Title: 50mbpersecond good enough...
Post by Mal_whatuploadspeed_Turnbull on Nov 13th, 2015 at 2:05pm
news The chief executive of the NBN company, Bill Morrow, has stated in several comments over the past month that the 50Mbps base speeds which the company is aiming for across much of its network will be good enough “for the forseeable future” — ten years after the NBN is initially built.

What a brainless more on. Has he not heard of Netflix, for one? Bit of an advance of that sorry excuse of a so–called CBA, 25mbps fine in 2020  :D :D :D

And all the Lib luvvies will agree 25 is enough :D, 50mbps superfast good grief!

Not that Telstra crap copper will give 50mbps, not with the way DSLAMS in the nodes are radically underprovisioned with fibre. Even HFC will struggle to provide 50mbps at peak periods, less when 4K TV starts being streamed.

From the link in the OP:

Quote:
In Canada, Bell Canada last week announced it was planning to deploy 10Gbps broadband services on its FTTP network — reaching some 2.2 million homes by the end of this year — in 2017.

Like NZ, has (had) a RW govt but not one lead by a brainless thug or a weak as p1ss merchant banker. The interests of the nation are advanced, not mindlessly blocked.

Actually, 50mb/s isn't that bad.

Try the 64kb/s (yes, that's right, 64kb/s - dialup speed) that I get slowed to
when I exceed my poxy 15gb/month limit (for which I pay a small fortune).

Can't even open my ISP's (Bigpond) homepage...  >:(

Yes, Kat, 50mbps is fine, until you have a couple of kids doing homework/playing multiuser games, wife on the phone etc and so is every house pretty much on your HFC cable or wireless tower etc.

However, we are not, or should not, be spending $56Bn (plus up to another $100Bn on top of that) for todays needs!

We should be rolling out the virtual infrastructure for the next 100 years, infrastructure that allows people to telecommute so they can leave the outer suburbs/rented premises and buy a house well outside the main city, share medical and educational resources, boost productivity, etc etc.

The stupid MTM struggles to meet todays needs: from the Roy Morgan media report (email:)

Quote:
2.677 million Australians have Netflix
as subscriptions surpass one million homes

Another year and it will be 5m homes and the MTM is groaning under the strain.

More crap from the article linked in the OP:

Quote:
Bill Morrow said it was more important to get entry-level high-speed broadband speeds to as many Australians as possible, rather than proceeding with a long-term FTTP build.

“So you want that as quick as you can get it, right? If you can say fibre-to-the-node can deliver up to 50Mbit/s for most everybody, isn’t that enough for the next 10 years to get this thing going and then, if there is more demand, then you just push fibre further down the street using the company’s profits rather than adding in more taxpayer money?” he said.

This, not to put too fine a point on it, is a blatant LIE!

NBN Co is putting very limited fibre out to the Nodes. There is ZERO capacity there for running fibre from the stupid node. So fibre will have to be rerun all the way from the exchange. No money saved, the contrary in fact as we rip out the mishmash first.

What a bunch of clowns are pretending to be a govt!
