Quote:

I think it is much simpler. For some people there simply MUST be a dire global emergency to which they must throw all their efforts and other people's money into. End one emergency and another springs up. There is always one and the arguments are always variations on a theme - we must spend trillions of dollars to fund something or other always centred on the third world.

And all conservatives are petrified at the thought of change—probably why so many never really grow up—and make ideology take the place of science. That doesn’t work.

You do understand what a "half life" is don't you?
That means after 40 years half of the surplus CO2 that we put into the atmosphere is still there.
So it will continue to accumulate at an alarming rate.
Given that this study was undertaken by climate change skeptics I would suggest that the 40 year half life is probably a conservative estimate but as 7 billion people continue to pump CO2 into the atmosphere it will continue to accumulate even with a half life of approximately 40 years.
