How confusing it must be for children to grow up in today's world.

From the moment they are able to put their thumb and forefinger together, they are exposed to a world of tablets and computers. Children suffer an avalanche of information. Most of which they are psychologically unprepared and ill equipped to deal with.

Then we have the gender issues where in many household it is Mum and Mum or Dad and Dad.

They don't go out to play like previous generations do or at least not to anywhere near the extent we had it when after school, instead of turning on Foxtel or loading up the tablets we went to the local park and played cricket or whatever.

Many, many of today's children grow up in frightening circumstances, where huge numbers are subjected to sh.t diets with mountains of sugar then they sit on their bums with their tablets and exercising is walking to the toilet.

I feel so, so sorry for todays kids we had no computers but we had it all.  Childrens' innocence is robbed from them by the internet.

I agree. I wouldn't like to be a young person today.
(The alternative is pretty grim as well though)
But look on the bright side. They are not children in the Great Depression or young adults in either of the world wars.

red it was the same when every home got TV sets....it was a calamity.. ::) ::)... what you have to accept is the next generation doesnt know any different...

lets hope manufacturers of food get more responsible...it is very very hard to know exactly what is in food...but imagine the size of the labels to come.. ::)

bogy I sat on the edge of the road playing marbles in the gutter...as a matter of fact all the kids in my street did....each generation faces huge changes... I survived and so will they..

.its what we plant in their brains that matters...

.toys come and go.. I dont play marbles anymore... ::) ::)

that's the parents fault, although to be fair, in times gone past, both parents weren't forced to go to work to pay the mortgage.

I throw my kids outside all the time. I found my 3 yr old had climbed on top of the fence (3 m drop on the other side) and applauded him when many parents would have scolded him. Why, because I think that it's important they push the boundaries when they play, if he fell and broke his arm, he'd know he went to far, if he doesn't at some point fall, he'll never know just how far to go. To many parent wrap their kids in cotton wool. i saw a doco once (The Politically Incorrect Parenting Guide ) where he claimed over 50% of kids aren't even allowed in their own backyards unsupervised ... I find that ridiculous. (great doco by the way, highly highly recommended to anyone with kids)

Tablets and computers have their place too, although my oldest is 6 and has neither. I figure he has plenty of time. I was shocked last week when he came home and told me I need to buy an app .... damn, the boy is growing fast.

My Mum reckons the kids have got it tough now too, this from a person that Adolph Hitler tried to blow up a few times when she was a kid  ;D

Hi cods, I remember the day we got a t.v. in our flat. We didn't have money, it was a really nice flat above a shopping centre but it was housing commission. My mum and dad had reversals of fortune towards the latter part of their lives so I got to experience both sides of the spoon.

However I badgered my poor ever suffering mum and finally she relented and bought a t.v. on the never, never plan.

But I was about 13 at the time and it didn't change my life. I still went down to the park with the old cricket bat most days. It didn't really change my m.o. much at all.

The thing I notice most about these days are the huge numbers of obese kids and their obese parents.

Funnily enough  in the Mountains where I live, obesity is low but if I got down to Penrith Plaza about 30 clicks down the hill the landscape changes.  It is the land of the fatties many of them humungous. They seem blissfully unaware that they or their kids have a problems as they waddle their way through the Plaza.

I'm not saying the internet is bad, after all I can sit here and post this. All I am saying is that it comes with many dangers particularly for the young. I watched a program the other night where this guy did an experiment and groomed some teenagers for dangerous liaisons. Then in concert with the parents he sprung them meeting up with someone they didn't know from adam including getting in their vehicles.

Scary bloody stuff.
