....i've been told i deserve to be raped; am ugly; fat; sexually undesirable and old ... all by men trying to win an arguments with me. I've not seen any such abuse directed at male posters. What is with this misogyny? And yes, that is precisely what it is. I'm appalled by it but equally appalled that other posters have not called foul. How is anyone to know what i look like on an anonymous message board? How dare anyone suggest i deserve to be raped? This is Australia. 2016. Dismissing a woman because of assumed lack of desirability to men is not ok. I don't validate myself by my desirability to men. If you are that desperate to use that in an argument, clearly you have a problem with being bested by a woman, I await the "touched a nerve did i" comments that will inevitably ensue ... just know you are wrong. You are being pulled up on bad behaviour that a sexual revolution has taught you otherwise, yet you were too backward to notice. |

The main task that will lead to peace is to try to reduce the size of ones ego.
the 2 great thinkers, jesus of nazareth and the Buddha were among the first to realise this. We assume most people want peace but do they really? Peace of mind is the enemy of the ego. the ego loves conflict, the ego loves to play the victim, the ego can tell these cry baby stories over and over in the mind and thus the position of the ego is strengthened. Big ego, big suffering. And the whiners, the outraged, the easily offended are the owners of very large egos. one would never have seen Jesus or the buddha expressing outrage, offense, whining and complaining. i do not recall jesus as he was nailed to the cross , calling out "poor me". if you want peace of mind, you must destroy your ego. For the rich, this means losing attachment to their rolexes and their plastic surgeons. For the hard core leftie, this means losing attachment to their moral outrage and continuous offense. |

I doubt Longy does approve of that, but its a nuanced point .
Thus it is not able to be grasped by the mainstream leftard posters. They are, by and large, quite passive aggressive and operate from a level of very low consciousness. they operate really from a level not much higher then an animal. they are "reactive", they dont have a well developed thinking brain. Now, it IS a nuanced point to say that such angry displays against mothra are partly mothra's fault. The group think , dumbed down version, is that such responses are totally unacceptable, but the naunced point is that they are not unexpected and if one provokes deliberately looking for a response , then one must accept some responsibility for this response. This is only the internet so no real harm done. But in real life, should someone of mothras mindset engage with someone who has not developed a high level of self control. If you provoke and provoke and provoke , with the deliberate intention of producing an angry outburst, are you not being foolish (even if you are correct in the cold light of day that someone should not "lose their temper"). many people can and will lose their temper and the consequence, whether you are technically in the right or not is "you still got hit" from a pragmatic point of view, why on earth would mothra engage in endless duels with these people if there was not some pay off for mothra. this is safe to do on the internet, but i would counsel against it, here on planet earth which i call "reality" |

I don't bother to check the gender symbol of posters. This thread is the first time I have been made aware of Mothra's gender. One reason I have not seen these sexist insults is because I don't follow threads where posters go off on a tangent hoping to get in the last word. Its too boring. They ramble on for mind numbing pages. In that case, I don't give sh** who is right.

I saw some of the comments I admit.
It seemed for the main part, they were white flag comments - I think I justified staying quiet to myself because, in short, you did the better job of debating in the main. There is not really much one can do... You could report it to the mods - I am not convinced though that the rules are applied in anyway other than arbitrarily and without consistency (bordering on with bias I would add)... I guess even mods have their favourites. Whilst that continues to be the foundation of Oz Pol - I suspect you will get little or no joy Mothra (well apart from the short lived and shallow joy of having won a debate on an internet forum at least). Looking at many of the responses here, it is clear that many posters will see this as a whinge right up until they're on the receiving end... Then they too will squeal like banshees, or you will get the enablers, apologists and justifiers.... Anyway, for what it's worth, a good measuring stick in these discussions is this, if the person you are debating has to resort to personal insult, abuse, threat or any other demeaning comment - they have nothing left to intelligently debate - they are done, beaten and just lack the integrity to admit it... That's who is trying to kick you about the board... |

My psycho analysis of the situation is this.
Its very similar to why women will often keep taking back guys who have been abusive to them. because they are addicted to the moral superiority. I dont think there is any doubt that mothra actively pursues the abuse , so as to be able to feel that little hit of pleasure when she can feel morally superior after one of her antagonists takes it too far. I dont buy the victim arguement from mothra or from gweg. They love it. Evidence? They keep coming back again and again and again. If there was no "reward" for this behaviour, they would cease to do it. It may be sado masochistic. it may be self esteem issues to do with self sabotage. It may be a limiting belief that they cant engage in normal debate and so have to fall to the level of a 6 yo whining about another 6 yo. Either way, i wont be encouraging gweg or mothra to continue along this line of "play" as i feel it is poisoning their mental state and hardening their ego and is leading them to a level of low consciousness. They are , in fact, regressing. This is sad. Life is short. I would recommend Scott Pecks "the road less travelled" or , if you are a bit more paranoid, several books by Richard Green will enable you to develop a more mature attitude to conflict resolution ;) |

In very simple terms, this is the accelerator - this is the part of our brain that responds first and foremost to emotional triggers. The spot where flight, fight or freeze occurs. It is a normal part of the human brain. Of course, we are a species with (theoretically) some pretty unique "wiring" in our brain that link the Amygdala up with our frontal cortex (lobe), now that bit of the brain is where we can be more analytical, abstract, thoughtful and, rely on what we have previously learned and/or experienced in order to thoughtfully respond to any given situation, rather than just reacting emotionally. Clearly, that process takes a bit of practice and, even with practice, it is absolutely normal for us not to get this right every single time in our lives. Hopefully though, we get it right during important times mostly. Finally, using ideas about how we think, responding to our emotions and ego to justify, dismiss and/or minimise what is patently abusive, derogatory and threatening behaviour is NOT at all what any self help book is about, ever, even the rubbish ones that are out there. One would reasonably expect slightly better, to be honest, from a father of daughters. |

It was $20Bn for the two audits, and NBN Co are looking at the state of the copper in detail, i.e. an audit.
I said the cost will be closer to $150Bn than whatever fudged figure NBN Co put in their Strategic Review. It has increased to $56Bn with hardly anything rolled out as yet. I said the 48mm diameter HFC cables would put a huge strain on the power poles, and they will. The bit about the poles being pulled out the ground was me quoting one council worried about cars doing just that. The Optus HFC HAS to be rebuilt. god knows what disasters will be uncovered with the Telstra HFC? For a religious character you sure tell a lot of lies, Maria/Longy. |

No, the council was worried a car or truck would get tangled up in the cable and so bring the pole down.
Unlike you I don’t think hanging thick heavy cables between poles adds no net force to the pole. Poles might need to be replaced/reinforced but I never said they would just topple over. I have been 100% consistent on what I said about the MTM mess and its costs. The costs have already shot up to $56Bn with hardly anything built—do you REALLY think costs won’t blow out much more than that? Of course they will! The opportunity cost of stopping the FTTH roll out, doing nothing but bits of infill now faffing around with FTTN over Telstra copper and Telstra HFC is even bigger than the cost of the MTM mess. |
