As most of you here know, I'm not into animals. I'm more into fruit n veg gardening and human babies.

Yet, this news article brought tears to my eyes.

Bloody hell, I'm still tearing.

When a pair of four-legged friends were hours away from being euthanised, it took just one photo to save them.

Kala and Keira were awaiting adoption by a volunteer foster carer at the Angels Among Us Pet Rescue centre in the US state of Georgia.

But on the day they were scheduled to be put to sleep, staff at the centre made a last minute plea to Facebook, uploading a photo of the pair in an embrace that is (almost) too adorable to believe.

Two hours and six minutes later the furry friends were buckled up and on their way to a new home, all thanks to their now-viral heartwarming image.

Being a rescuer (with my partner) of four dogs (one only recently) I love these kinds of happy endings

Is it possible to sponsor a dog (in the same way you can sponsor a child)?

I hope you can because I'd like to do something like that.

It might be something you could arrange with a local dog shelter - maybe. Most rescue places recoup expenses when they re - home dogs though - there is a price to rescue - generally around the $400. That is for a dog that is de sexed, up to date with immunization and healthy (age appropriately). So I am not sure how sponsoring would work, given that.

Nice thought though.

It looks ok and I should imagine there would be tons of working dogs up for adoption.

Check out PAWS rescue - there might be one in your area.

Also, check with your local council or dog shelter (if it is independent from council), plus RSPCA (not that I like them overly) have some shop fronts opening up in lots of places - they do some dog re homing (at least where I live).

It seems to me (and I may be wrong) but if you are keen to sponsor it would be nice to do it locally. One day you may get the urge to see the dog after all (I read you're not keen on dogs that's all).

I used to, too. Their attitude was abrasive to me. I've seen what they do to our native fauna, been out rabbiting and shot them at any opportunity. In my old age and dementia, I see them as another animal that can be cute and worth a pat if they are someones pet, but... I'd never have one, I couldn't live with Herb.

Yeah, the kids are all excited too.

I so wish I was an animal person...but I'm just not. Plus, animals aggravate my asthma etc.

That's ok, I'm into human babies, serious organic fruit n veg growing etc...so it's all good.

The impt thing I learned out of all this?

Don't think that the only way you can help out is by taking an unwanted puppy home. There's heaps of other options.

Our 2 boys are rescue dogs, Jack Russells. Their owner passed away and they weren't far off being PTS. I'd post a photo but apparently I can't until I have babbled a little more :)
