Household gas prices will soon surge by 30 per cent, according to new research by ANZ, with the price rise also having the potential to send parts of Australia's already struggling industrial sector out of business.

We need a gas reservation policy here. A lower price for domestically consumed gas and a higher price for exported gas. We wouldn't be the first in the world to do it. Why should it be extracted here and sold at a global price instead of getting our own gas cheaper?

a boom? I believe the were reporting about the likely price hikes now that we're selling all our resources overseas.

Whilst it may be boom for the few thousand shareholders, it is all gloom for the other 23 million Aussies likely to be affected.

Another of the report's authors, ANZ's co-head of Australian economics, Felicity Emmett, said the surge in LNG exports will be a net benefit for the country despite the higher domestic prices.

"There will be the benefits to growth and the benefits to the trade balance and also higher government revenues both at the Commonwealth level and the state level," she said.

ANZ expects LNG to overtake iron ore as the key driver of Australian exports by next year, also reversing the current trade deficit.

Last month at a high-level industry course on Coal Seam Gas we were asked (by a local council) how to change people's silly opinions about CSG.  My comment was to just let them run out of gas or price it so high they cannot use it.

Maybe I was listened to!!!

This is how residents of oil-exporting countries can pay just a few cents a litre for petrol, while commanding market prices for exports. Why can't we do this?

In 10 years, CSG will be totally unnecessary. By then, we will be able to manufacture methane industrially using sunshine, air and water. We can already do this with diesel, and methane is a far simpler molecule.

WA reserves 15% of its gas for domestic use with little to no damage to investment nor has it created sovereign risk, with $88 billion invested in WA gas production since reservation was introduced in 2006....How will this policy help our manufactures remain competitive???

Why? Well the govt makes money via royalties etc, Australians pay more for a product. It's like a tax on Australians but done through trade rather than govt and you cannot "blame" the govt. A 30% rise in the price is also a 30% rise in GST revenues on it. Win - win, for govt.

'about to' is not 'is'. Plus a jetpack that cannot be afforded or probably be licensed to use is hardly the same as what the space age promised.
