its not how you pray its how you live..
if we are getting more feral..and murderous then I agree we have forsaken Jesus... in the mean time I almost never go to church.. I dont consider that to be essential for me to be a Christian |

England's established Church has been dying for decades, largely by having essentially non-christian beliefs and practices. Ironically, Australian Churches are setting up congregations there and thriving. Hillsong has several there with a few thousand members as does and Adelaide group. Several American churches are doing the same. The Anglican Church is one generation away from non-existence. |

People I guess don't need fear of an afterlife to make them do the right thing anymore.

As people become more accepting of reality and less accepting of pie-in-the-sky wishful-thinking, the superstitions that underpin religious observance will slowly wither and die on the vine as intellectually redundant and insupportable.
But it must be allowed to die a natural death. We live in an Age of Reason in which critical-thinking is even allowed Western adults to question the Bible's fictionalised accounts of Life, the Universe, and everything in between ... a burning-at-the-stake offence not so long ago. But more than just asking "Does God exist?", most thinking people have gone beyond that to now ask ... "Is God's moral conscience as good as mine?" - with the answer coming back in the negative over so many unnecessarily cruel events that we witness every day in our news bulletins. There was no intercession by God at Auschwitz ... or in the children's cancer wards ... That's because of 'free will'. So if there's a God - so what? In terms of human generations slowly crawling their way forward to a more improved civilisation - 'God' is totally irrelevant. It's heartening to know that at least 50% of Britain's white adult population is at last emerging into the light after 2000 years of being stoned on Biblical fantasies. link |

That's actually quite insightful of you. That's the personal reason for people opting out of religious observances, but on a more social level 98% of the world's population is obliged to be visibly religious so as not to be ostracised from their village community and be thought to be witches deserving of being stoned or burned to death. |

Correct. It's an inverse proportion thing. The more saturated the society is with religious mania - the poorer the country, and the more likely the country is run by a corrupt military junta or a gangster family dynasty with a feared Secret Police to grab any whingers off the streets. It's why the US hasn't reached its full potential yet. It's a country where religion is pounded into the schoolchildren as with no other Western country except Ireland, Italy, Greece and Poland. |

Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Revelation 14:15-19 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. Joel 3:13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. |

I'm not sure thats right. i find buddhists and christians far less "fearful" then secular people. You need a direction in life and you need a "personal philosophy" It doesnt probably matter in the long run which direction you take, but if you dont take a direction you are well and truly farrked. And it seems to my observations that many many aetheists would do very well to submit to a "force" greater then themselves. Their ego's wont like this. Their ego thinks they will cease to exist if they do. Paradoxically though, the opposite is true. If people think they can find peace and happiness in the secular world of "ego", i will wish them good luck. They are going to need it ;) |

Well true, buddhism is more a philosophy. And you can certainly read the personal philosophy of Jesus and get a lot out of it. And i dont think there is an afterlife BUT religion fulfils a very useful role. If you dont see jesus or the buddha or confuscius or Lao Tzu as very gifted philosophers , you are just closing off some major avenues for personal growth. And what exactly is the direction of your average englishman going to be. If they wish to turn their backs on the smartest and most inspired philosophers, where are they going to get direction from? David cameron ;) The UN ;) the BBC ;) i wouldnt be writing off religion just yet. And , whilst it is falling in the UK (which seems to have fallen into some sort of melancholic state) , it is booming in Russia and east asia. |

Surfers Paradise is tatty and over rated. I've seen stacks of beach towns better than the Gold Coast. The town strip is a shocker, ratty looking tourist traps.
The atmosphere of the place is decidedly down market. All it is, is a bunch of high rises on the water with a crappy Casino thrown in. Pass |

It really comes down to how the study was conducted. But yes 1500 people could be used to determine 64 million. It won't be as good as 3000 people, or 3 million people, but you can still use it to determine the statistical significance. Just the confidence level will be lower. |
