Evident fake ATO call. That was not the ATO. The ATO bankrupt you, garrot you and sell your cadaver for body parts. They don't phone you, they phone your relatives as a warning.

I've had about half a dozen tax scam calls in the past 6 months.

They leave a message on the answering machine since we never answer calls unless we know who it is.

The last one was at 6:45am on a Wednesday morning a few weeks ago. Said they were acting on behalf of the ATO and there was a warrant out for my arrest (they never say my actual name, of course) and I had to call a certain number to "make it go away".  It was an 02 number but I bet it wasn't from Sydney. :D

I always laugh because my tax return was done in July. And, I got my refund a few weeks later.

At one stage, I was getting these calls weekly. They are based in India judging by the accents. I asked Telstra to monitor incoming calls, but they were using VOIP, so they were untraceable. I used to vary it a bit. One time, I asked the caller if her mother knew she was involved in criminal activity. She hung up. The same person called two days later. I said "how are you today? We spoke earlier in the week. If you remember, I  asked you what it was like being a criminal." She replied - Oh yes I remember. You were the one with the bullshit. Then she hung up.

If you ever get a call from somebody reporting to be from Telstra, just ask for a reference number. Say that you'll call Telstra when you are not so busy. If it's the real Telstra, they won't have a problem.

The problem is that whenever I get a real call from a bank, I tend to be overly suspicious. I ask them to prove who they say they are, and usually call them back on the correct number.

I never pay for anything on the phone.  It's too risky.

so was I ... when they asked me what operating system I use, I told them to tell me, after all, I had registered it with them when i bought it. She tried to tell me that was another department so I told her to phone them instead. :D :D :D

with another call I put my 3 year old on the phone and told him to tell the person on the phone all about his day at pre school. I don't know how long they stayed on for, but the little man was still going strong 10 minutes later  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I actually got up one of their snouts one time.

At the time I was getting sick of all the bloody calls from Indian/Pakistani accented scammers.

Anyway I let loose with a couple of minutes of my worst swearing and racist comments called him a curry munching camel fvcker etc and hung up. It must have upset him as he called back swearing at me so I gave him a bigger serve of worse swearing etc.

Pissed myself laughing afterwards  ;D ;D ;D
