US Customs and Border Protection has denied claims travellers may be subject to an interview because of racial profiling, after a New South Wales MP said she was "interrogated" about how she got an Australian passport as she entered the US. Greens MP Mehreen Faruqi, who was born in Pakistan, has criticised immigration procedures at Los Angeles International Airport, saying she and her husband were asked "how we actually got our Australian passport" before being interviewed in separate rooms. "Questions about why I was there, when I had last been to Pakistan, what I had done there, had I been the the US before," she said, adding she was also asked to provide a second form of identity, and underwent routine fingerprinting. She said the process points towards racial profiling, but US Customs and Border Protection denied the claim. The agency has told the ABC that as part of its "critical national security mission", officers check the validity of travel documents on all travellers "regardless of nationality, race, sex, religion, faith, or spiritual beliefs". "We do this routinely every day," a spokesperson said in a statement. "It's not unusual that a legitimate traveller may be subject to an enhance screening. This protects not only the traveller but ensures the integrity of our border security mission. "To put this in perspective, CBP intercepts an average of 27,000 illegitimate documents every year. "CBP welcomes more than a million passengers arriving to the United States every 24 hours. Every day CBP officers conduct their duties with vigilance, integrity and the highest level of professionalism." Dr Faruqi migrated from Pakistan to Australia in 1992 with her young family and joined the Australian Greens in 2004. She is touring the United States as part of a self-funded fact-finding trip on drug law reform and also to visit family. |

Immigration was doing it's job
The person thumbed their nose at the hard work immigration agents to get noticed I note she this woman joined the Greens in 2004 - she's seen what immigration do at the borders through television shows and travel. So why raise the issue now? Stupid Greens |

Racial profiling for Western countries, in the age of ISIS, seems to me a totally sensible course to take.
And denial of it is also sensible. |

Considering the heightened tension caused by the Muslim attacks in Tennessee and California, I think she was expecting a pretty cool reception. Making a big deal out of it would have been her plan.

And apparently she complained about being fingerprinted. Sweetie, every visitor to the US of A has been fingerprinted on entry for years now, you're nothing special.

There's nothing unusual about the questoining. İ was questioned by Australian customs when İ left for Turkey. This Greenie is just an over-sensative clown who gets offended by reality. Nothing to see here.

She should stop bitching and admit to the fact that it's been Muslim terrorism on the rampage these past few years.
But having said that, I give her a lot of credit for not only choosing not to wear one of those cringe-worthy childish hijabs, but also for having the courage to move around her Muslim community looking very conspicuous for not wearing the hijab. It would take a certain amount of 'mongrel' in her to be so 'confronting' with the Muslim sisterhood. She's made a transition towards assimilation which the others haven't yet developed the emotional maturity to do so. She's a cracking Good Sort, too ... not that there's anything wrong with that of course ... :) link |
