you gain energy by not being a fat porker...

pick up a 30 kilogram bag of sugar and you'll nearly have heart failure..

but put on 30 kgs over time and you don't notice that weight.. but your body does.. that's why you are tired.. you are carrying around a huge bag of sugar all day and all night.. its tiring..  :(

give up alcohol and sugar is a good start

At present :

Lots of coffee (3/day....sometimes 4 with 2 raw sugars + So Good soy milk). A quick n easy  pick me up for the day.

No breakfast (makes me feel sick thanks to pregnancy/morning sickness....sigh).

Lunch : Salada biscuits with tomato, cucumber and cheese OR ....just a quick coffee.

Dinner : home made yummy stuff.

-------------------------------------

Result :

1. Feel tired and/or cranky all the time ....hence the need for more coffee.
2. Don't feel hungry. I don't suffer hunger pains nor do I go looking for food.
3. No weight loss. Grrrrrr!

more energy more energy... please......forget the weight loss no such thing...but something is sucking the energy out of us all...

I now believe calories just JUMP on us.... we only have to walk past a snicker bar.. and bingo..

I also think the govt is hiding something from us.....

I think it was an experiment that went bad like agent orange....and we have all be contaminated ..

how come scientists can stop CLIMATE CHANGE..

well think they can.. ::)

yet they cant fix weightloss and energy loss...

thats what I would like to know.

Nearly everyone is deficient in the mineral magnesium and the body cannot store it, much like vitamin C, so take a supplement and you will feel much better, it also seems to make you a lot stronger, I know it did for me and body builders take it as well.. tip: take it in the evening , it also promotes restful sleep. Coffee will give you energy but you also get the crash about mid afternoon.

Even if you get past the Middle Age Spread you will suffer again with the Old Age Spread. ;D

It's in your genes.

I am the same weight as I was as a teenager and have never been on a diet in my life.  I eat whatever I want to. I get told "gosh you are thin" which is RUDE, especially since the people who have said this are STRANGERS and are "big boned" (i.e. OBESE).

Stop worrying about your weight and you will gain ENERGY. ;)

Mineral Magnesium? Is that the same as the magnesium in Blackmores Total Calcium Magnesium + D3, which I think I bought after some major problems with cramps in my legs after exertion doing the whole gamit with the caravan one day packed, travelled, setup with annex etc, phew!!

LOL You need Blackmores "Mega B Complex", plus Centrum Advance 50+. Swisse Vitamin D.  Plus whatever your local GP prescribes for Cholesterol and BP.  ;D ;D

Most ranges carry a magnesium supplement Red.. there is a Mag. Chelate or Orotate, either one is fine, sometimes they can be combined with another vit/min.  Perfectly safe and great for so many bodily functions, nerves heart  etc the list is very long. I will post a couple of good ones when I have more time- have a chat to your phamacist, he knows all.  8-)   It is a wonderful mineral- have a google  reagrds the benefits..

I think the cramps were mainly due to over exertion without drinking any fluids, however they persisted for a few days. I think I found something on Dr Google that suggested Magnesium.

Mag is great for cramps ( muscle relaxant) take some calcium/vit D and drink more milk also.

IF I recall, cramps in the feet and legs are due to lack of SALT  ... or excessive sweating.

No pills from the Chemist will fix it.

If worried, talk to your local GP.

On these hot days in Canberra, make sure you keep dehydrated, Red.  I am sure you have a/c, if not, turn on the fan to move the "air" around.

I have been rather surprised that the temps in Canberra at night have NOT cooled right down like they usually do.  I woke in the middle of the night last night and noticed it was still 28C.

get a blood test then and also check Vitamin D levels..

some of these minerals go hand in hand.. without one others wont soak into your system..

low quality vitamins are no good either..

for mature women - take Caltrate Plus - you'll get a good quality Magnesium, Vitamin D and Calcium etc

  When losing a lot of perspiration one can suffer from muscle cramps- and this is usually due to loss of electrolytes because of  losing too much body fluid. I used to get these electrolyte powder from the pharmacy and it fixed my problem every time- electrolytes have salt in it, so you are partially right- also drinks like Powerade/Gatorade ( electrolytes in ) also very good - take calcium too.

The temps here over night awful- 27 -25 etc. Tropical/humid- I hate this weather.

If we are talking about diet and weight loss then DIETING is simply not the answer.
i think something like 90 % of people who lose weight gain it all back within 18 months.

the answer is , what i always say the answer is.....
developing mental muscle.

You are not your mind.
Your mind can lead you to dark places.
Your mind has limiting beliefs and success barriers.
Your mind will lead you to self sabotage and eat that chocalate bar because your mind (and your ego) is invested in your body image and the drama this creates in your life.

So , stuff your mind.

exercise that mental muscle
be determined that you can control your impulses
each little victory over your urges and impulses makes you stronger.

You are in a battle with your mind (which is not you) and you (your pure essense) is going to win.

This stuff is too easy. ;)

Tell you what.....I WAS expecting heaps of people to come rushing into this topic to say that they too felt like me....always tired/lacking energy/needing a diet which addressed these issues without gaining weight.

That hasn't happened though. I find that surprising.

and then change that
be willing to face the numbers

dont think how other people think
dont do what other people do
get out of group think
grab a cucumber or a carrot and walk around your local westfield mall and look at the strange looks you will get from the chodes in group think.
let those strange looks feed your state, feed you mental will power, feel yourself getting stronger and look at them (eating their burger rings and donuts) getting weaker.


i actually like the idea of lifting weights
it makes you feel stronger and (by the law of state transference) it will make your mind stronger.

theres a thought, get a set of dumbells and a carrot and walk around the mall, doing curls, eating your carrot and feeling the energy flowing through your body. chant as you walk.
divorce yourself from western group think, beaten down, chode , scrub behaviour.

aqua I watched an interesting program last night The truth about exercise..

they told us what happens to our system.. when we eat certain foods and when we exercise after eating certain foods.. in this case fatty...and they proved that walking was all it takes to put the body into proper working order....no running no weights...as with all those things.. you cannot stop doing them....yet walking is an every day thing...which is done without thinking or planning..

of c ourse if you put more effort into the walking it has better effects....or shall we say quicker effects...but moving is critical man was not meant to be stationary in some case 12 hours a day.. just sitting....its what we have become...

i actually like the idea of lifting weights
it makes you feel stronger and (by the law of state transference) it will make your mind stronger.

I can manage the holes and even brown spots.....and I dont go out after dark in bare feet...

its the picking up I cant handle.

the male dog is worse it pees on everything it passes...including blades of grass.

1 pound of fat = 4000 calories.

walk for one hour a day and you lose 1 pound every 10 days.
do this for a year and you lose 36 pounds
do it for 2 years and you lose 72 pound or 33 kg.

This stuff is too easy.
All you have to do is be willing to face the numbers

how many people can walk briskly for one hour...

you talk about using the MIND..

then you talk about doing something we are not meant to do

one size or in this case one exercise does not fit all.... the idea is to do something within reason...we walk every day even if it only from bed to the bathroom.. we do it....just do it with meaning..jogging btw is bad for most people

thats the one but it was on channel 9.. the truth about exercise......

I found it interesting because they test everything out....its what happens inside you body what your blood does with it all...of course we cant have all those tests and so on... but we can take notice of them....and being the BBC we know its all above board dont we?..well I mean they are not selling something.

Lots of interesting advice on this thread. The answer is more simple though.

You've slowed down your metabolism by skipping meals.

5 small meals a day. Breakfast is essential.

Start the day with some lemon juice in water. FORCE yourself to eat something. I too have trouble with breakfast so i force myself to eat some carrot sticks from my kids lunchbox ... a handful of almonds .. some yogurt ... an apple .... anything .. but breakfast is crucial. It kick starts your metabolism.

Coffee is giving you a high, not energy. It is actually causing you to crash. 3 coffees a day isn't too many (providing it's proper coffee, not that instant crap) but with 2 sugars in it? That's too much sugar. You're riding a caffeine/sugar high. You'll come down from it so you'll chase it again. And there is nothing 'solid; in your system to handle it.

All this will slow down your metabolism.

5 small meals a day. The smallest of them being dinner.

Make sure your food groups are covered and you don't need expensive supplements. You should never rely on supplements. Get it all from your food. To do otherwise teaches your body to be lazy.

Too  many people think eating less will make them lose weight.

The opposite is true. Small meals often. Chill out on the animal fats and chow down. Small amounts. Often.

Small meals often will fire up your metabolism. Fasting will slow it down.

This is why crash diets always fail and people end up putting on more weight than they started with.

Mothra's right.

Small meals often. And breakfast is a MUST.

I've now spoken with our family doctor. Given I have Thalassemia (minor), I have low blood iron levels all the time...which makes things even worse.

So.....here's to eating to gain energy....not weight!

And there was my problem also I found out .... eventually! I wondered why I was always so darned tired.

When I was expecting, my iron count was so low, I was white as a ghost, and tired as, was told to take iron tablets which constipated me...
By the time I had my 2nd child, my iron count was a bit better, but not as good as it should have been. I did feel a difference in the higher count of iron, even if it was still low.

Then I went and had these injections (on the posterior as they leave dark marks for quite some time, eventually did disaappear)....
These injections helped with my energy a lot, and haven't felt as tired as I used to feel all those years ago. :-/

  Eat very iron rich foods Lisa ( liver etc) and it would be worthwhile getting along to the Dr and maybe having it tested- I used to have very low iron levels, and felt bad most of the time. The Dr kept telling me that my iron was in the normal range always- but didn't tell me it was at the lower end of normal- you can be in the lower end of normal range and feel just terrible ( insomnia etc). You need to get your levels much higher to at least mid range- iron deficiency can effect your overall health and well being.

the facts are

ONE SIZE DOESNT FIT ALL>>

we are being got at.. because most of our food is over processed......which makes it easier to eat and of course digest....where it disappears quick  and we think we are still hungry..

so eat all the more...

its time we woke up to ourselves we are being conned by marketing...

get back to old fashioned food and cooking..

dont cook from  a packet...make from scratch..everything to day is in a packet or frozen wake up girls its all treated..its all contaminated...and not for your benefit...but the manufacturers...

havent you noticed how long the lists of ingredients is getting...and havent you noticed they are getting harder to read?????...

let a lone know what the hell you are reading..

we are being conned...dont buy crumbed fish chicken prawns..crumbed  anything... do it yourself...

use brown rice.. do sour dough bread.. all dearer by a few cents but its worth it..it will FILL YOU UP..

especially if you have children who are battling their weight..anything white is stripped of anythign of value...

and great they are as well..however it isnt the main meals that are the biggest problem...we snack continously  .. cant even go into a chemist without having food of some sort in your face...lollies mainly...sugar loads....

look in the drink dispenser machines...the water is down low the sugar filled are eye level..

its up to the manufacturer where their products are shown to us..


if they pay more then they are placed better...which means they sell more.. because we are stoooopid.. and being led by marketing...

are our fruit and vegies FRESH.. like they CLAIM..

I doubt it...and we all know they start losing value  as soon as they are picked....

nothing I buy today is anything like what we had years ago....size smell taste its all gone...

I can understand them trying to preserve everything..but for how long./   do I really need to buy a piece of cheese with a 12months use by???>.

.havent you noticed... the length of time has got longer...we can now buy food with 2017 on it...WHY?...is a famine coming????

to do that.. this product is being treated....and I for one do not like it.

agnes you may have noticed I think and see things different from most people....and what I am saying is true...today we are blinded by medicine we think there is a pill for everything that ails us.. so we dont really need to look after this body.. a pill or a bottle of cream will fix it all..

yeah right..

.look at the folks that still roast themselves on the beaches....its ok.. they will have a cure soon...and those wrinkles will all be gone when I try the latest jar  of cream..at some extraordinary price...

lazy is being kind.. agnes... sloths do better.they do use  some intelligence....we just waste ours..

It depends on what you eat. If you're hoeing into a big steak, that;s all you need for the day. If you are eating mostly plant matter, you need to eat more than that.

Think of how animals do it. Herbivores graze. Carnivores don''t even eat daily.

The problem isn't with the amount of food people eat alone, it is with the type of food people ear. Eat plant matter. Often. Eat animal protein no more than once a day ... and if it is a big serve, eat less of everything else. Eat more fibre the next day. I personally think once a day is too often, but that;s just me.

And when i say small measl, meal is probably the wrong word. I mean a handful of almonds ... or an apple. Coffee, as Lisa relies on, won't do it. It's empty.

Starving yourself WILL slow your metabolism. It will certainly deprive you of energy. Eat when hungry but know that processed foods make you feel hungry more often. So do soft drinks, especially diet ones. They increase appetite.

the cultures that eat little but fresh.. do a lot more as well.. they quite often catch their own or grow their own.. unlike us spoilt ones.

I found it interesting because they test everything out....its what happens inside you body what your blood does with it all...of course we cant have all those tests and so on... but we can take notice of them....and being the BBC we know its all above board dont we?..well I mean they are not selling something.

you can't go wrong and it'll teach you meal sizes etc and different types of foods you may not have though about..

the trick is calorie control..

a lot of people in a western society don't have a clue in how much they should eat..

just fill up the large plate and DON"T STOP EATING until its all gone..

every last crumb..

if you cook a big pot of spag bol...and serve a small dish for yourself...

whats the chances of you going back for more???

I find cooking for one.. hard to be honest..someone said cook enough and freeze.....all well and good but I would find myself eating what was meant to be frozen....my intentions never worked out..

Those lite n easy are quite good

We get a supply of them periodically!

They are bigger than the supermarket rubbish and nicer too
