The planet is being terraformed to the liking of big MNCs.

Anything that is not to their liking or doesn't meet their definitions of cost-efficient is removed and exterminated from the planet.

The video about fungi is very interesting from many aspects, particularly it's beneficial health effect on bees. The ecologically beneficial effect of fungi has never ever been considered by governments and leaders because they are too busy steering the planet to human race extinction.

it just goes to show that these people couldn't give a flying bugger if the world comes to an end tomorrow due to deforestation.. a raping of our earth...

all the Greens and Labor want to do is to get hold of our tax money to piss away on worthless projects and so that they can go on an orgy of shoving their undersized penises into another mans bum...

Reforesting ... what he plants trees during his sandpit break.

Abbott has just included natural forest burning in the RET.
Due to price pressures, this will mean deforesting old growth forests.

And abbott is your pin up boy.

Abbott government to cut 74,000 ha of forest from World Heritage zone
January 31, 2014

The federal government will ask UNESCO's World Heritage Committee to strip the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area of 74,000 hectares of highly contentious forest.
The area, believed to be up to 117 parcels, was part of a 170,000 hectare extension to the World Heritage Area by the committee last June.
It was nominated through an exhaustively argued Tasmanian forest peace deal.
The first large-scale wind-back of World Heritage ever sought by an Australian government, it fulfils an election promise by Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
It is the latest in a series of contentious federal environmental moves, from carbon tax repeal to a go-ahead for Great Barrier Reef Marine Park dredging.
The Tasmanian Senator Richard Colbeck, Parliamentary Secretary to the Agriculture Minister, delivered the news by statement on Friday.
Senator Colbeck said it would deliver additional economic and social outcomes, while maintaining the values of the wilderness.
"This minor boundary modification will restore value to the original Wilderness World Heritage Area listing by removing areas that have been impacted by forestry operations and devalue the existing Outstanding Universal Value," he said.
"In total we are seeking the removal of about 74,000 hectares or just 4.7 per cent of the entire property."
He said high value tall forests and giant trees in the Weld-Snowy Range, Huon-Picton, the Great Western Tiers and the Styx-Tyenna regions would be retained.
It was not immediately clear whether the most bitterly fought forests in the Florentine, Butler's Gorge and upper Styx and upper Weld would be re-opened to logging.
"The minor boundary modification includes removal of a number of areas containing pine and exotic eucalypt plantations as well as areas that have previously have been impacted by forestry operations and other infrastructure," Senator Colbeck said.
The Tasmanian Greens leader, Nick McKim, said the decision would plunge the state back into conflict by seeking to open up World Heritage areas for logging.
The federal government's proposed change has to be lodged with the World Heritage Committee by February 1 in order to go forward at its next meeting in June, in Doha, Qatar.
Until the proposed boundary modification is agreed to by the World Heritage Committee the current boundary for the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Areas remains in place and continues to be protected under national environment law and is subject to its current legal protection and management practices.

No more national parks as Tony Abbott pledges to support loggers as the 'ultimate conservationists'
Date
March 5, 2014

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said he will not support the creation of any more national parks in a speech lauding timber workers as "the ultimate conservationists".
Mr Abbott also told a timber industry dinner on Tuesday night that he would create a new Forestry Advisory Council to support the industry.

Tony Abbott says too much Tasmanian forest 'locked up', forms new council to support timber industry
Updated 5 Mar 2014, 7:30pm

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has declared that too many of Australia's forests are "locked up" and vowed to set up a new advisory council to support the timber industry.

Speaking at a timber industry dinner in Canberra last night, Mr Abbott also recommitted to repealing part of Tasmania's Wilderness World Heritage Area made under the forest peace deal.

His comments have prompted anger from conservationists and the Greens, who have labelled him the "dig it up, cut it down Prime Minister".

Under the Tasmanian peace deal, 170,000 hectares of forest was added to the World Heritage area.

Deforestation is  a contributor to global warming. Not only do we have 7 billion people pumping CO2 into the atmosphere but now there are fewer forests to absorb that CO2. Its no wonder that 2015 is going to once again break the record for the hottest year.

Now why would the Village Idiot Mk II say that?  There's plenty of forest around that is secondary and tertiary etc growth and plenty of plantation... and until The Great Sellout of industry here and the importation of finished timber products from South America and Kiwiland, there were viable timber industries here.

Now they tear down hardwood and ship it on trucks to a mushing mill to create anew into woodchip...  the house I'm building has some of the last remaining ironbark - you can't get it now without selling your grandmother's jewels - and I was appalled to be told those lovely hardwood logs were not destined for milling but for wood-chipping and mass export to Japan, so we could buy back shoddy stuff that has no water resistance and are told by Cam The Builder that this is the good oil to build stuff with.

All those hours and weeks planing, sanding and oiling ironbark.... damn I knew this was a bad neighbourhood when I left my gramma outside a shop in her electric shopper, and came back to find her burnt out and on blocks with the wheels stolen..... musta been the bank sending me a message about paying the mortgage...

Oh - sorry - that was Bankstown some years ago....

Eastern Australia is one of the world’s 11 deforestation hotspots that together will account for 80% of global forest loss by 2030, a new report has warned.

Between 3m hectares and 6m hectares of rainforest and temperate forest, mainly stretching across New South Wales and Queensland, could be lost between 2010 and 2030 on current trends, according to the World Wildlife Fund’s Living Forests report.

This deforestation is part of a wider loss that could reach 170m hectares of forest worldwide by 2030 in 11 key areas, including the Amazon, Borneo, Sumatra, the Congo Basin and East Africa.

Ten of the 11 areas are found in the tropics and contain some of the greatest biodiversity in the world, including animals such as tigers, orangutans and gorillas, as well as Indigenous communities.

About 70% of the eastern forests of Australia have already been cleared or disturbed, with just 18% of the area under any sort of protection, the WWF report states. Australia’s forestry loss has primarily been caused by land clearing for livestock, with unsustainable logging and mining also blamed for tree felling.

WWF said the watering down of environmental protections by the previous LNP government in Queensland led to a sharp rise in land clearing, with 275,000ha torn down in the past financial year – a tripling of vegetation loss rates since 2010.

While the new Labor state government has promised to reverse this loss, the New South Wales government is set to amend land-clearing protections, despite pledging $100m to protect the state’s threatened plants and animals.

“We are deeply concerned about NSW,” said Dermot O’Gorman, chief executive of WWF Australia. “These are laws that have been shown to have been effective in saving hundreds of thousands of animals, so it’s important that biodiversity continues to be protected.

When I was in Tasmania last I had a great idea for a business where tourists could pick out a 1000 year old tree in an old growth forest and I would chop it down, whittle it down into a toothpick and put it into a little glass case as a souvenir for them to take home as a memento of Tassie, just been waiting for the Liberal party to get in so that I can get the necessary approvals.

I think you missed my point a bit...

but yes...

on one hand Abbott is doing some reforestation.. but because of the lack of jobs down in Tasmania they have opened up new land for deforestation...

I do not agree with this as I've said in the Tasmanian Job thread...

its short term gain for long term pain...

Tasmania would be far better off Keeping 100% of ancient forests that they have now and even increasing the size of them .... it would produce more jobs that "wood chipping"  ::)

I love Tasmania...

the only reason I (and 10s of thousands of others) go down to Tassie is for ecotourism... if they stuff that up im done... I wont be back...

not long ago Tasmania had its worst bush fires... all since logging was thrown out of the door...they dont realise that loggers respect the forests they need for business.. they plant more  trees than they log.. they also clear as they do not want their forests burnt to the ground....

It seems kind of funny to be (in a ludicrous sort of way) that the whole climate change debate has (in my opinion) been deliberately built up and beaten up specifically in order to take our eye off the ball...

Deforestation is most certainly a big part of the problems future generations will face.

Our bloody minded and belligerent attachment to pumping gross levels of pollution into the very environment that humanity relies on TOTALLY are also problematic. Yet, whilst "experts" blather on back and forth trying to win the political debate - our industrious practices are systematically destroying our environment. Oh but hang on, I just have to correct someone about a comment on climate.... Clearly by correcting what others say we can fix the environment.

Well, news flash, we are not smart enough or responsible enough to save the planet and, guess what? The planet does not need us to save it - however, it would seem that we do need to have some consideration to saving ourselves. At least, that is, if we think our species is worth it. Frankly, given our behaviour surrounding the environment, resources and towards other species and our own species would seem to hint that doing nothing is our best option. Sure our species will go under because of that, but, how much better will that be for everything left behind? The correct answer (in case you're struggling here is HEAPS!).

Obviously, we should avoid deforestation - will we? Clearly not.

Obviously, we should avoid poisoning our atmosphere - will we? Demonstrably not.

Obviously, we should be protecting our water sources - are we? Clearly not.

Obviously, we should be protecting our oceans, seas, lakes etc - are we? Obviously not.

Yet, we have endless debates about the climate...

Clearly climate is a part of the issue with regard to human survival. Whilst the idiot brigade (from both sides) maintain the rage about the minutiae - the forests, waterways and the atmosphere are being systematically damaged. At some point this will inevitably become beyond repair. It's ok though, a few very very self important people will have made heaps of money from their trails of destruction.
