Title: Japan proposes building lithium ion battery-power Post by easel on Oct 6th, 2015 at 7:38pm Quote:
http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2015/10/377916.html Then how would it be a Soryu class submarine? Does this mean they are not offering the Japanese submarine anymore? Is this a joke? Is lithium an appropriate battery source for major machinery? Apparently it has issues with storage. If I google lithium I get bipolar. |

All I can find is that there is one submarine they haven't built yet they are proposing to develop these batteries in.
If this goes ahead, it appears that the single submarine will be a test vehicle. The battery type will have no impact on endurance, performance, silence or detectablity. They are proposing to have the entire Australian submarine fleet experimental. Either that or they are spreading disinformation to protect top secret technology. |

That has nothing to do with the thread.
To continue the topic: Australia has a navy fleet of about 5 capable warships. China has hundreds. In a war, they would expect to lose at least a third before the second stage of the war, due to modern warfare and all that. Australia has a navy that is not war capable. And now it appears as though Australia is being touted as a source for military experimentation. It has no other purpose. |

The publicly available information states Japan will build one submarine with this battery design and the rest will have tried and tested technology. That would imply that the single submarine will be an experimental test vehicle. They are further proposing to have the entire Australian submarine fleet as a Japanese military experiment utilising untested technology, if that rationale is followed.
these are sanctions that can get worse |

So the Australian submarine will not actually be a Japanese Soryu design if Australia goes with a Japanese option.
It will also not be a French Barracuda submarine if Australia goes with the French option. It will be a Shortfin Barracuda. This is also neglecting that, regardless of what it looks like, internally it will not have the same systems as what either the French or Japanese are using themselves. Australia is getting shortchanged. |

If Australia buys 12 submarines with this technology they will be the only country in the world to do so.
And the Australian submarine fleet will be an experiment to provide data for r&d for the rest of the allied worlds submarine development projects. They are being offered AIP though. |
