Title: Jeff Bezos lands his rocket 2nd successive time Post by Laugh till you cry on Jan 23rd, 2016 at 5:36pm
So its 100% success in recovery of rocket in 2 attempts. Jeff's rocket looks sexier than Elon Musk's minimalistic looking machine.

Very impressive but I thought you were one of those lunar landing conspirators ?

How much will it decrease by? My understanding is that the main cost is associated with the huge amount of energy required to get into space. Taking extra re-usable gear would add to the weight.

The fuel for retro rockets to reduce by the velocity required would be death to most flights - but it's a start. Landing on low gravity planets like The Moon and Mars are not the same as landing back on Earth, and even the Russians with their massive multi-thrust body rockets didn't try it. The greatest burden to space flight is weight of support and other systems required, all of which must be lifted by the initial fuel load and thus makes of any serious venture a massive effort. A serious load of crew and equipment would most likely mean the rocket required would never lift off... every pound of weight added, including in extra fuel, increase exponentially the fuel required.... If the retro idea was so good, why would not NASA etc have done it all before? For this reason - they need to put PAYLOAD into space - not just a rocket. But I suppose the private sector is more efficient - I can tell that from my power bills and my tollway payments ....... |

The poo-poo brigade has arrived on schedule. If this was Archimedes the poo-poo brigade would have tipped him out of the bath and lynched him.

Get back to me when he puts a substantial payload into orbit and returns that rocket in the same way. The Russians built massive boosters with multiple rockets - still had its limits including the weight of fuel to land again. |

The poo-poo brigade arrived via your one man band when you authored this post ::) Private or govt. it's all a waste of money when there are so many other pressing matters in need of resolution right here on planet earth. |

That's because most of the rocket fuel in the first stage is used to get the rocket above the launch tower ;) |

Ozpolitic is solving such problems right now without help from Jeff Bezos. The appropriate retail price for farm produce. |

Spot on - the hardest part is getting the sucker off the ground..... every payload pound is multiplied..... if I need to say more... the nay-sayers know nothing. Add XXXXXX pounds of fuel for re-landing........... you either have a massive rocket or no payload.... All the space cadets can get back to me when this guy actually posts a payload and then bring is it all back home. Unless a totally different energy source is found, IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! |
