco excise, ceasing the Emissions Reduction Fund, and not proceeding with the Liberals’ new Baby Bonus

Spending at 26% of GDP and Bogan reckons Labor are the big spenders?
