Sure - the full nutjob experience is impressive.  But seriously - about 30 second is plenty.

a 21 minute video? sorry, a little better but not much

I was after a brief run down so that I can make a decision of whether or not the video is worth taking the 21 minutes to watch ...I've never heard of agenda 21. Is it a movie? a new ice cream flavour? a shop? a conspiracy theory?

Agenda 21 is a non-binding, voluntarily implemented action plan of the United Nations with regard to sustainable development.[1] It is a product of the Earth Summit (UN Conference on Environment and Development) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992. It is an action agenda for the UN, other multilateral organizations, and individual governments around the world that can be executed at local, national, and global levels. The "21" in Agenda 21 refers to the 21st Century. It has been affirmed and modified at subsequent UN conferences.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agenda_21

For some reason it appears to be a favourite boogeyman for loony conspiracy theorists.

I'll leave it at that.
This troll has been fed far too much already.

'Agenda 21
-
Chapter 1
PREAMBLE
1.1. Humanity stands at a defining moment in history. We are confronted with a perpetuation of disparities between and within nations, a worsening of poverty, hunger, ill health and illiteracy, and the continuing deterioration of the ecosystems on which we depend for our well-being. However, integration of environment and development voncerns and greater attention to them will lead to the
fulfilment of basic needs, improved living standards for all, better protected and managed ecosystems and a safer, more prosperous future. No nation can achieve this on its own; but together we can -  in a global partnership for sustainable development.

1.2. This global partnership must build on the premises of General Assembly resolution 44/228 of 22 December 1989, which was adopted when the nations of the world called for the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, and on the acceptance of the need to take a balanced and integrated approach to environment and development questions.

1.3. Agenda 21 addresses the pressing problems of today and also aims at preparing the world for the challenges of the next century. It reflects a global consensus and political commitment at the highest level on development and environment cooperation. Its successful implementation is first and foremost the responsibility of Governments. National strategies, plans, policies and processes are crucial in achieving this. International cooperation should support and supplement such national efforts. In this context, the United Nations system has a key role to play. Other international, regional and subregional organizations are also called upon to contribute to this effort. The broadest public participation and the active involvement of the non-governmental organizations and other groups should also be encouraged.

1.4. The developmental and environmental objectives of Agenda 21 will require a substantial flow of new and additional financial resources to developing countries, in order to cover the incremental costs for the actions they have to undertake to deal with global environmental problems and to accelerate sustainable development. Financial resources are also required for strengthening the capacity of international institutions for the implementation of Agenda 21. An indicative order-of-magnitude assessment of costs is included in each of the programme areas. This assessment will need to be examined and refined by the relevant implementing agencies and organizations.'

You're kidding right...!!!...you actually agree with this sh!t..??

What about the ideology of the founders...????

Quote:
“Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsiblity to bring that about?” – Maurice Strong, founder of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP)

“Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class – involving high meat intake, use of fossil fuels, appliances, air-conditioning, and suburban housing – are not sustainable.” – Maurice Strong, Rio Earth Summit

“It is the responsibility of each human being today to choose between the force of darkness and the force of light. We must therefore transform our attitudes, and adopt a renewed respect for the superior laws of Divine Nature.“ – Maurice Strong, first Secretary General of UNEP

Quote:
“Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsiblity to bring that about?”
– Maurice Strong, founder of the UN Environment Programme
Opening speech, Rio Earth Summit. 1992

From my research the above quote appears to be bogus.

I found imbedded video footage of the opening speech here http://www.americanalertnews.com/mauricestrongspeaks1992.htm

American Alert appears to be a site dedicated to fighting Agenda 21 - However despite their own agenda and the video footage imbedded there, there is no mention of the supposed quote.

Here is the direct link to the full set of the "Earth Summit Opening Plenary" videos hosted by C-SPAN http://www.c-span.org/search/?searchtype=All&query=Earth+Summit+Opening+Plenary

There are a few seconds of Maurice Strong speaking at the very end of video part 1.
On video part 2 his opening remarks go for some 35 minutes or so. I have just finished listening to this and there is no above mentioned quote.

A transcript of the opening statement is available here  http://www.mauricestrong.net/index.php/opening-statement6

Also - an interesting run down of the possible origins of the supposed quote may be found at https://denierlist.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/myths-tales-lies-quotes/

And finally - Wiki quote gives us this :

Quote:
What if a small group of world leaders were to conclude that the principal risk to the Earth comes from the actions of the rich countries? And if the world is to survive, those rich countries would have to sign an agreement reducing their impact on the environment. Will they do it? The group's conclusion is 'no'. The rich countries won't do it. They won't change. So, in order to save the planet, the group decides: Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsibility to bring that about?

Maurice Strong, Interview 1992, concerning the plot of a book he would like to write[1]

1 ↑ Gibson, Donald. Environmentalism: ideology and power. pg. 95

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Maurice_Strong#cite_note-1

So after all that, it seems (at best) the mostly misattributed quote may be merely a plot for a fictional book Maurice Strong had thought about writing. Although I can't confirm this as I don't have access to Donald Gibson's book.

The UN is a political unit. Agenda 21 is a UN Policy. In politics numbers rule. At the moment the numbers are against Agenda 21.

I find it amazing that people use Wiki as a primary source and base their beliefs upon it.

Christiana Figueres- '"This is  probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model, for the first time in human history", Ms Figueres stated at a press conference in Brussels.

"This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the industrial revolution.'

http://www.unric.org/en/latest-un-buzz/29623-figueres-first-time-the-world-economy-is-transformed-intentionally

So what is the economic model that has prevailed for the last 150 years? Capitalism, Communism or something else?

Does that sound like "voluntarism"?

It doesn't matter if Agenda 21 is overt or covert, if people either don't know or know and don't care about it.
