I see it more as sad for Australia, we no longer vote for prime minister that gets decided by newspaper polls at the discretion of editors.

We have never voted for the PM.

Never.

Ever.

You must be thinking of another country.

In fact, the office of PM is not even mentioned in the Australian Constitution.

The wealthy political donors are the ones who decide the prime minister who then does their bidding.

Getting rid of Abbott was a good move for Australia.

Turnbull has done this country a huge favour and, for that, he deserves at least one term as PM.

Interesting comment.  I think it will now depend on how Labor manages themselves, between now and the next election.

Queensland state election shows it is quite possible to go from an overwhelmingly smug majority,  to a whining minority, at the turn of a day.  :) :) :) ;D ;D

Will Credlin stay on?

Just kidding.

Malcolm will lead us to the Promised Land. I only hope Tony takes it on the chin and doesn't go up to Turnbull and punch the wall next to him.

This is a sad day for democracy when the elected Prime Minister is thrown out of the very office he was elected to by the people (I might be wrong on that).

I well remember my voting slip having an option to vote your local member as PM.

lifes a bitch ain't it

not that I disagree with you. The people go to an election with ONE candidate as a PM, that candidate should serve his his/her term and then answer to the people at the next election. This chopping and changing so that a few MP's can save their jobs is not how government is supposed to run

Title: Re: BYE BYE ABBOTT
Post by JC Denton on Sep 14th, 2015 at 11:39pm
i don't even support tony abbott. i've always found the argument that because "the people" don't elect the pm therefore this stuff is totally okay kind of a wash. i think when people go to vote they very largely *do* have who will become prime minister in mind when they cast their vote for their local representatives (whom they probably don't even give a sh1t about, let's face it). i think at this point we should just adopt an american style system where people directly elect the prime minister. most australians at this point probably believe that we already do anyway and besides, the public hate this backroom party leader swapping. at the very least we'd have better looking prime ministers if we got rid of the party-chooses-the-pm system.

well  I'd rather Malcolm Turnbull than the nameless one as PM,  no question at all.
Whether he lasts or not is really up to the change he brings to the focus of our leaders.  If he fails ..he will not last long. But if he goes... so do the Libs.

I'd say personally he is more representative of the Oz people, in that he isn't the rabid 'whatever' .  He at leadt connects with real people. We will have to wait and see. But it can only be a plus for Australia.

Lets hope some more dead wood gets cut adrift ASAP.!.

Blot is livid:

Quote:
Yet everything about his challenge rang false, including the timing — just four days before a by-election in the Perth seat of Canning.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MALCOLM TURNBULL

And that timing says it all about Turnbull. He put his own interests above his party’s, sabotaging not just the Government with his leaks and digs, but now also sabotaging a by-election campaign by a great Liberal candidate, former SAS captain Andrew Hastie.

The latest two polls show Canning would have been won comfortably by the Liberals, despite weeks of destabilising leaks by supporters of Turnbull and his partner in assassination, Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop.

I suspect that is why Turnbull called the challenge, in case the Canning result was good and his case for immediate change wrecked.

So let’s analyse Turnbull’s laughable claims on Monday to be the man to take over the Government.

At his press conference, he claimed Abbott had “not been successful in providing the economic leadership our nation needs”.

Really? Under Abbott there was no mad Labor-style Budget blowout or pink batts disaster. His failings have not been in administering but in selling; not in doing, but in seeming.

True, the Senate, thanks to Labor and the Greens, has blocked the deeper Budget cuts we need, but would Turnbull have any more success in cutting handouts?

(no link, behind paywall)

No Budget blowout??? Debt doubled in just 2 years! If the Senate had passed the 2014 or 2015 Budget we would be in recession with over 10% unemployment—and the Budget even deeper in the red.

Worth reading, the idiot is frothing  ;D

I hope you are as happy when Labor tip Malcolm out at the next election?

Besides Turnbull being a republican what are his other redeeming assets? In the overall scope of things being a republican isn't important.

He will still be pushing the same LNP ideology as far as policy & workers wages & conditions. Still be hell bent on Union bashing etc. etc.

He'll still endorse the CHAFTA & TPP that will see foreign countries bringing in their own workforce & being exempt form australian standards for tradesmen on large projects.

Whilst it's great that Abbort has been kicked to the kerb who would trust a Merchant Banker with close association to Goldman Sachs (GFC thieves/crooks)?

He's also the proponent of copper NBN. ::)

Tell me Cods when are you going to get it through that obviously thick skull that the Labor Party was founded/formed by the Union movement so why can't they control what is in effect their Party?

Just like the Liberal Party was formed by conservative businessmen & groups. Oh & some Labor Party turncoats ... ;D

so Malcolm Turncoat is right at home in charge of the Lieberals.

Big business elects our PM not the people of this great nation.

Obviously Abbott like Rudd couldn't get the job done.

Hence another Marcus Junius Brutus in the wings waiting for the directive.

I wonder what bidding they have in store for us all through Malcolm Turnbull and his efforts to rein in the debt.

I heard someone from the business council of Australia talking on the radio saying that our living standards have dropped and are heading south for the next ten years.

His solution was to take the GST up to 15%.

I think I'm getting dumber as I get older, cause I cant see how taking the GST to 15% will improve our living standards. ::)

if they put it up 5%

that means you pay $22.50  a massive $172.50

If Australia is so important were you happy when Australia's biggest clowns Kevin Rudd and Juliar were annihilated in office  by their own team and eventually mr Abbott ?

No doubt you get excited over many things. I'm not quite sure why a divided party that carries on like the labor party and knifes someone in the back is a good thing. Its a rather stupid thing to do in front of the international community. After the labor days with kevin and julia knifing each other its a real shame a fewmorons got one majority and decided to carry on like this on an international stage. They are already questioning Australia's economic stability because of it. Not a good thing for Australia at all and certainly nothing to be laughing about.

He met a typical Labor style end.

on a handful of Liberal hopefuls with uncontrollable egos.

Like his mentor Howard,  who WAS VOTED OUT as PM..
he stuck to his guns until the end before the "Labor style pined after
hatchet" fell before the people voted him in another term.

Have NO DOUBT... He would have won the next election thats why the
leftards are feigning celebrating. Ironic, now they will be slow roasted
even better. Funny that.

Not being so bright they are celbrating their own downfall.
Oh well they have never been really on top of the intellectual food chain
in any debate now have they.

At least it didn't take the UNI students born and bred leftards long to get
with the game after the last Labor big top circus came to town starring the
back stabbing of not one but two PM's.

Priceless.

Well done Tony they still post about you and feign happiness even though

Wow, someone seems extraordinarily upset and angry today...

Just wait til longy gets back, or maria for that matter, they will leap to your support, with both the negotiating skills and the maths skills to absolutely have your back.

In the mean time, maybe ordinary needs that bex and lie down...

It's a funny ol' thing, it really doesn't matter how many PM's we have in how short a time or which of the two faux political parties hold office. Until WE the voters step up and demand political reform (as is our right in a democracy) then this is all just a chair swapping game.

Mr Abbott had his run, now it is over.

I suspect the best thing to come out of this is a few hundred thousand in savings, given that Mr Abbott won't be getting the PM pension - ironically, that's justice. The downside is, some other prat will no doubt blow more money, perhaps on another flawed and politically motivated RC. Most likely though entitlements will suck up the pension that Mr Abbott isn't getting...

It looks as though he would have got a full ex PM pension of $600,000 per annum if he had have served the full two years, but he will be getting about $300,000 instead.

You are too young to know of the deposing of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam circa 1975 courtesy of Uncle Sam and the CIA.

Politics here is unlike USA because Prime Ministers are not elected by the public and can be removed form office at the whim of their party or of powerful foreign interests.

I'm going to have to read up on that. None of what you said is surprising. I have no doubt America has always had a underhanded influence on the outcome of Australian elections as they do all over the world where corporate and militarily interests are involved.

I'm also going to have to read up on Turnball. I hope I'm not being offensive here but Abbot seemed to generate a witch-hunt atmosphere of Australian politics  - particularly as it attained to any media criticism aimed towards him. I can see why many wanted him out.

Politics here is unlike USA because Prime Ministers are not elected by the public and can be removed form office at the whim of their party or of powerful foreign interests.

The latter being like the USA? That is scary. As for Australian politics being Australian politics hasn't the Liberal Party parliamentarians always gone for the upsetting of the apple cart of leadership positions? I know Australia is in a dire straits with a deterioration of the economy more than what it is here and widespread popular opposition to the government’s agenda of austerity but is Turnball any better?

It actually exist. May have to order this. I do find Australian politics fascinating. Or I really need to get myself a hobby.

Only that he can speak and walk like a human being, Abbott was carrying too many primate genes, he was too Mr Bean-like to be taken seriously. Every intelligible word that he pushed forward was strained.......he made you want to spit the words out for him, very uncomfortable to watch.

Turnbull will carry on with the same ridiculous social policies that won't get passed by the Senate, simply because he thinks it's about personalities and not policies, he, like most politicians have no idea how the people of this country think, or what they expect of the leadership, so all in all......no difference really.

Exactly, that sort of thing and more.

The Libs are not even stagnant, they are very regressive. We'd still be using steam trains if Labor hadn't have got in all those years back.

Whatever our feelings regarding our thoughts about former PM Tony Abbott, we should make sure we have respect for the man. Not many people out there work 60+ hours per week, hold a law degree, and can deflect overt criticism for petty mistakes, and still be able to maintain their composure. Unless you can do all those four things or better, you are not to complain.

Tony Abbott had his faults and his strong points. He was defiant and wouldn't be panicked into changing positions to suit the political climate.

I have long been an admirer of Malcolm Turnbull and have at one stage corresponded with him. He is a class act and nobody's fool.

However his statement that he would govern by 'consultation' is a worry.

Nothing ever got done properly by governing by committee. And that's a fact Jack.

This is where you are dead wrong.

The loony right wing, led by Abbott is planning Turnbull's downfall right now. Turnbull is prepared, but it will be of no use. If he wins, he loses. Because what left is a fractured party. Abbott is about as popular with the electorate as Rudd was with his party. Abbott doesn't have Rudd's vote grabbing power. All the Liberals have is a leader who has a chance being stalked by an ex-leader who never had a chance. I know, I know. Abbott won the last election. Two points there:

Abbott was up against a minority government that was on the nose because all minority governments go that way. And the Rudd/Gilliard debacle. A Drover's dog and all that.

If Shorten can keep his nose relatively clean, he will win the next election because by that time the Liberal party will be in a shambles.

well  I'd rather Malcolm Turnbull than the nameless one as PM,  no question at all.

A fair question and I'll answer it.
I'd be happy to see Labor win the next election. Turnbull is merely the lesser of the two evils we had confronting us as citizens.
Altho MT may present a problem for the People (Labor)  initially, if he in fact fails to satisfy the electorate anything is possible :)

ive found its useful when dealing with really stupid posters to use this as an opportunity to attain emotional mastery.

so, even though such posters are annoying , like a mosquito buzzing around your ear, you can actually use this annoying background noise to re focus your attention.

so its good to try to have laser like focus on what you are letting your mind experience.

to focus on the pest, the background noise or the irritation on stupid posters is to lose laser like focus and to let the mind become unsettled.

in this way, the nuisance poster, the silly poster or the stupid poster can be used as a way to move your enlightenment forward.

so you have done what a good rightard will always do and that is to construct a win out of an obstacle, to see the opportunity in every situation.

when you practice personal development in this way, other humans who are not positive or adding value to your life, can still be flipped to make them valuable,

in a way, their stupidity and emotional immaturity can be used as a warning.

i would advice honky to maybe write down the name of annoying posters on a piece of paper, put it on the fridge and then reflect that

"there, but for the grace of god, go i"
then use this as motivation to read great books, do a course or two and improve himself , so as to never end up on that list  ;)

Honky is better then that, there is hope for him to remove the last shreds of dust from his eyes and see the truth.  i think there are literally lifetimes of learning ahead of some of our leftard posters before they are even ready to begin this journey

You do know that motivated people don't need your two bobs worth and unmotivated people will only suck it up for two hours at most, then they revert back to their usual ways.

You would need to be educated before motivation would have a chance of working.
Do you have a library  card.
Wisdom of the world available for free.
successful people actually wrote books and wrote down how they did it.
Could save you years in terms of personal development.

i wouldnt know, ive never read it.

But seriously, people like warren buffett have written down how they did it.
Gina rhinehardt may write a book . would be worth a read. Certainly a book by her father Lang would be worthy reading.

LOL Still bitter over Mr Abbott.

70% love Turnbull as the PM ROFL

Just DELICIOUS ...... BYE BYE LABOR (Again)

Oops I struck a nerve ;D

;D ;D ;D Polls don't lie, but they certainly bring out looney left conspiracy theories I guess along with rusted on left super intelligence. Maybe shorten should rape someone else and actually open his mouth and speak. Maybe he needs a wheelchair and a richard dawkins AI to speak for him. ;D
