The Independent Commission Against Corruption has referred Deputy Crown Prosecutor Margaret Cunneen to the Director of Public Prosecutions for possible charges of perverting the course of justice and giving false evidence to the Commission.    The ICAC announced its move after parliament passed legislation validating its actions following a High Court decision which found against it and in favour of Ms Cunneen. The ICAC began an investigation into allegations that Ms Cunneen advised her son Stephen Wylie’s girlfriend Sophia Tilley to fake chest pains to avoid a breath test after a car accident. But Ms Cunneen took the ICAC to the High Court, which ruled that it had misinterpreted its own Act and it had no power to investigate the allegation because no public official had been corrupted. NSW parliament then passed legislation validating its past actions, and included a clause which allowed it to refer investigations done in the past to other agencies. In a statement, the ICAC said it had “furnished that evidence to the DPP for consideration of whether charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice and giving false evidence to the Commission are available against Ms Cunneen, Stephen Wylie and Sophia Tilley.” It said: “Any attempt to pervert the course of justice by senior counsel, whether in the course of that person’s duties or otherwise, strikes at the heart of the administration of justice.” “The decision to refer the evidence is being taken by the Commission after an assessment of the reliability of the material which is to hand. The ICAC suggested that the DPP could appoint someone from outside NSW to undertake to consider whether Ms Cunneen should face charges. It has been reported that the basis of ICAC’s investigation was intercepted phone calls by a multi-agency taskforce investigating organised crime. Ms Cunneen was not the subject of that taskforce. ICAC said: “It is also in the interests of those persons and the administration of justice in NSW that the evidence obtained by the Commission is referred for appropriate action to the DPP. “The Commission’s referral to the DPP also allows for the appointment of an appropriately qualified independent person from outside NSW to undertake that task. “In addition to considering criminal offences, it may be necessary for the DPP to consider whether disciplinary proceedings should be taken against Ms Cunneen. “Accordingly, the DPP is the most appropriate agency for the referral of the material.” The DPP is the employer of Ms Cunneen.

Outspoken councillor Nicole Johnston has been ejected from the Brisbane City Hall chambers for what is believed to be the 40th time in her career. The independent Tennyson councillor was suspended on Tuesday night during a heated debate over a planning issue. Acting Chairman Angela Owen-Taylor ordered Cr Johnston out of the chamber for calling veteran LNP councillor Geraldine Knapp "a liar". She then turned on Cr Owen-Taylor and began shouting. "You let her abuse me. You let her lie in this place and it is outrageous," Cr Johnston yelled. Cr Johnston - a one-time LNP member who fell out with the party - had earlier received a formal warning for interjecting and was cautioned on several occasions. It comes weeks after Cr Johnston spent a number of hours in the Brisbane Watch House for allegedly being drunk in a public place, according to police. She later described the incident as a "misunderstanding" and was released after paying a nominal bail fee. "I believe this matter stemmed from a misunderstanding with a policeman when I could not catch a taxi and wanted to walk home from the City," she said in a statement issued at the time.. "There were no allegations presented to the Court, I was not required to attend court and the matter is not being pursued by the Queensland Police and, as such, has been finalised without a finding of guilt." Police have previously been called to council meetings when Cr Johnston refused to comply with orders to leave. In 2014, the LNP filed court papers which said she had been suspended from council meetings 34 times. Since then, a further six suspensions have occurred.

Perhaps she was merely saying what I would in her position.... how does that create of her an 'arrogant woman'?

There is a world of difference between a woman expressing a commonly held view and an 'arrogant' woman.....

The rule of thumb is if you would not consider a man 'arrogant' in that situation - a woman is not arrogant as well... and your position borders on misogyny - a term I laugh at in most situations....

Any enemy of City Hall is a friend.....

In the Grappler Party - all candidates are selected on merit by their electorate - while I may disagree with them on specific issues - their right to hold those views is held supreme.... and gender has nothing to do with it.....

I oppose feminism with might and main, the same as I oppose ISIS - I do not attack any person on the basis of gender, race or creed.....
