I remember PM Abbott turning up for a NSW bush fire last year and people criticise him. Abbott is an SES volunteer
This year PM Turnbull didn't turn up and he get criticise for not turning up The fire is still going - why would Turnbull visit now? https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/30514514/homes-feared-lost-as-south-west-fire-hits-yarloop/ WA Liberal MP Nola Marino, whose southern electorate of Forrest covers most of the fire zone, said she had spoken to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who had pledged assistance. |

I don't think it's a big deal if a politician misses a photo op over real victims - better to spend the money wasted on assistance.
A smart politician would say just that in the prevailing cold wind of public opinion over politician waste of public money and grand-standing. |

Shorten visiting would do nothing other than a bit of media time and his face in the paper. As Opposition Leader that is all he can do Senior members of the Coalition visiting however have the capacity to unlock the federal funding that these people probably now desperately need. THAT is the reason why he should be there or at least someone who can open the books after seeing first hand what resources are needed to help.

When you say “Turnbull visits scene of fires” you mean of course that he stands some distance away so his nice clothes don’t get dirty.
OK for a dandy but we expect more from a PM. |

Title: Re: Has Turnbull visited the WA Fire Victims Post by greggerypeccary on Jan 12th, 2016 at 7:51pm Well, I now know why Malcolm is too busy to pay any attention to the fire victims. He's moving into The Lodge, as we speak. Perfectly understandable that he has no time to think of the people who have lost their homes - he's got a house warming party to organise. (no pun intended) |
