There has been more than one study that shows the policy works, existing smokers stopped, far less youngsters taking up the filthy habit.

I was a smoker and memories of the stupid things I did at times to get cigarettes make me squirm now.

Like I said, people are giving it up because it costs too much. I'll stand by that comment. Karnal walks through customs with cartons of ciggies under her burqa. She's dirty because her black market ciggie business has taken a hit. Her husband has been giving her backhanders because of it.

If I was a kid and a friend came along with a packet of cigarettes in a nice packet with all the misapplied miracle of commercial design so that it looked cool etc I might smoke a cigarette. With a packet colored like camelsh1t I might decide it looked UNcool, the big graphic picture of the results of smoking would likely turn me off even more.

sounds good, except the numbers are proving you wrong. Irrespective of how expensive cigarettes got, we only had a decline in the kids taking up smoking AFTER plain packaging came in.

I've known loads of smokers and they don't give a crap what's on the packet. Just as long as they get their nicotine fix. We used to laugh at the diseased lungs and eyes.

Most kids are a bit smarter than that and don't take up smoking because of pretty packaging.  You really don't understand that do you?

Instead of proclaiming what a resounding success plain packaging has been how about supplying stats.  REAL stats.  How many people have given up smoking because of the packaging?  I have not heard of one so far.  Not one.

Cigarette prices go up twice a year in February and August.  Price hikes would be a far more indicative reason for giving up than packaging.

It is pointless to assume people have not even taken up the habit because of plain packaging as it could never be proven.

Replace Shorten with Gillard.

Gillard never thought the ETS was a carbon tax but wanted to move beyond the “is it a tax” crap the media kept coming up with “you can call it a tax if you like.”

If it wasn’t for the bloody Greens not wanting their base to have to pay a bit more for their energy we would have had a real ETS operating bow!

There has been a steady decrease in smoking for many years and plain packaging was only introduced in December, 2012.   There are many variables that cannot be charted.

Plain packaging is a good thing and may stop some people from taking up the habit but it cannot be claimed as a 'resounding' success without taking into account the huge rise in the illegal tobacco trade and the huge price hikes that have taken place between 2012 and 2015 both of which would have considerably more impact on quitting.

You're delusional. Rudd is the worst, closely followed by Gillard. Rudd even got caught calling the Chinese "rat fvckers" and is the only PM in living memory to have enacted policies that are directly responsible for getting people killed (think illegal immigrants and pink batts). He is the only PM to have taken a considerable surplus and within 12 months turned it into a deficit. Then there's his litany of broken promises. Couldn't have been a worse PM if he tried. As for Gillard, she was a compulsive liar who treated everyone with utter contempt and blamed every negative news story about her on a gender war that was a figment of her imagination. The official estimates were about 30,000 pictures from one angle only show a lot of people. But when the pictures from many directions show people as far as the eye can see you can safely assume that it looks fairly serious.

Your estimate of 2 000 stated is just wrong. The pictures from each march show more than that and a total over 100,000 looks credible. You should have let his conservative 80,000 stand as it was actually more than that.

Was a long time ago when I was at school but calculus was in the HSC syllabus for 2F math (and below) at the time. I don't think that Maxwell's equations were covered, Done that at uni, it could be included now but probably not as it is a bit specialised. It could almost get a mention in physics ?

Yep quick Google confirmed that it is indeed now examined in physics for the HSC.
